  1. Back in the day with the Toys -R-Us boxsets that had Spider-Man, Venom, Carnage, Green Goblin, Rhino blind packed, ect. That one and the Ultimate X-Men one were my first. Then it just esclated.

Same here. Ultimate X-Men. At the time, I just thought I'd "try them out" as they didn't look too cheaply made, and were actually kind of cool. I kept them in "collector's condition" (i.e. I removed them from their packaging, but refused to take the bands holding their arms to their torsos off) for a while, until my sister was playing with them while I was otherwise occupied. She had removed Ultimate Cyclops' visor, and found the eyes underneath amusing. In a small bit of excitement, she called me over to show me what she had found.

I was furious, believing she had ripped off the visor (and hair! ) and permanently damaged the figure, until I realized the toy was made that way--with each part separate from the whole.

That was it. Minimates were officially the coolest toys ever made.

  2. I'm West Coast; obviously, no Star Trek Wave 5 for me today. :( Ah, well.

...internet abbreviations. Along with Starbucks, Apple, the Disney Channel and MySpace, this generation's lack of literacy will pull the planet down the toilet. :(

Dear God. I mean, come on. "Lawlz"? Are you freaking demented? You take a banal, trite, idiot's compensation for not being able to express himself intelligently, make it a "whole" word, and add a Z. Then, theoretically, use it in everyday speech. It's not bad enough you use it in writing. My mother received a birthday card from a friend (the friend's over fifty). First "word" on it?

    "LOL."

I agree. With great. Vengeance. Go read a book, or something!!

...all this coming from a black kid. :P

  3. Ho-lee goat nipples. Just got done talking to my LCS guy about this--he says they will be getting them, that I can get as many as I want (within reason; he knows I won't go crazy on them) on FCBD, and the next day, he'll give me whatever he's got left. Free.

    ...

I LOVE my comic shop. :D

  4. Ahhhh. So it wasn't just my LCS that got Iron Man Through The Ages. Interesting.

...two exclusive movie packs? I must be missing something. I thought there was just the Stealth Iron Man/Gauntlet Tony Stark pack.

And thank God TBT!'s not a mod. ;) How is this thread spam? This has been an extraordinary week, and Two-Face was just sharing his excitement and gratification over a solid week of Minimates--WITHOUT using hick's apostrophes or tons of exclamation points. Isn''t that what this forums about? :)

Plus, if we/management was so worried about having "thread clutter," wouldn't there be some kind of housecleaning of old/unnecessary threads every month or so (or something like that?). Just a thought.

  5. Wait, wait. Did Brickarms change the name of their figure after this article was published, or was The Sun simply wrong?

All I see in regards to the minifigure in question on the website is this:

    Mr. White

That's, uh, not necessarily Mr. Bin Laden. And how many kids play with Brickarms toys? Aren't these mostly for adult Lego collectors?

...and what's wrong with Nazis? EVERYBODY hates Nazis. And, they're not even called Nazis on the website. :nono: I'm sorry, maybe I'm terribly biased, as I love Brickarms. But this just seems ridiculous.

  6. Sorry to post on such an old topic, but I just received a set of Desperately Seeking Susan MiniMates. I live in Australia and we don't get most of the MiniMates in Specialty Comic Stores, let alone major retail chains, so I often order them from overseas (in this case, Canada). Quite often the postage costs me more than the 'mates themselves.

In this case - it was WORTH IT!

I'm not a HUGE Madonna fan, but these MiniMates are FANTASTIC. The attention to detail is amazing! Each of the girls is wearing one of the earrings featured in the film. The inclusion of Susan's hatbox as an accessory is perfect! The bottom of Roberta's legs have been painted green to mirror the green socks she has showing on the film poster. Even their belt buckles are painted on to match the film poster!

I bought these as a gift for a friend, who isn't a toy collector, but is a huge fan of the film. As soon as i gave them to him and he opened them, I started to wonder if perhaps I should have ordered 2 sets. . .

Hmm. Sounds interesting. I'll be picking mine up today, and I'll admit, I was having second thoughts. Having read this--I'm looking forward to it. :)

  7. Maybe tomorrow??

They only list Wednesdays, but my LCS guy told me that everything has been pushed back until this Thursday because of Thanksgiving. that would explain why it isn't listed.

Of course, i don't know this for sure. That LCS only gets Marvel (used to get DC, but we know where THAT went. :( ) but my either gets all, so i try for ya. :)

Yep, my man Phillip (LCS guy) says tomorrow. If not tomorrow, definitely next week.

