@MM, who is requesting a new iron fist? The best of figure is awesome

For a modern Iron Fist, yeah.  That one and only Classic Iron Fist we got was from A LONG time ago though.

"(TRU) 24 is a couple of modern looks for already-made classic characters; one needed semi-classic update; and three never-before-made characters: one classic, one semi-classic and one brand new. Mixed titles.

Box Set is one new classic character, two never-made classic costumes and one requested update, I think. Title-specific."

    Here's my top choices

One new classic character  =  Doc Samson

Two never-made classic costumes  =  Speedball / Marvel Girl

One requested update  =  Ghost Rider / Iron Fist / Power man / Abomination

These sound interesting, especially the Marvel box set (and TRU 24, but I bring up my issue with TRU too often as it is).

Let me know if you ever need help with the TRU stuff.

The Marvel box set sounds like it will be good.  I'm looking forward to the new Walgreens stuff too.  Did we ever get the line-up for that?  I don't remember.

I'll admit, I am actually looking forward to buying quite a few Vinimates going forward. I was back and forth for awhile, and knew I wanted to get at least the Buddy the Elf (fingers crossed for Santa)...

I'd be down for a Santa Vinimate.  Zach, do you know if there's going to be other Vinimates for Elf or is it just Buddy?

I don't consider 3 POA vinyls action figures anymore than I consider Vinimates.  But your mileage may vary.

What constitutes an "action figure" then?  Lego Mini-figures don't have much articulation but people still think of them as figures. The old LJN WWF wrestling figures from the 1980's had 0 articulation but people still think of them as figures.

Fun fact: If DST gets these two 80s TMNT sets to market it will be the most complete "classic" Turtles line since the original. No other line that's tried to go down this path has made more than just a few characters.

I don't know about that.  The Playmates 6" Classic line stalled out but these look promising:

Playmobil figs. are slightly taller. The firehouse is a maybe. Stay puff is a definite. I passed on the 2 ft. Bank by DST.  So I'll snag this.

Now, I'm torn between getting the Playmobil Stay Puft or the Vinimates Stay Puft.

$70 for the firehouse is better than $350 for the LEGO version....

Even though the Lego version is waaaaay more, I think it looks better and it sounds like the scale is closer too.

I want these new classic turtles, But more than anything I want DST to finally learn some lessons from poor wave planning. Every time we get something good going it gets canceled and most of the time you can pinpoint the poor decision that lead to the poor sales or cancellation.

I'm curious how many people would have bought 4 waves of turtle variants after getting their first set if they knew how DST was going to ignore more important characters that could have been made. I think the new classic turtles look great but the first though I had was that they would be canceled after those two waves. They may require less sculpting than the nick turtles but there is a history of this stuff that seems to happen way too often.

Man, I completely agree with ALL of what you said.  The Nick TMNT line WAS one of my favorites but now I regret buying most of it.  Guys like Chris Bradford, Anton Zeck and Ivan Steranko aren't impressive anymore since we're not getting a Fish Face, Dogpound, Snake Weed, Leatherhead, Stockman Fly, Tiger Claw, Rat King, etc.  Add in the fact that we now have incomplete Translucent versions and Dark Horizons versions and this line doesn't quite seem like the home run it should have been.

I'm also looking forward to the new 80's versions but I'm not getting my hopes up for this line to continue past what we're already seen.

As usual, DST's logic is baffling.

They offer Nick TMNT to TRU – a retailer already saturated with Nick TMNT product – because it's "current."

When that fails, do they offer TMNT product based on the "current" comic books to comic book shops? No. They offer product based on the 80's cartoon.

Well, I think most people that frequent a comic shop would want the 80's Turtles over the Nick Turtles.  There's really not a whole lot of Nick Turtles merch from what I've seen.  I've been buying all of the Nick Turtles comics and comic stores don't order many copies of the Nick Turtles comics if any at all.  (The current Nick Turtles comic is on a hiatus because they're doing the animated Batman/Turtles crossover.)

Pairing the Turtles would perhaps make it easier for customers who only want the four, but it it would also discourage collecting beyond the four. Also, it could lead to more peg warmers, as the main (or secondary) characters disappear.

