  1. I'm very worried about my LCS. I can understand DST working to get into the mass market, but what really bugs me is the "ship to TRU first". What a BS clause that is -- like any sales via a comic store are really going to hurt TRU's bottom line. It especially pisses me off! because my local TRUs don't have any of the recent releases on the shelves.

Seems to me we collectors ought to have the choice of being treated by people who care about us and the toys, even if it does mean a small jump in price. Are you listening DST?

  2. Oh, these are pretty darn cool. I'm thrilled to see DST stepping up to meet the standards set by DC (of course, both series are still vaporware...). Saddened that it's more X-Men, with a Wolverine no less. *sigh*

All that said, Storm rocks! If she looks that good in person, she'll be one of my highest rated 'mates. (And the Swordfish relationship doesn't hurt... heh)

  3. I noticed you said something about Tacoma recently, Donster, and also thought it's cool to have a fellow collector in the area. Hopefully you left some for me in Bonney Lake so I can get out there tomorrow.

As for the Wolverine/Iceman thing, it's just a solid case of 12 of those guys. It came after the Fantastic Four sets went away, and is currently in healthy supply at the Puyallup and Lakewood Targets.

Poop on a stick! Nothing, nothing in the Lynnwood/Everett stops. Guess I'll have to travel further south into Seattle. Thanks for your report, Donster, it brings me hope.

Hey Bob! Glad to see another PNW face around here!

  4. I went to TRU today, but they didn't have them. I was able to pick up the Speed Racer minis even though I have no interest in them. It was just something to satisfy my craving for more new minimates.

LOL. Man, I hear you on that.

So, anybody in the Pacific NW seen these yet? No new minimates at the two TRU near me (although they did have Darktide...)

  5. Yay! (where's that dancing dagget when you need it?)

With those variants and all, I'm betting this is a blind-boxed gambit. Which I will be fine with if the ratios are fairly even (none of this 1:96 bullshit).

Timbo's grumbling aside, I think this is neat way to do army building. While splitting out the new and classic versions seems like a lot, it all depends on case size, now doesn't it? :D

  6. Ever since DC set the bar higher by using the 2-1/2" minMate body for larger characters, I've been considering what Marvel characters should receive the same treatment (this assumes we all live in a fantasy land that allows DST to upgrade their license...)

Jatta Pake posted a very cool Hulk custom to that effect over at Minimateheadquarters which prompted me to pose this question.

So, who should get bigger, whether already produced or not. Keep in mind that at miniMate scale, 2-1/2" is like 8 feet tall. As such, Thing should not be taller, just keep him with the big chest and fists.

  7. Hey Nestle! I was in a Target yesterday that had one of those sets, so I examined the back of the box for you. Here's what I've determined:

The track has a pair of those rubber wheel things that propel the cars around. It wheels zip them up the central slope, then the spiral down, apparently doing whacky things on the big open curve. Hit the bottom and -zip!- back up they go, as long as the batteries hold out.

Off to the right is a lever you can press to "detour" the car. They have to make it throught the spinning wagon wheel (I couldn't determine if that was electrical or kid-powered). If successful, a down-a-vator catches the car and lowers it gently to the floor.

There you go, hours of Pixar fun in your very own home!
