  1. Ugh.  While I'm down for whatever could help sustain the brand, I gotta say, all those costumes look terrible.  Overly complicated, too 'realistic', and muddled; Personally I'd prefer an inspired-by wave than sacrificing a wave to these crummy designs.  Besides, we all know what would happen: It'd be six figures, ultimately some important character would be left out, and then everyone would complain.

    Thems my two cents.

  2. Man, that X-Men show hit me right in the sweet spot.  I was between 10 and 12 when it started (I forget the year), just started reading the comics, AND was super into the toys; Man, it was THE BEST.

Rewatching the series since has been very hit or miss.  The episodes I remember really hitting (anything with Bishop, Cable, and The Phoenix Saga) still hold up, while everything else is pretty not great (especially after season 2).  My favorite thing about that series is how they would just drop in cameos for the fans - comic accurate and generally non-speaking - it was everything I wanted from a Marvel show.

  3. Honestly, I think high numbers are scary for adult collectors who don't want to feel like they missed out.  It's the same reason why comics feel like they need to restart at a new #1 all the time.

Personally, I think it's character selection and proper fanbase management that attributes more to sales than a dumb wave number.  If someone wants to buy a figure, the wave number probably won't stop them; they might say it does, but I don't believe it.  High wave numbers (or issue numbers) is an easy excuse to not buy something, but if it wasn't there, I think they'd just find a different excuse.

I mentioned in the other thread, this is such an exciting wave.  Constrictor is one of my favorite, eye-catching B/C-list villains.  I'm a sucker for some early 90s nostalgia Deathlok to go with Darkhawk, Thunderstrike, and Silver Sable.  Now, if we can get ourselves a Nomad and a Sleepwalker, I'll be feeling really good!

Don't know much about Ghost in this form, I really liked this run of Spider-Woman.  Mockingbird, no matter her form, is always welcome.  And I'm more than happy to have a Stealth Iron Man suit, as that and Silver Centurion were always two of my favorite looking Iron Man armors.

Your opinions appeal to me and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

Seriously though, yes to this entire wave.  YES YES and MORE YES!  So unbelievable stoked for Deathlok and that new Spider-Woman (Loved that Hopeless run)!  Love to see DST taking a chance with some deeper dive characters like The Constrictor and Mockingbird.  This is exactly the kind of wave I want to see more of from DST.  Here's hoping it's a success!

  5. Man, good for dst straight knocking it out of late with these waves.  Can't wait to see all of them.

Who do we think are in that last two pack?  Wolverine as Fang? Ch'od? Hepzibah? Smasher? Mad Emperor D'Ken? There are so many options!

  6. Marvel Legends is getting into the Maximum Venom game with a few new venomized figures.  You think it's a hint to what we may see at Walgreens later this year?  Like they'll do a series 2 (or 1b) with a Gwendom, Venomized Miles, Iron Man, and... um... Captain Marvel?

Not that we'll see any of that at the show, but you know, for future thoughts.

  7.  Not to shine any hope on everyone's doom and gloom, but are we sure it's cancelled forever?

Like, that list, if I'm reading it right, seems to have a lot from dst on it.  Maybe there was some weird other crisis that made them cancel all the existing preorders, or something.  I don't know, it just seems weird that SO much DST product is getting cancelled.  Unless the company is going under (which, in this economy is always a possibility), I wonder if there's something deeper going on.

Regardless, fingers crossed that things work out and I can get that dang Darkhawk.

If anyone is interested in the Amazon Alpha Flight set, it's a Cyber Monday deal at $40 off the regular price. Considering that it's only been out a month, I'm shocked it was discounted so quickly (people at the Fwoosh are *pissed*).

I mean, given the reaction to the minimate boxsets, are you really that shocked?  Seems to me that Alpha Flight is never a strong seller and those exclusive box sets always do poorly.

That said, thanks for the heads up!

Series 80 is not street-themed, it's a little bit of a hodge-podge - loosely connected, but it does include a few characters who have never met. I've seen the designs and they're very cool.

But of course I would say that.

    Series 80:

    Three two-packs, one BAF.

three women heroes: two never made, one in a costume we've never made.

four men: one hero and one villain we've never made, one villain we've only done as a movie version, one LONG awaited hero re-do. Like single-digit series.

You know, with DST doing a great job of knocking out the most demanded figures, it gets harder and harder to guess what the new waves could be.  In times like these, we need BOLD GUESSES!  Let's do it!

How about a new USAgent (Long awaited hero redo AND starring in the upcoming D+ series) and a Batroc Ze Leaper (Villain they've only done as a movie version)?

What about a Machine Man (never before made male hero AND starring in a new series next year) and Jocasta (never before made female hero AND a big player in Iron Man right now)

And like a, I dunno, The Hood (never before made villain AND perennial fave) and a Kate Bishop Hawkeye (Never before made female hero AND just cool, okay?)

That leaves one female hero in a new costume.  Obviously it would be Black Widow in her 80s grey suit? That divisive Spider Woman costume with the jacket?  OH! The Wasp in her black and yellows!

There you go, a collection of bold, semi-plausible guesses that we can all laugh at when it finally gets announced.

  10. I could see this box set happening and it disappointing almost everyone.

A Dark Phoenix, a Byrne Cyclops, A Lliandra, and probably a Wolverine (maybe as fang, but probably not).  Hopes and dreams for the Starjammers, the Imperial Guard, and the rest would be dashed quickly and mercilessly.

Personally, I can do without even if my Dark Phoenix is looking a little long in the tooth.

  11. I finally found Wave 10!  In Santa Monica!  Which is super far away from my house and a pain in the butt to drive to (I was there for work).  They had a complete wave, or they did, until I snatched up that Adam Warlock and Rocket two pack.

    Good luck out there!

  12. Not for nothing, but a box set of Ghost Rider (traditional), Daimon Hellstorm, Satanna, and Blackheart, seems like the perfect tie-in set to release around halloween next year.

I doubt it'll happen, but one can hope.

Where abouts in North Hollywood? I used to live around there.

Vineland and Magnolia; it's the one that's just East of the big arts district drag.

Noho, while still a little weird, has really cleaned up it's act in the past 5-10 years; Some real fun spots now.  How long ago were you living there?

  14. Would you believe, I actually found series 9 (Enchantress/Executioner, Star Lord/Collector, Kraven/spidey, and Hobby/Spidey) today in Burbank.  Not as exciting as finding that Adam Warlock wave, nor that Spider-Girl wave, but a nice change from the Kang/Ms Marvel's that have been clogging up the shelves for the past...  eight months?

It was very exciting, even if I didn't buy any of them.
