  1. Who watches the Watchmen?

    I did.

Well, actually I just came home from the movie theatre and it was a very nice film!It wasn't as brilliant as it could be, but it was well done.

    Here are the black bars:

The Minutemen-The-Times-Are-A-Changin' Intro was an awesome idea in my eyes and I really liked how they adapted many of the details. Even the changed ending was, if not totally satisfying, a decision I can live with. It's more plausible then I thought it would be. I was totally surprised to see Jon completely naked throughout the whole movie and I didn't expect to see the sex scene in Archie that explicit, and really liked it. (Not in a voyeuristic way - of course both actors are sexy - but it really fits in there. It's not just one of those cheap exploitation sex-scenes.) I really loved Rorschach and Comedian was superb. Dan was a little too confident, especially in the beginning (Telling Rorschach those were great times, whatever happened to them? - You quit. That just wasn't conclusive in my eyes.) The chapter we see things the way Jon does was brilliant! Besides the fact that all plot lines that doesn't deal with the superheroes are left out (which I sort of understand and accept), I was very disappointed by Veidt. The actor was good, but my reception of him in the comics is more of a guy that has a perfectly good standing in public, is a charming and most favored person, intelligent but polite and somehow a "popstar" in a way Obama is (Read that brilliant interview with him to see what I mean). The movie Veidt is more of an arrogant and sinister businessman. That first press interview really introduced him as a bigheaded smart ass. Maybe they were looking for a villain somehow... And Laurie and Dan killing (!) people is completely ridiculous, they'd never do things like that, especially when Rorschach tells Dan afterwards that he's way too soft dealing with criminals. I mean, the difference between "superheroes" like Dan and "superheroes" like Rorschach are the fact, that the latter actually do hurt and kill people while the former wouldn't do that! That was really disturbing. Just like the action sequences. I mean, come on, Laurie and Dan unhesitatingly fighting like 20 knotheads? And Rorschach doesn't stumble upon a garbage can when he flees from Moloch's flat, but fighting 10 policemen? I mean, Wolverine does that, OK. But I always thought that these "superheroes" are that authentic because they are "just" atheltic and not superpowered. Well, maybe it's just me.

    :geek:

But on the whole, just like I said, a very nice movie with many adorable scenes and some of lesser brilliance.

i hate being in junior high i friggin cant see the midnight showing at the palms....dammit!i think im gonna go to a release party at the palms with some of the dudes from my lcs...friday....i will be watching the watchmen...

  2. I just came across that My Chemical Romance interpretation of Desolation Row for the movie and I felt really annoyed. I don't know, maybe I'm already too old for that stuff, but does anybody else feel that this is some kind of uninspired and fanciless? Compared to Dylan's original?

Anyway, in 24 hours I'll be sitting on my seat in movie theater.

Had the exact same thoughts. People would say that since I'm young, I'd love MCR and not know who Bob Dylan even is, but man, is that wrong. :)

Its funny (and annoying) to hear the MCR version, and know how the original goes.

i like the cover but it annoys me that i cant understand the lyrics good thing i know dylan's original lyrics...check out the music video...it makes it a tad bit better...fridayfridayfriday...oh and nice nite owl bro

  4. Well, with only a few weeks to go before the Watchmen premiere, I'm going to try to resist watching any preview/behind-the-scenes videos (bar the first two official trailers) so that I'll get surprised once I actually enter the theater. Of course I'm now a little concerned about the "bad" buzz I'm now hearing from other people about stuff like Ozymandias' casting and the rewriting of several crucial scenes, but as of today I'm going to reserve all judgment for after I watch the movie.

Like Jad said, if this movie reeks then at least we'll have the comic to fall back on. My only worry from here on end will be the potential headache we'll face convincing first-timers to read the comic even AFTER seeing Snyder's version. Suddenly, I sympathize greatly with all those 300 and V For Vendetta purists. :(

You know what?I'm joining you, what youre doing is smart...i did this star wars episode three came out and i was so dissapointed because all the surprises were gone...i had read the spoilers because i was so giddy i was 10ish when this happened 4 years later im making a wise choice...oh btw hot potato with people that are really hungry is called my potato...

  5. im having a mini freakout and im pondering whether or not it will be good...i love the book and i hope will love the music but the slow motion is a bit excessive and then ackerman's acting was stale...i'm scared man someone comfort me... :ninja:

This should comfort you. No matter how the movie turns out, the book will continue to exist, and to rock hard-core, for generations to come.

And to answer your question from earlier, I lived in San Diego for a year, and spent a lot of time on that stretch of shore.

thats cool and awesome i love it over there and we went right when the sea lions came...it was cool.

There really is no spoiler here, I just love these black lines! Rorschach is killed by Dr. Manhattan...

lol i do to love these lines...or is he killed by dr. manhattan?he couldve been teleported to london put into an asylum right when war was beginning burned to death then he couldve become V...orrrrr he died.

