  1. I'm actually surprised that we haven't seen a Spider-Man through the Ages set. I guess not even Chuck can justify that many Spider-Men in a given year (meaning a box set of 4 on top of the numerous retreads we'd see throughout the year).

Ms Marvel would be a good set, but she might not be a big enough name for the concept.

    Same for Doctor Strange.

  2. I can't see how pumping out the Battle Beasts gator again and again will really generate demand for the line. Heck, out of the 4 (5 if the Christmas one was actually released) that have been released, only one of them was for sale, and it was bundled with a carrying case. I fail to see how they can recover the cost of buying the brand and sculpting the molds for the one figure if they won't give anyone a chance to actually pay for one.

As for the focus of 2011, it looks like we're focusing on beating the X-Men side of the Marvel Universe to death. We have Thor and Cap movies coming, but we've seen nothing from the comic side of either group. Then, we have X-Men First Class, which will probably be the weakest of the three Marvel movies this year, and which DST hasn't shown much optimism in considering they're only releasing an assortment of TRU exclusives, yet they've already shown off a comic-based box set for X-Men First Class.

  3. I'm pretty much down for any of them (except Spidey, who brings absolutely nothing new to the table, though I think we can all agree that he'll be one of the first ones out of the gate).

The Marvel characters can bring a few who either have not been done properly or haven't been done at all to the table. And the Capcom side of the fence brings in all sorts of possibilities, just begging for DST to springboard into some of these other franchises.

While I hope they delve into the alternate costumes, I hope they do a better job of kicking the line off first than they did with Street Fighter. If we get 2 of Spidey's alternate costumes before we get Dormammu, I'll be disappointed.

And hopefully the endings will be game as well. We'd get Mega Man, Phoenix Wright, Miles Edgeworth, Ka-zar, Shanna, Matt Murdock, Dazzler, Nemesis, Spiral, Mojo, Satana, and Heimdall, plus updates to Kingpin, Ghost Rider, Doctor Strange, and J Jonah Jameson.

  4. It could be that TRU pushed for these. Can't imagine why since we still have Wolverine mates at my TRU, but maybe they sold better elsewhere. We do know that they've pushed for some of the other things DST has been putting out lately, so these may be no different, especially since they're exclusive to the chain.

  5. I can get the Z motion thing to work, just not every time I try. Sometimes it seems like it would be easier with the stick, other times easier with the D-pad, but I haven't really hit on a way to do it that works for me every time.

And I've always been terrible at combos. Most of my fighting game experience involves mashing buttons and spamming the one or two special moves I can get to work. The simple control scheme actually seems to support this behavior, since you only have two special moves and all you have to do is mash buttons. It just enforces the concept that this will work if you're playing against someone else who is doing the same thing, but if you go against someone who even remotely knows how to play, they will dominate you.

Incidentally, is there anywhere to stand or anything to do to avoid/block the final boss's hit everything attacks?

  6. Ugh, I cannot get half the moves to work in normal mode. I just can't get the Forward, Down, Forward-Down motion. This isn't so bad when you're in the middle of a fight, since 99% of the characters who have that move also have a Down, Forward-Down, Forward move that works just as well, but if you're trying to do the missions, it's frustrating.

Of course, I can't even switch from crouching moves to standing moves in the missions, so maybe the complicated Z motion shouldn't be my worry just yet.

I have to get better though. The simple controls are too limited, making half the characters overly useless in a fight (especially the final boss). Heck, Spidey's hyper move doesn't even work on the final boss, and with the simple controls, you can't use another one.

  7. I hope they add more characters, and not just alternate costumes that make other characters. I'm sure they have every intention of beating us to death with DLC, it just seems easier to repaint a character than to make a new character model, so I really hope they don't continue down that route and at least put some effort into making the add-ons worthwhile.

I still have no idea what I'm doing in the game. I'll probably switch off of the simplified controls though, since that seems to be aimed at the skill level below mine. I've experienced enough fighting games to understand the concept of hitting several buttons to achieve some end result as opposed to a single button. That being said, I'll miss my undefeated streak.

  8. I haven't figured out the clearance thing at TRU yet. Last time I was in there, the MAX vehicles, BSG, and Iron Man 2 were all on clearance, along with the Warthog.

I go in today, and Iron Man 2 and the Warthog are no longer on clearance. Not sure if the Warthog was clearanced by mistake thinking it was part of the other vehicle line, or what.

  9. I beat it. That was fast.

Granted, it was on very easy with the simplified control scheme, and I've only gotten one of the endings, and that wasn't even the one I was going for...

Fun though. I'll have to keep at it and see if I can get good enough to not be embarrassing.

  10. The size of Wonder Woman's boobs is definitely an important topic. Maybe they can devote a 2-part episode to it.

Kidding aside, why is it so hard to get a good Wonder Woman project going? I'd think a show where basically a female Superman is doing the superhero thing and showing off where a woman can be equally useful in an action hero role would do pretty well. Add in the drama of trying to balance a normal life with a heroic one and you'd cover all the angles. Instead, we get Wonder Woman's midlife crisis of infinite earths.

Of course, I've never read an issue of Wonder Woman, so maybe she does spend entire books worried about how fat she is and crying herself to sleep because Batman doesn't call. In that case, spot on guys.
