  1. Speaking of Alpha Flight and Dale Eaglesham, I was REALLY digging his art in the latest Red Hulk story - Mayan Rule - guest starring those Canucks. He's got a style that screams DC (where he's done a LOT of work) and that brings an interesting take on the Marvel characters, in my mind and eye.

  2. I'm guessing you either aren't a big fan of older monster movies or you somehow just never chanced across seeing "This Island Earth". :)

I haven't seen every movie ever made (wouldn't want to), but I consider myself enough of a cinephile to at least know of most movies...and I've never even heard of "This Island Earth"...

T.I.E. isn't part of what I consider the "classic" Universal monster movies - Creature from the Black Lagoon barely qualifies (if they didn't meet Abbot & Costello, they don't count  ) but it's a great design, so it works – but if anyone is really hankering for some Metaluna love, may I suggest the latest wave of Outer Space Men:

  3. Just bought the Queen Anne's Revenge pirate ship playset at Walmart - on clearance - for $15!! Couldn't pass it up!

Me 'mates look terrific on board! If you ask me, minimates are better-scaled to this ship than the POTC figures are! Plus there's plenty of room for all of them! Which is also the downside - this thing is nearly 3 feet long and easy 18 inches high. I've got a nice OSM Astro-Nautilus/kraken climbing up the side to boot!

    Yarrr.

  4. Found wave 10 at the local TRU today! I've been holding off buying Omega Red from the website since I wanted the AOA mates too. They also had the Captain America movie wave and Halo wave 2. I'm broke now. :(

Hey Salami! What's "local" for you?

  5. My mouth hung open for about two minutes when I saw the news! Awesome selection!

That said, my local TRU is choking on Thor/Lady Loki's, Cap/Wolvie's, hell, even plenty of Klaw/Storm's. I hope the market isn't getting too flooded, drowning the golden goose (to mash a metaphor) (...isn't that a Dateline NBC program?)

  6. Both X Men and X Factor boxed sets are in this month's Previews!

So, would that mean that comic shops will be getting these?

Yep. No big surprise there. Whenever AFX doesn't sell out of an exclusive they offer to certain other MiniMates stores such as BBTS and Luke's. If they still don't sell out, they offer to Diamond and sometimes those orders could be allocated based on remaining stock. It's usually a waiting game and sometimes a risk, but usually they can turn up at comic book stores.

I wonder how long it will be before the Chicago Expo Iron Man 2 2-pack will be available through Diamond... That is a set I definately want, but won't be able to go to the expo for it.

...and both X-sets are on my DCBS shipping list for this week, so looks like they'll be in LCS this week (or next - that was FAST)! Can't wait to get my hands on these!

C2E2 pack is in the April Previews, and I just noticed the Original X-Men 4-pack is NO LONGER available at afxpress.

  8. Some 4 pack thoughts...

Warriors Three 4 pack (see what I did there?)

Inhumans - Medusa, Gorgon, Triton, Karnak

    Wrecking Crew

Defenders completer - Nighthawk, Hellcat, Gargoyle, SOS

Red Hulk family (Red She Hulk, Lyra She Hulk, Doc Samson, A-Bomb)

Intelligencia (imagine a MODOK minimate?!) - Leader, Red Ghost, Wizard

Legion of Monsters - Morbius, Man-Thing, Werewolf, and uh,....

    Old School New Mutants

Old School Guardians of the Galaxy (see Bowen busts for reference)

Alpha Flight - Snowbird, Aurora, Northstar, Sasquatch, Shaman, Marrina, Guardian, Vindicator (two 4-packs, that is)

I'm drooling just thinking about these.

  9. Vigilance has paid off (like, going to the same TRU EVERYDAY for weeks vigilance)

They finally got the Marvel mates in, and I got there to find the Angel pack right up front. There were so many pkgs on the pegs, I thought they got 2 cases in, but it was a Ghostbusters 2 case. I left the other MM/SW set for some lucky gal, guy or scalper.

they also got more BSG craft.

  10. However.........if Cornerstorecomics can't shift the 90 complete sets of variant Wave 4 of BSG that have sat in their inventory at $10 a set for the last 2 months.......... "what would make it last, this time?" http://www.cornerstorecomics.com/index.cfm...;Product_ID=314

I think that has less to do with the BSG mates' popularity and more to do with all the credit card scam problems CSC has been dealing with in the last 6 (?) months...

  11. Hmm, I got quite a few more:

    1. All the Multiversers.

2 An Egyptian set with Horus, Anubis, Osiris, Ra, Bastet, And Amun.

    3. A Tin Robot MiniMate set.

    4. A Colorforms Aliens set.

And that's it for now. ;)

Speaking of the Colorforms Aliens (or Outer Space Men)...

I actually bought this book a couple of months ago - it's a fun read, and if it helps grease the skids to get these toys (re)made, all the better!

  12. I found the Viper & Raider last night (yay me!) but my Hot Dog doesn't have any hair...:blink:

Let me try that again - I didn't find any separate hairpiece for the minimate in the Viper package. Was it packaged in an out-of-the-way place?

When my Wolverine was missing a shoulder pad last month, I wrote DS Customer Service and they sent an entire replacement Wolverine, including alternate hands and hair! You can never have too many Wolverines...

  13. The most popular fantasy story of all time (that isn't sci-fi) is probably Lord of the Rings, and those Minimates apparently weren't that popular. Certainly, they haven't maintained any collector interest. I'm not sure why Harry Potter would be any different, unless you figure young kids would be more inclined to buy them. . .which they might be, as I think of it :ermm:

I don't know if that's true anymore. Harry Potter is the best selling book series ever, fantasy or any other genre. Every time a new movie comes out it whips the fever up all over again. I think that if they were timed with the release of one of the final 2 films and put in a major retail location (TRU, Wal-Mart, Target, etc.) DST could print their own money.

Oh, how I agree with that! Collect 'em all!