...I'm also getting my special-order Desperately Seeking Susan Minimates tomorrow! Yay! :D

  8. Yaaaay, I just went to the TRU in Baltimore, and scored all of them! :D I got the Stealth Iron Man/Gaunlet Stark, and I finally found my Venom(That money was burning a hole in my pocket)! The employee there was extremely helpful, I think her name was April. But she was very kind and actually checked to see what they had(Well that is a first), and held onto the Venom pack for me. I feel fulfilled. :D

I have never met a female named April I didn't like. Ever.

I was born in that month, though, so that may have something to do with it. ;)

Why would these be so difficult to find? Maybe next time DST should go with a more organized, reliable retailer. Someplace where you can actually find what you're looking for--you know, like IKEA or freakin' Costco. :P

...wow. How amazing would that be? Minimates at Costco.

For those of you who don't know, that means Minimates in BULK. :woot:

  9. Oh. Hells. Yeah!

Got mine today. All of them. Including the Hulk pack, though I already have them. New packaging's worth seven bucks, no? :D EXTREMELY happy with them--thought that may be premature, as I haven't unboxed them yet.

Oh, how I missed that electric thrill of the hunt being at an end. I was so sure they wouldn't be there--that they'd evade me once again. Then, I saw it. My poor little eyes caught a glimpse of the Iron Man set. The breath in my lungs utterly disappeared, leaving me to express my excitement with little short gasps and wide-eyed ecstasy [i'm PERFECTLY aware of the double entendres here]. Suddenly, my legs are the only thing left with motor control, and they seem to have a mind of their own. A strange, ritualistic Happy-Cappy dance is played out in a dizzying frenzy of blurred motion, and finally, I have siphoned enough adrenaline to stop vibrating and pick up the toys.

The reality of the catch sets in, and you find yourself either utterly content and wishing you were home with your newfound friends, or terribly disappointed, discovering your hopes and dreams and utterances of the mind's eye in admiration of your target were greatly exaggerated.

Hopefully the former. Happy hunting, friends!

  10. Right now, I think the staff at TRU is overworked and underpaid. Be nice if you do go hunting and leave with a smile even if you don't find what you're looking for. Be happy you have a job, a roof over your head and disposable income to spend on minimates. Some folks aren't so lucky this year.

You are awesome. Thank you for this great message; honestly, I'm taking this to heart.

    No sarcasm here.

  11. Needs to be encoded as an MP4 file. Do you have a converter? And what kind of file is it already? I've never bought "digital copies," as--I mean, I've heard--there's plenty of software that transcodes DVD files to MP4s and other video file formats.

    ...or so I've heard. :whistling:

I've also found that, oddly, only sometimes, the PSP/VIDEO folder needs to be just that: capitalized. Once, on my friend's PSP, we couldn't get his pictures onto it, because the directory name wasn't capped. Another time, it worked just fine in all lower case, and was autoformatted by the PSP's own software. So, did you try making the directory name all caps?

  12. Forgive me if this is an obvious question, but who here thinks this'll beat The Dark Knight (in quality of film and economic prosperity)?

I'm...I'm torn. The Dark Knight was amazing. Great. Really really great. But Watchmen's looking--well, amazing. Great. Really really really great.

Which'll be better, and which will fare better, based on your own analysis and projections?

  13. Whilst not exactly "modern," I've just discovered Max Payne 1 and 2. Had absolutely NOTHING to do with the movie being out--honest--my friend and I were looking for games using the Havok physics engine. First game to do so was Payne 2. Quite fun. Very dark, but fun.

Movie sucked, though. Unfortunate, but not unexpected. :(

  14. Got mine as well, Jatta. They are indeed very, very nice. The pictures of Hulk do not do him any justice. They actually got his "Classic" look looking...well, classic. Kirby would be proud.

There are only a couple little "flaws" I've found so far, but I suppose we can all discuss those when more people have the set.

Honestly, it's hard to overstate just how cool these are. Getting the tray out of the forbodingly large (but very classic-looking) box is a sight. So many accessories! And all of them worth having. It's like they finally predicted all the visual outcomes [within reason] a displayer/collector/play-wither would want out of these guys.

Ant-Man's helmet is incredible, by the way. And the way they implemented Wasp's wings..."innovative" seems an inadequate term, to me.

...that should whet your appetites until pictures are uploaded. ;)

  15. Uh, Spade? We're all very impressed with your Marvel-tastic knowledge (no doubt Stan would be proud), but you totally missed what we were talking about. We're discussing the movie Cap. We all know the currently dead Steve Rogers from the comic books.

I'd say, next time, read the thread before posting :nono: --if I was a mod.
