  1. I'm in the process of taking down my Star Wars display so I can finally showcase my Minimates.

    My concerns are:

    - I don't want it to be a chore to dust them.

    - I need to keep track of the accessories.

    - It can't take up a lot of space.

Ideally, I'd have a wall of nothing but shallow glass shelving with sliding glass doors to cover it. That way I don't have to worry about lighting and dusting. I always thought a floor-to-ceiling display would look cool.

My problem is that my current collection room is on the top floor of my house and half the walls are angled thanks to the roof. With my son moving out, bedrooms may get jockeyed around so I might be able to get a new room with 90ยบ walls. Then I'd just need a way to archive my accessories.

Right now I've got almost all my 'mates in Plano boxes. They're pretty nicely organized and the thought of losing track of what accessory goes with which 'mate troubles me. That's when I start thinking about flat files and just keeping my favorites on display.

    Damned OCD...

I used to just keep mine in my dresser drawers, back when I owned 600+ 'mates (before I sold my collection to Luke). That way they didn't get dusty.

  2. She has been seriously left behind in all of the recent avengers waves.

I'm assuming that this is mostly because she hasn't featured in the MCU until now.

Look at the attention Hawkeye & Black Widow have received in comparison.

Hopefully her star will start to rise going forward frmo the Ant-Man movie.

That and the fact that she was presumed dead for several years.

  3. Secret Invasion, you say?

    Wasp.

We haven't had a new Wasp Minimate since that Avengers box set from way back when, have we?

No. No we have not. Oddly enough. She could use another figure couldn't she?

Definitely. I mean, the Wasp we have now is a great figure, but she's had so many different looks over the years, and it's been such a long time since that box set came out (at least 5 years, IIRC), that a new Wasp would definitely be welcome.

  4. Axis figures - I'd be *very* surprised is we didn't end up seeing a Zenpool out of this. I know it was only a brief look, but Deadpool had proven to be a sales winner for DST. This seems as good an excuse for a variant as any. If they did pair him with Enchantress, i'd be more than happy smile.png

As for Secret Wars.... i'm hoping to see more AoA. Queue the collective groan. Seriously though - AoA Shadowcat has been featured very heavily in the event. I think a Shadowcat Colossus 2-pack would be awesome (although, she'd more likely be paired with Starlord).

    AoA Shadowcat would be neat.

  5. I generally try to stay out of speculation threads. Especially when they get into intense discussions of racial stereotyping.

I'm pretty sure the wave will be on display at NYCC. Definitely at the panel. Might be in Previews shortly after that! Release early next year.

I hope people like it, it has at least three all-new, fan-requested characters out of seven, and the other looks are all pretty cool. No real army-builder, but a few of the figures have multiple looks, including the one that is in both of the two variant packs.

The wave is actually a bit of a mishmash, in that it features Secret Wars AND Axis looks. AND Secret Invasion. AND one other crossover.

And I said it once, but I'll say it again. Howard the Duck is NOT obscure. He's been in two Marvel movies -- a cameo in one of the most popular ever, and a starring role in the first one ever made! And Dazzler was in a video game AND a top-selling 1990s X-Men comic. Together, they're both close enough to A-List to get the job done.

They're kind of obscure. How many non-comic readers would recognize Howard or Dazzler? On the other hand, even most people who have never read a comic book before will easily recognize someone like, say, Batman or Spider-Man. Even some comic readers might not be familiar with Howard or Dazzler. Granted, they're not as obscure as someone like Looter/Meteor Man, Man Mountain Marko, or Plantman, but they're not exactly household names, either.

As for Howard's movie appearances...yes, Guardians of the Galaxy was deservedly extremely popular and no doubt gave him a lot of recognition, but I don't think that many people remember (or want to remember) his feature film. tongue.png

But then again, how many non-comic readers do you think saw GotG and recognized Howard? Not very many.

  6. If I had a better camera and if I was more creative, I'd definitely enter this, not for the prize, but just because it sounds like so much fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. Best of luck to everyone. :)

  7. I got a 3 legged reindeer!!! confused.gif It is off to customer service to try my luck in getting a spare leg.

It happens, but it's extremely rare. Of the literally hundreds of Minimates I've bought over the years, I've only experienced this once (one of my Aliens was missing an arm). DST has far fewer QC issues than any other toy line, at least from my experience.

  8. They've said in the past that even with an A-Lister in the two pack they can't make "just anybody," although that seems to be an "eye of the beholder" situation.

The moment the Howard/Dazzler 2-pack became a reality is the moment that argument got thrown out the window IMO.

I'll admit that Howard the Duck definitely came out of left field, but this is far from the first time that DST made a Minimate of an unexpected and/or obscure character.

That being said, I predict a Secret Wars or All New, All Different wave.

  9. So none of the Minnesota Hot Topics have them yet, Luke? I don't collect the Nightmare Before Christmas 'mates, but I live just a few blocks away from a mall that has a Hot Topic store and I would be happy to check it out to help a fellow collector.

None yet, but I will keep that in mind. Thanks!

That goes for everyone else, too.

Btw, was it the Northtown Mall one? That's the one by me.