  6. Can't you let a boy dream Mr. NorthRaider?but seriously it makes more sense the way alan moore wrote it but on the bad side the first comers might like have a bitch fit and walk out of the theater when they see a giant vajayjay-like alien in new york...another thing too audiences might take wrongly is new york getting f'd up cause all that post 9/11 trauma you know?america is hella sensitive to that stuff...and what do you think happened to jon after the talk with veidt?he just left...that is the only part i don't understand in the whole book...no spoiler needed in this past post too busy thinking...lol

Yeah, the whole "WTF is an alien doing in Watchmen" reaction from non-fans might indeed have prompted the edit in the movie ending for a somewhat more "plausible" one.

As to the whole New York 9/11 sensitivity thing the very fact that this movie's getting made might be a sign that America might just be able to finally overcome the emotional trauma of that day... Then again I'm also considering that Watchmen might've just simply slipped the cracks as far as the PC police are concerned (since, you know, they're too busy worrying about other stuff to pay attention to a comic book movie), and that once it actually comes out in theaters it's only then it'll prompt that late-reaction uproar over that uncanny ending (You know... like the conservatie parents who didn't KNOW what Twilight was actually about until it was too late...)

What do I think happened to Jon at the end? Here's an interesting list of wild, crazy theories about the whole book. As for me,

yeah Jon said that he might be interested in "creating his own life" elsewhere, but with him having all that emotional baggage I believe he's just gonna end up aimlessly wandering the universe like an emo

    .

haha lol and i guess your right about the 9/11 thing...yeah the PC police are busy watching cookie monster sings chocolate rain...also some of that shit on that link is hella weird like rorschach being V and dr manhattan breaking the 4th wall...another slepless night for the ninja...thanks for the info

  7. whew oh and by the way was this a wall of text?lol

Not as big a wall of text as what Bob and I just put up.

North Raider, what you said about

Dr.Manhattan possibly being framed for the explosion in New York makes sense because at a scene in, i think the newer trailer where silk spectre says that "jon thinks their is going to be nuclear war"you see a large blue explosion emitting from times square...here is what i think:1)either they keep some sort of alien and this time jon blows it up thus causing the exlosion...2)or jon gets framed for the psionic blast caused by whatever entity Zach Synder decides to come up with...

I really like your first idea about how the ending might turn out (since it poses even MORE of a gray-area morality question), but I have that sinking feeling Snyder's most likely gonna go with number 2. Plus I think it's already been confirmed

there will be no alien and/or island full of artists at all in the movie

    .

  8. entertheninja!, what's up with that photo of two people in La Jolla, CA? Is one of them you? Just curious, but I can't figure out how it's relevant to Watchmen.

Oh my god...how did you know that was in La Jolla, CA?Nice inquiring skills Jad.and i did to distract you all from that fact that i....AM TAKING OVER THE WORLD(and canada)....NONE OF YOU CAN STOP ME FROM TAKING OVER THE WORLD(and canada)...or i just did to see what the reaction would be and yes that was like a couple of months ago with my momma...so touching...

North Raider, what you said about

  9. Now here's a more interesting question:

Did Dr. Manhattan do the right thing when he killed Rorschach?

I say yes. I agreed with Ozymandius and I believe that the ends justify the means. So Rorschach stopping something that great is something that I did not agree with. So I was completely with Dr. Manhattan when he did it. Though I was not happy about it, I knew it had to happen.

I guess that depends on whether you agreed with

Ozymandias faking an alien invasion and subsequently killing hundreds of people for peace. Bear in mind that there's the possibility that his plan isn't foolproof, that even after the trauma of the explosion there is still war going on. Dr. Manhattan sorta hints at that right before he leaves Earth forever, in his last words to Ozymandias.

Not to mention the whole reason it was necessary to kill Rorschach in the first place: "No compromise."

i wasnt happy with it either but rorschach had to die and war will continue on just like doc manhattan said before he left.

  10. i need some advice...i just bought a wacthmen tee from hot topic and am officialy geared up for watchmen but there is one thing missing: the tickets!! should i fandango those bitc*es or should i buy them right then and there?

on a seperate note:watchmen will not be a complete disaster like speed racer or the spirit and it will definatley gross more than one of my favorite movies of last year:hellboy 2.i think it'll fall between 100 mil or 130 mil.

    here's why:

you have the readers of the book: 50 mil(est)

    hardcore dc fans: 15 to 20 mil(est)

word of mouth and plain curiousity: 15 mil(est)

    2nd viewings: 10 mil(est)

nothing to do on 03-06-09:5 to 10 mil(est)

that equals all about 100 mil, if you can think of any other factors throw wm' out there.
