  1. And who is the 4 in the case? Wolverine or Spidey? Did that get mentioned earlier? I try not to bug the home office too much, and it's always safer to see what actually made it to stores.

I believe it was Wolvie, but don't take my word for it!

  2. I picked up the Skrull yesterday at my LCS, but they were already out of the Storm set. The Skrull is nice, so nice that I might pick up the other set they had. I was a bit surprised Storm was sold out though, and more than a bit disappointed. Looks like a very nice 'mate.

Well, people have been asking for that Storm. And she IS an Avenger now. And she DOES come with Jill Valentine, the star of a mega-popular video game. And she might be the two-per-case in the assortment. (Confirmation, anyone?) So I'm not TOO surprised. But I hope you find one!

Yes, Storm is the short pack. Unpacked it myself! At first I figured Skrully was going to be the short, but now after seeing how amazing Storm looks, it makes sense why her and Jilly are the lesser.

  3. Nicholas Joseph Fury is a World War Two veteran. His razor touches his face and only his face, and even then only occassionaly. He is a man, danmit, and real men are kinda furry, and real women like it. Manscaping does not exist in his world,

You know, I just did a google search for Nick Fury Shirtless to find a good comic panel example to back up this statement. However, all that showed up was fairly hardcore gay pornography......I don't know what to think, but I don't like it.

  4. I'm totally pumped to get this wave tomorrow. While waiting to start my job, I'm "working" for my LCS part time and getting paid in store credit. Since it's not really work, it's like I'm getting them for free! Yay!

I used to do that too, once upon a time. This was a record store that also had a comics section, and I basically worked on Wednesday, unloaded the new comics, and handled the monthly orders in exchange for comics, books, and the occasional cd. Good times.

This is proving to be extremely helpful in my situation. I am building up more credit than I can spend. Also, since I got "access" to the back I found a huuuuuge hold box for a customer that obviously hasn't picked up his mates for over 2 years. Found so many goodies in that box, but apparently they basically have infinite hold times. So, I asked if they could give the dude a call to see if he plans on getting any of them. If not, then I just hit a gold mine.

  5. The X-Men confronted him at his complex on Wundagore Mountain over his apparent role in an inter-dimensional invasion of Earth.[2] After following a trail of mysteriously genetically-created mutants and death, the X-Men finally track Forge down, who revealed his true madness. He endeavored to save the world from the Annexation, an invasion from a parallel world on the other side of the Ghost Box, the trans-dimensional teleporter. He planned this by sending the X-Men to the parallel universe that was home to the Ghost Boxes to destroy them before the Annexation could begin. The X-Men tried to talk Forge down but he rebuked them and furthered his madness by forcibly opening the Ghost Box, risking all life on Earth. Thanks to the assistance of Abigail Brand and Beast, a world-destroying laser was shot into the opening of the Ghost Box and before everything could be destroyed, Ororo offered Forge a chance to come back with them. Forge only screamed of his rejection by Ororo and she let him go. Forge remained in his complex as it was destroyed, and seemingly perished in the ensuing laser blast.

Didn't actually 'see' him die. He is not dead. Just on vacation.

  6. I'm sorry, fail topic is fail. After reading through the re-do topic I was basically trying to put together a polled version of said thread but I think I caused a bit of confusion by calling it best of. Was just trying to create a mock most wanted re-do wave. Sorry.

  7. Oh no worries, I'm just trying my best to not sound like an idiot in trying to explain something....having that problem a lot lately. Anyway, based off of what we saw in the last Best Of wave (i.e. minor tweaks and additions) let's base off of that mindset. I mean in the event if any of the earlier pieces were to be re-released, they would definitely be altered due to the new styling of the mates. So let's call this a "What the MMMV wants that technically already exist's Wave". So yeah, vote for the wave that has the mate you would most like to see redone, or make "another appearance" and then we'll go from there.

  8. Thank you TM2, forgot to take off the Spiderman/X-men ones. Made this late.

@DJ-This is really just for fun, but thought it would be interesting to see what would be a "Best Of" wave based off of the MMMV's popular vote. And you never know, maybe DST will get a wild hair and think they should make a fan's choice wave based off it's most popular forum.

  9. So, I would like to put together some data in the event that DST ever releases another "Best Of" wave based off of fan's choice, they will be able to cross reference what we here think would make the best Best Of wave. Due to the limited number of poll space, the way I will do this is list every Marvel Wave/4 Pack/Exclusive. So, simply vote on a wave(set) based off of your favorite mates within the wave. From there I will take the Top 8 choices and re list the vote for each mate within the top 8 choices. Finally, I will list the mates from within the votes and see what we think deserves to be "re"released.

Please use this link: http://www.minimatedatabase.com/line.php?i=6&n=Marvel+Minimates If you need help finding the mate you wish to vote for.

I will switch to the next voting phase on March 15th.

Also, if I missed anything please feel free to let me know.

Oh, and movie mates were not listed for a reason.

  10. But that's what the '90s were, hellpop. Surely you remember. We all wore big shoulderpads and neckerchiefs.

Maybe you northerners. Me, as long as I've got me some leg belts, about 30 pouches on my regular belt, and a leather jacket to go over my spandex leotards, I'm good.

Don't forget face spandex with wavey hair out the top......I hate Jim Lee...

  11. Scrap.

Why'd those have to look that good? With 43 and MvC2 hitting now, I really can't afford any of these... I certainly shouldn't buy the whole wave, but as the song says "kinda I want to".

And the slaggin' Cap even looks like a good color match to the Iceberg Cap, and his pulled down mask accessory. (did we ever actually come to a consensus on what to call those?)

