  1. Some new compatibility finds: Minimate-scale canines!

This block-figure police dog came with a Takara Tomy truck I found. They usually come with a similar-style block person.

Next, some really tiny gashapon puppies! I should clean out that capsule machine next time and I'll have a whole mini-kennel.

    The unwrapping:

The little paper that lists the different "breeds" available:

... and yet I still can't find myself a Terror Dog or Lockjaw minimate.

  2. In my humble opinion, the basic Minimates body should be the unadulterated blank. From there, CHARACTER SPECIFIC tweeks should be introduced... But the integrity of the blank must be maintained.

Personally I'm with Jatta on the character-specific part. I'm probably only saying this because I started out late in this hobby, but some of the highly-sculpted details like Thanos' fingers didn't really bother me as much as they did the "purists" here. I guess it's all about maintaining an overall okay aesthetic that doesn't break too many rules of human proportion (i.e. the awkward-looking Duck Feet + Waist Extender + Boxing Mitt Hands combo you see on Ultimate Hulk, 90s Beast, etc.)

I agree about simple hands unless it makes sense for the character. But they should try to make all hands capable of holding any accessories that might come with them or offer the basic hand to swap when holding is required. Gorn, I'm looking at you! No wonder Kirk won. You can't even hold your weapon!

I probably wouldn't blame these on the minimate hands themselves but on DST's apparent problem when it comes to properly scaling down accessories. Back then it really wasn't a problem because accessories then were pretty simple when compared to what you see today where they're becoming as intricately designed as the 'mate themselves. Daredevil's billy clubs and Bullseye's throwing knives from the early waves look really bare-bones when you compare them to newer accessories like Ultimate Thor's hammer or the axe from the T-2 Cyberdyne boxset.

For a more compact comparison of "accessory evolution", there's the guns from the wave 9 Blade/Assault Punisher 2-pack versus the ones from the Punisher: War Zone boxset. You'd think that with the added detail, thinner grips to accommodate the classic minimate hands would be a no-brainer too, however that looks like one of those oft-overlooked manufacturing details or some sort.

  3. I'm guessing the early difficulty you had before had to do with the thingy with the waiting a couple days first before new members had permission to post? Or something like that. Anyway, welcome to our humble corner of the web!

(The answer is Honey, I Shrunk The Kids!

    You'll know soon enough ;))

  4. This seems pretty cool and (I'll admit) tempting. Might consider it, still not sure though.

Good luck on the search for new bloggers, Dave!

I'm intrigued by the 'firings', I now have this picture in my head of you yelling "Get out of my office Parker!!" . ;)

We fire our writers out of cannons, so I'd be interested in finding out how other websites do it. The gun powder is getting expensive considering we're non-profit.

Ever tried trebuchets? Ask Ivan, he should still have all the plans leftover from his poodle launching project.

  5. As someone who also lives very close to an airport, I can sort of relate to the eeriness of this. That is just plain freakin weird, the only other explanation I could think of was that maybe this was a stunt pilot? (Albeit probably a very hopped-up n00b one who set out to pull off some random craziness on 9/11 or something :ermm:)

  6. Hey, you got your entries for the Custom Minimate Poster Contest! :P

No mini-motivational posters from me yet, but these were my woefully lame image macro attempts from a little while back (feel free to use them around the 'verse every now and then ;)):

And here was the fake official-looking one I whipped up for Shane's birthday:

  7. A quick note: this latest chat's official page count is nineteen!

Since Binaryan didn't mentioned it, I'll throw out that Chuck gave out a special code to get free Minimates from DST for everyone that showed up for the chat. He said it was because we should dedication to the line and all those other people who blew off the chat weren't worthy of it.

I bet now all you people that decided to skip this for more important things are kicking yourself now. You should learn that time with your families and friends or working is not at all better than time with Minimates.

They also mentioned something about hopping on one foot and rubbing your tummy while spinning around three times, and then sending your nearest TRU some Kang-flavored muffins to redeem the Super Secret Special Edition Bonus Prize.
