So, My year started out poorly, but I optimistically feel like I was just getting some minor bad out of the way or it was 2016's last stab in my back.  On New Years Eve, I got really sick and was in bad shape until about the 5th.  I wouldn't wish that crud on even Buttheadsmate! :P

Feeling new and ready to hit the shops again, I am looking at the new stuff including non-Minimates and assessing shelf space to determine my collecting path.  There is some cool stuff coming out.  I particularly like the direction Aliens and Predator have been going.  More Muppets would be nice.  A return to Classic Marvel would make me happy.  I am digging the statues DST are doing and already have a couple.  My brother sent me a pic of the Hulk piece and I didn't even know it was out yet.

I'd love to hear the thoughts/plans of my fellow collectors.

Glad you are feeling better (?) ... I hope it wasn't due to Krimpet overload!

This is looking like a pretty pivotal year in collecting for me. I am very mixed on whether I want to keep going or not. There are a few things I am waiting to see before I take my next step ... a few things I am crossing my fingers for, which I am trying to keep a very positive attitude towards, and hope the ( my gut feeling )let down will not be too severe.

Silly sells. Animated adventure series aren't the draw they once were.

Personally I prefer shows like Young Justice and Legend of Korra but Adventure Time and Steven Universe have their appeal as well.

I personally would be just as happy, if not more so, if they did young justice as a way to do DC. The look and feel of YJ makes it my favorite DC animated series ever (Superfriends was so great back when i was little, but tough to watch now). Cant wait for more news on season 3

  4. Love the customs! really like how the leprechaun is shaping up! Every year i want to make Christmas mates, but run out of time..... I want to do some small dioramas for Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, and The Grinch. I also plan on making my family for a christmas card one of these years, and other generic little dioramas to display...... one of these years perhaps...

I know your preferences, Nervous, but we can't argue with the stats. The movie waves sell better. Chuck will never walk away from comic series, especially when he can time one to a movie like Series 72, but making 50% of our offerings movies and TV based is totally influenced by how the majority of "Marvel fans" enjoy their Marvel content. Comic readers are now a minority compared to filmgoers and Netflix subscribers.

But like I said, Chuck knows who brought us to the dance, and he and Barry have some cool comic stuff planned for TRU 24, TRU 25, Series 75 and an upcoming box set, not to mention the next couple of Walgreens assortments, 5 and 6. You might even see something you like for Homecoming and Ragnarok, too.

Absolutely agree... I never intended on arguing stats or basing my wants on anything that made sense, lol... i know the movie stuff is killing it, and love that for DST... merely saying what I want, and the majority of what has been coming out, are two different things. I think the movie stuff looks really good, but not my cup of tea. I think Ragnarok may be an exception (based on costumes). I'll look out for those upcoming series..... but that's the same thing again, the waiting game for me is so long in between waves I like. not mad or anything, maybe its just my time ...

I agree with you in theory, Nerv, though I have a hard time backing you up right now since we just got the Giant Size X-Men wave and have the Black Knight wave shipping this week.  I don't think that mixing movie and comic characters together the way Hasbro has done would work for Minimates, but I do hope we continue to see a better spacing between movie and comics releases.  I wonder if breaking up the movie and comics waves up between TRU and comics shops would make sense?  It's not like they usually ship together, or are usually on shelves when the movies are out, so why not have a comics wave arriving at one location while a movie wave is arriving at the other?

I cant argue with you, valid points. I only posted something because of what Zach said. I flat out skip 95% of the movie stuff, and I'll add in the TV/Netflix into that as well. Funny timing, because waves 68 and 69 are hitting pretty close together. But, if you take away all the movie and tv stuff, I have to go back to January as the last time i bought anything from the Marvel waves.I did manage to grab a Nighthawk, and Hyperion (and still have that other pack if you want to grab it ;-) ). Other than the Black Knight and Falcon, I don't see anything I'm very interested in on the marvel side ,other than Mojo (who i hate as a character, but the Minimate is very well done).

Bottom line, I'd be buying more mates if there were more comic mates being made. Since i don't buy Movie Mates, I'd be onboard for some comic companion sets that relate to the movies. The huge amount of time I personally have to wait in between the sets i want is what has lowered my interest and passion for minimates in general. Again, if it wasn't for stuff like the Muppets, NBX, and hopefully some awesome Elf mates, I don't know if I'd be in the hobby anymore.

Still not sure why you would expect a random assortment of galactic characters to hit with or after the GOTG series, although it's certainly a neat formula Legends has hit upon. But I like our more film-focused approach.

