    Canopus the Imitator

Quote: "all the world's a stage, even a battlefield!"

    Function: Espionage/Deception (Cutup)

It's not everyday you meet a famous actor. Though don't let Canopus fool you, he was never that famous. However, he did enjoy his time in the spotlight, from starring roles to bit parts. He was part of a traveling actors trope, before he was convinced to join the fight. Realizing his skills could be put to use in combat. While not a very skilled fighter, Canopus used his abilities to mimic voices and noises.

It's not just a unique tongue that he possess, but also very keen ears. Hearing a voice only once, only a little bit would be enough for him to be able to do a spot on impersonation. This unique talent of his has been very valuable to his allies. Allowing them to get information, fool enemies and also for a laugh. In between the tension of battle, Canopus could make almost any of his comrades laugh. Except for a few of the more gruff and serious ones. Though this became a goal of his. Canopus isn't as interested in vanquishing his enemy, as he is in making stiff soldiers spill a smirk.

While he's not good with weapons, preferring something that keeps him far away, Canopus will join in and fight. In direct combat his voice doesn't do him much good. Actually it almost makes him a target, as he always tends to mock his enemies. When it comes to fight or flight, the latter is almost always the choice. Flying away, and trying to resist cracking one more joke is something Canopus has learned to do.

Still, no one really wants to hurt Canopus, everyone, both sides really, seem to enjoy him. In the heart of this war, he still manages to smile and just be goofy. Most seem to know, that a mime is a terrible thing to waste. Many seem to let him get away, as his bright colors make him easy to spot. Which is exactly what Canopus wants. Not to trick anyone, like you might think. Canopus just wishes everyone could get along, and just have a good chuckle with him.

  2. I feel I'm in the same camp as everyone else here, I love these minifigures, but have absolutely no interest in the big sets.

Sell them as a set or blind bag them... and they'll have lots of my money, guaranteed.

Blindbags seem to be everywhere too. I walk around in toys r us, and it seems every aisle has some kind of blind bag thing in it. From play mobile, to lego, to mega bloks, to other little critters and toys. You'd think hasbro would get on top of it.

  3. Yeah, there's a thread about them over in the Other Toys section. Takara/Hasbro still own their characters and concept, they just let the trademark lapse, so DST owns the name now. I don't really see these new dice Beasts being imported by Hasbro, especially if they now can't brand them as Battle Beasts, but who knows.

I could see Hasbro bringing them over with a new name. Toys with games are a hot item. Skylanders seem to be doing well, Bakugan is a huge hit, and they got bot-shots going. Blind packs in general seem to be all over the place, lego, playmobile all kinds. It would really fit with what's out there.

Takara is trying to distance it a bit from the original. The original was a pretty shameless tie-in to transformers, calling them beastformers, even though the toys make type of transformation or anything. This time they get to be their own thing, Beast Saga. Hasbro could actually pull the opposite and try to tie into transformers by calling them "Beast Wars" though I doubt they will. Still, Battle Beasts were never as popular as the fans would like them to have been. They never got huge like transformers or GI joe. If hasbro wants to release these, they will, a name won't get in their way.

  4. I don't get it frankly. Why waste energy hating and being negative about something?

Obviously, you haven't been around for any of the Shockini bashing around here, have you?

No...but if it's people being negative and bashing something, I still don't get it.

  5. Wow, that forum makes me want to puke. I have never met anyone who is anti minimates in all of my toy collecting conversations. Even those that don't collect them at least think they're cool. A small part of me makes me want DST to ruin the line BB line just to make those dudes all pissy, luckily a larger part of me wants to see these things blow up because man this ram is awesome.

I guess the internet standards "haters gonna hate" is just true.

I don't get it frankly. Why waste energy hating and being negative about something? What do they want, the same exact thing we had before? I really like the original BB, but, they're an old toy, and needed an update. I've heard a great deal of confusing attitudes from people. Like, they're excited, and mad, and just all over. It doesn't make sense to me, to just be in love with a brand name. I like animal warrior looking guys. I love the papo mutants for example. These minimate battle beasts are more animal warriors. Just because they're called BB doesn't mean I have to love them, or for that matter hate them. It's just a name. I'm getting tired of people and their brand loyalty and then their hate for the competitor. Like what you like, no need to go around hating the other option. It's sickening and disgusting, just like pepsi.

Even then, takara is making new battle beasts too. BB fans have two options coming their way. It's like, the greatest time to be a BB fan since they were first released. They really have nothing to complain about.

  6. In this particular instance the majority of my 'gators are bagged ,does this really make a good picture ?

It's not bad. It could be cooler if they were out and about. What's cool though is you don't have equal amounts. That actually makes the reds like grunts, or pawns, and the silver like, a general or something. Get enough you might be able to make a chess set out of them!

I really need to get on top of photographing my starscream army. I don't have a good camera at all.

I have some odd 25 of those guys, the other 20 or so are in storage.

  7. So how many have I got ? Still not saying

So, for all we know, it could be none. :P

I think it's weird you keep it secret though. I'd like to see pictures of your collection. I wouldn't ask you to part with any of your figures for any amount of money, it's your collection, I get that. People see my stuff and make offers, and I turn them down, it's not why I posting the pics. Seeing a big collection is always impressive though. I love seeing those mass armies of storm troopers or something. I'd never spend that much on all them, but it's really cool when someone else does and shows it off. I want to try to respect your position, I don't understand it, and that's certainly no reason to disrespect it. Still, if you have a nice army going, it'd be great if you could share pictures.

  8. And screamfleet, I have to say I read your first comment and had to double-check what board I was on. I feel like I have never met a casual collector here.

Casual on mini-figures, fairly full on with transformers.

As for mini-figures, the universal minimates, some marvel mega bloks, and a few 80's battle beasts, and just all kind of assorted making up my little collection.

This is a really nice board to just lurk and post every now and then though. It's really just about the toys, not so much about the various things the toys are based on. It's good to be casual at times.