Blast it, these need to suck more, like a lot. If I do this it will so flush all the brownie points I scored at Valentines last week.

Well as long as you know it's not the right thing, and you know it's not a good thing....But these mates are killer. Proper tweaks to fix some annoyances as well as a good way to get your buddies collecting. Going to grab the Iron Man/Thing next week.

  12. Age of X? Curse of the Mutants? Those are for us? No thanks. And Rictor was made years ago by Toybiz. I'm glad for what we are getting, don't get me wrong, but some people have been asking for Kang for six years. In that time, we've gotten about half a dozen or more versions of the same characters. Wave 44 is the personification of this. It's gotten to the point where two new characters a wave is good, and I'm sorry, but that's never going to be good enough this deep in. I love 'mates and I'll always collect them, but I don't enjoy the feeling of being "unimportant" in comparison to the people who might buy a couple two packs or a box set then move on from 'mates.

I never said long-term collectors were unimportant. I said that getting new customers was important, whether they're casual buyers, budding long-term collectors or, I don't know, returning long-term collectors who sold off their collections and regretted it. (Not taking an official line, just speaking as a long-term fan and someone who covered failing and successful toy lines for 8 years.) Long-term collectors stop collecting all the time -- not due to retread fatigue, but due to the myriad of reasons that collectors stop collecting -- and we have to encourage new collectors to join, or the numbers would dwindle to the point that the line becomes infeasible. Obviously, we want long-term collectors to keep collecting, but nine years does not make Marvel Minimates an unstoppable juggernaut. I wish it did. We constantly struggle for recognition and validation.

I think we make a LOT of new characters, at least as many as Marvel Universe does on a regular basis. This wave is 50% new, and three of the other four are generally anticipated re-dos. When was the last time Marvel Universe put out a wave that was all new? I'm thinking Wave 1. Heck, Marvel Legends wasn't all-new following wave 4 or 5, with the exception of Wave 13, which sounded good on paper but lingered at retail.

Another thing to remember is that not all long-term collectors are completists, and if every wave was 100% new, it might actually be a financial hardship for some to keep up with. leading to even more attrition. Just my thoughts on line planning. Which I do not do.

Also, I do not think we have a Spider-Woman planned all year.

I just want to add, I started collecting mates due to the diversity in the characters as well as the price for two figures with ridiculous amount of accessories. I will ask for new mates, but I will NOT complain for the mates we are getting. Sorry to get involved. Zach, keep them coming.

  13. I'm going to disagree with you a litle bit, HP. I think at this point, Wolverine and Cap are A-listers. This has not as much to do with the popularity of their books, (How many times has Superman's titles been near the bottom of sales numbers in recent decades kept alive more by profeesional pride than anything else?), but as to how near universibly recognised they are by non-comics fans. Iron-Man is on the verge of making that jump; that first movie was that strong. But only time will tell if he can stay there and really make the leap to the A-List permenetly

Comics sales IMO can no longer be used as a mark of A or B listers I'm afraid. Witht the death of the feeder markets, I'm afraid we may see the end of monthly books as we know and love them in our lifetime. (If you care to debate that statement, fine, but we better take it to a new thread)

And Zach is right... even LCS waves are gonna need an A-lister or two as an anchor. I can live with that. I think most of us can. We would like to see a higher new to redo ratio than say Wave 44 as a general rule. And yes, you at DST should be justly proud of including Stilt Man. Don't rest on your laurels, continue to dig deep into the wonderful world of Marvel's third, fourth, and fifth stringers. I am literally begging you too.

As far as a fan appreciation wave... I get the Squirrel Girl love, I do. But personally I think if it comes down to it there are other characters we have collectively waited longer for >cough<Toad>cough< that deserve the slot over her. And theoretically we'll be scratching one name off that list before the year's done.

    Here Here.

  14. Of that entire list, Lundgren is the coolest I've met. Very nice guy, second would be Rourke. Schwarzenegger is hit or miss but he's the one I've interacted with the most. Roberts is, moody, to say the least. Willis is the biggest jerk in Hollywood. I've never heard a good story about him, and every encounter I've had with him I have stories that I can't share in public. I have a close friend that used to work *for* him, don't ask what capacity. Stallone's nice, as is Crews. Last time I saw Statham was at a Coffee Bean on Sunset, he was nice to me but again I hear he usually isn't. Li doesn't talk much from what I've seen. I haven't yet met the others, don't much care to either.

Sorry, I'm sure you guys don't care. I just think this will be the line that breaks my minimate completism. I hate Bruce Willis with a passion! If I did wind up with his minimate, it'd probably get boxed away for parts one day!

Now, Monkeycrumb, are you working with these guys? Or just meeting them around town? Legitimately curious.

Meeting at parties and events. Statham is the only one I've ran into only randomly, and Schwarzenegger's been to my place of employment a few times, and I've met him at events. Although the last time I saw Arnold was completely random when I was at the Grove. One time at my work he signed the reverse of my coworker's badges, all of which smeared off by the next day  . I've probably met about 90% of anyone currently working in TV / Movies.

Man, and I thought I was cool for being in the 501st and hanging out with Star Wars celebs all the time. Sounds like a decent job you have there sir!

  15. Zach, are you able to share the official names for the 'mates for this wave yet, assuming 'Drunken Hobo Thor' isn't the solicitation name?

I did not get creative with this wave, sorry. Aside from Ant-Man II, they all get their standard codenames. I'll see if it's too late, but I'm pretty sure it is. I'll try to be more creative with Wave 47/14.

I'm actually fairly pumped for this wave.