Trying not to be negative, but only stating a fact here... This formula is what has been pushing me away from minimates. If it wasn't for the muppets and NBX and the excitement that Elf brings for me, I may have stopped the hobby altogether at this point.  I wish there were more comic companion waves to all the movie stuff ( i am not factoring in anything like cost and schedule, or anything else, in case anyone felt like challenging me with stats/numbers/buyers/etc... This is only based on me liking comic versions way better than movie versions of 99% of the characters)

  8. My personal favorite minimate (which I will have to update someday. The paint and sealer i used decided not to cooperate long term, so he has become very sticky) is my Custom Blue Falcon.... I still wish for a Hanna-Barbera license for minimates (and selects) one day.......

As for Charity, My wife and I  donate to St. Jude's every year, as well as donating each year to local families around the holidays who are in need.  Also, my  Masonic Lodge holds Charity events throughout the year. we also have a partnership with Vest-a-cop  (raising money for body armor for local police) and toys for Tots with the local Marine Corps Reserve unit.

I want to give a shout out to my son (who is in 2nd grade) , who this year grabbed $20 out of his money jar to donate to a family that his school is raising money for. They lost everything in a house fire, and he told me those kids need it more than him, and that giving to charity makes you a good citizen... So proud of that kid!

  9. NIce Santalien!

Firstly........I love hearing Elf mentioned again by you, Zach.....  Hopefully we'll get a proper Santa with this, and Buddy has the perfect elf costume, so that's perfect for me. I'd love the snowman and some of the forest critters too!

Has there been any interest or attempts at going after films like Christmas Vacation, or Christmas Story? I'd be all over those!

This was brought up briefly a couple years back but I was wondering if there'd be any more interest in Holiday Minimates.

At first I'm picturing 4-packs of non-licensed 'mates designed by Art Asylum that would be released to coincide with specific holidays. For example, a winter set could be traditional (Santa and Mrs. Claus with elves) or edgy (Kris Kringle & Jack Frost vs. Krampus & Yeti). I'd love to see AA's take on leprechauns and cupids, especially if they're anything like the goblins in Pathfinder. A Halloween set could be different every year, featuring AA's take on venerable monsters, from werewolves and mummies to ghosts and vampires.

I love all these ideas, even did my own Krampus a few years ago.....krampus.jpgimage.jpgch9.jpgI threw in my Santa and Buddy for good measure :-)

I may be alone in this, but I had always wanted a line like PLaymobil and lego have (especially with the blind bagged series both have), with random noname figures. Basically maximum Zombies , but before they turned into zombies. Those character choices were so much fun, and was planning on de-zombifying them when i got them ..... you all know what happened with those.

I am aware that DST makes their money with licensed properties, and tried with stuff like MAX and Pirates. Max was awesome in my opinion, and while I loved pirates, they may not have been generic enough. As much as I appreciated the attempt at the Santa Pirate ship, I did not like it at all. All I saw was "player 2 Santa Color Scheme" on a pirate. I had always wondered and hoped that the poor response to that set, wasn't the reason no other Christmas stuff( or holiday stuff) was offered or talked about.

Back on topic... Captain Paco, I'd love to see your leprechaun, curious to see which type of style you are going for.

I'd also love different holiday sets, even goofy stuff like an ugly christmas sweater 2-pack set ..... (good idea for a contest, lol) or for Halloween, have monsters, but also have people dressed up as monsters, clowns, cowboys, etc..... with alt heads/removable masks with big eyeholes cut out........Two of my favorite lego figures are the little devil boy, and the skeleton guy, which are both Halloween costumes, and they come with little baskets.

  10. Hey Gang, I completely missed the deadline (obviously)..... I can't upload any pics from my phone , the option still isn't there for me, but wanted to share anyway. I traced my hand and asked me son to decorate it with things we are thankful for. We are thankful for our family, and our new house we moved into this year...

Has anyone ever created a template to fit on cap's shield? I have a Red Guardian sporting a red, white and blue shield. Looks unnatural.

I painted the shield red, and found a pack of white star stickers at either Michael's or Staples (forget where exactly). May have even been Target, but it was a pack of random sized stars, and it worked pretty good if you ask me.

  12. Thanks fellas...... great idea boyd, it should work nicely!

hope to get back on track soon. got a few projects left in the new house before i dedicate some time to customs. Getting new ideas and problem solving all the time, so when I'm ready, I'll be ready! (if that makes any sense)

but first, we leave for Disney for the next week! see you suckas later!