I disagree with you on that.  I'd rather sell 2 sets versus 0 sets (because they didn't want to have to buy the whole wave to get all 4 turtles).  If anything, at least if people buy 1 set, they may really like them and go back to buy more.  I hate to say it but EVERY 2-pack from Series 4 & 5 has been a peg warmer from what I've seen.  Also, people have been complaining about the blind bag breakdown for a while.  There were a lot of people that wanted the TMNT blind bag figures but just gave up because the figures they wanted were pretty much unavailable unless you resort to the crazy eBay prices.

This was one of my favorite Minimates lines so it's frustrating to see how it was just hit a brick wall after Series 3 and won't be continuing anymore due to what happened with Series 4 & 5.  I just hope that you guys can apply what you've learned from past mistakes (failure might be too much in this particular scenario) to future lines.

Has there been a definite reason why no more nick turtles and no more TRU turtles are a thing?

There are 3 FULL PEGS (that's a lot of 2-packs) of TMNT Series 4 & 5 not moving at my local TRU.  AND that's at a price point of $3.98, not even $7.49.  The Space episodes weren't nearly as good as the episodes from the other seasons but they were a lot of cool looking characters that played huge roles that we never got (Mona Lisa, Lord Dragg, Armaggon, etc.)

I'm just throwing this out there, but they might move sets to casual collectors/current fans if you could get all four Turtles in only two sets instead of having to buy all four sets.  Also, they would probably move more sets to hardcore collectors if army builders like Kraang or Foot Soldiers were paired together.  I

know they probably have their own way that they like to do it but here's how I would've done the pairings for Retro Series 1 & 2

    Leonardo & Donatello

    Shredder & Splinter

    Foot Soldier & Foot Soldier

    Casey Jones & April O'Neil

    Michelangelo & Raphael

    Bebop & Rocksteady

    Baxter & Krang

    Foot Soldier & Foot Soldier

If DC Minimates are part of our current license, or definitely happening because of Vinimates, I have not been told. At the same time, I would not say that the existence of them hinges on the success of Vinimates, either. I don't know what Vinimates people are seeing on clearance, but we have a lot of new, arguably stronger licenses now, and plenty of retailer support for them, so I think they have a bright future.

    So...you're telling me there's a chance?!  Yeahhhhh!

Toys R Us clearanced down the Ghostbusters Vinimates and Think Geek clearanced down their Predator (and I want to say Alien) Vinimates.  There always seems to be the same amount every time I go to those places. I know we can't have Marvel Minimates that are over 2" tall but is there a way to get Marvel Vinimates or is that off the table?

  13. I gotta say I'm worried about the whole Vinimates first Minimates later thing that seems to be happening more and more.  I think the Vinimates look cool but I haven't bought any yet. The ones I've seen are already clearanced down at both Toys R Us and Think Geek.

I think a lot of people are going to have their pitchforks out if we don't get Minimates for a license due to poor sales of Vinimates.

I'm not super excited for Kingdom Hearts (MK, MGS or Simpsons would've been cool), but I'm interested to see what the Disney guys look like.

A lot of the Nick TMNT minimates had been moving very slowly at my local TRUs. Not as bad as Muppets but still pretty slow. I'd think there's at least a chance TRU just wasn't interested anymore.

Those damn space figures killed the Nick line.  Series 4 & 5 haven't moved much at all from what I've seen.  I was just telling a friend yesterday about the new 80's stuff and he said he stopped buying them for this son.  They have everything up until Series 3 but they just didn't like the figures in Series 4 & 5.

Again, while I'm really excited about the 80's stuff, there are lot of villains from the Nick show (which is amazing, by the way) that were never made.  My biggest gripe though is though we'll probably never see a Translucent Purple Donnie or the Dark Horizons versions of Donnie, Leo, or Mikey.  Comic con exclusive 4-pack for the TMNT fans maybe?!

Series 6 and 7 will be Retro Series 1 and 2. No more Nick TMNT.

They will be in two-packs, paired as shown, with Foot army-builder. This is the full Series 1.

Series 2 will have the other two Turtles, humanoid Krang, Rocksteady, Splinter, Fly Baxter, and more Foot.

Except for Don, all the Turtles come with happy and angry heads. Don comes with happy and reasonably content heads.

These will only be at comic shops. Not at TRU. No more Turtles at TRU.

Man, while I'm SUPER excited about these retro Turtles...I'm a little bummed out about no more Nick TMNT and no more TMNT at TRU.

Can we pleassssse get some spinning nun-chucks for Mikey?
