This is another line with some potentially exciting accessories and gear. But I'll probably be less cavalier about mining them for parts, mainly because I really want these characters.

This is an important statement... Most of my minimates career (going on 20 years now) has been looking and scouting parts that would work to make different GI Joe/Thundercats/etc... customs. It is really the only reason i started making customs, to have my favorite characters in the minimates form. So now, with all the Hasbro stuff, I really don't have to do that anymore, which is a little sad, but also makes me very happy, because these are the ones I've wanted the entire time... It hits the most true with D&D because the parts and accessories are so unique to each character, I've never been able to make them the way I'd like to. I'm looking forward to this next phase of minimates, where i just collect, enjoy, and don't have to modify anything, lol

  2. Me again... not sure if many folks are still doing customs. I've been plugging along for the last few years and putting together a bunch of public domain heroes... most of these guys I pulled from Project Superpowers... and the molten man is a stand in for Man 'o Metal (which I've since finished, along witha handful more. Might only be a few people who would actually care about these characters here, but I love the old 1940's costumes. Thanks for looking.

Sorry, I was thinking of someone else. We are making Warduke. And a villainous animal....

Yassss! Warduke! OK, so this line might seriously be in my top 3 lines of minimates, along with GI Joe and Thundercats. And the fact that these and the Joes are new stuff has me feeling like the best is yet to come with minimates!

I actually don’t know squat about d&d.  But warduke has always been a fascinating character.  The neca figure coming out is insane. Indon’t really collect non minmates anymore but neca has pulled me back in with warduke, gargoyles, and the universale ninja turtle monsters

This is almost the same for me...I loved the D&D cartoon, and hoped for figures forever ...  I got back in with bigger figs a few years ago when Super 7 started to offer the rest of the thundercats, and even silverhawks which i'm looking forward to..

But even if that didnt happen, i was all in for Gargoyles and Can't wait for Warduke to show up, he looks fantastic!!!

ps, i won't talk about my mezco stuff ?

  5. I'm guessing Uni and Dungeonmaster for the mini-minimates ... I also hope, since i believe were both in the cartoon, that we see Strongheart and Warduke.

Those two, plus the main toon cast, are characters I have wanted to make for so long. It is a tough one for customizers, since each figure would require a bunch of new accesories and parts.

This line is up there with me, as much as Thundercats and GI Joe. Was hoping for all three since the early days ... 20 years ago at this point!

I'm loving this new age of minimates. I'm happy DST hasn't given up on our favorite little figures. Only a few other properties would get me this pumped... I still hope for Hanna-Barbera, MOTU, Silvehawks and Battle Of the Planets...

GI Joe is in single blister cards, inside a footlocker. Transformers is a simple blister pack.

We considered doing Joe in a blister pack, as well, but the temptation to do carded Minimates for the first time, especially for such an iconic carded brand, was just too great. Hope it doesn't put too many people off the line.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but for any old-school G.I.Joe fan to not want single carded figs, sounds crazy to me. The card art, to me and my brother at least, was all part of the fun. We'd stare at them (front and back) for hours picking out who our favorites were, and who we thought the silhouetted characters could be for the next waves. It was a lot of fun.

We aren't getting a lot of mates at the moment, so i'm perfectly fine with paying an extra ten bucks. These look awesome to me. My only gripe is that the card art isn't in the form of a minimate. I asked DonnyB many years ago if he'd be interested in replicating the card art for me for my Joe customs, because i thought it'd look awesome.

I know I'm happy, and can't wait to see the next few waves and hopefully get a few vehicles down the road!

    Cheers! your pal, Nerv

I was obsessed with the show as a kid and my head nearly exploded when Strongheart made an appearance. I had that figure when I was younger and carried it with me everywhere! But I am more than happy with figures from either line!

Same for me... I always had Him and Warduke closeby, even with my Joes (plus a few super powers figs lol)

I'd love either toon or toyline just as much as i'm loving the Joes!

Oh that's interesting. I am semi-retired from customizing, in part because printing out decals was getting to be a drag. But this may solve that problem. Did you have any trouble with sizing? I still use Luke's old templates and I find they are still accurate for making decal pages.

Sorry to hear you've stepped back from the customizing game HP, you were always one of the greats! :)

Yes, Luke's templates are accurate for sizing.

One drawback I found to the ALPS decals is that they don't store long-term very well. I had done a run with a bunch of customs I planned to do at some later date. When I eventually got around to using some about 8 months later, the decal paper was very brittle and pretty much disintegrated when it hit the water. The guy at the company told me it's a known issue, but can be mitigated somewhat by keeping in a sealed ziplock bag in a reasonably climate-controlled environment (i.e., not my 120º-during-the-summer garage.)

Hey HP and Lobby.... I haven't touched my ALPS in years, and still have a bunch of ribbon cartridges for it. If either of you would like to fiddle with it, I'd be happy to let go of it...

The fourth character has been replaced, and is a civilian. Waiting to hear if it will make the show.

Hmmm. the two civilians that pop into my head would be The Viper (fingers crossed) or Hector Ramirez (who has ties to other shows like Transformers and Jem)

unless its something like a Larry Hama minimate, which would be pretty cool too!

oh damn!  now i'm even more curious.........but awesome!

i wonder if it was one of the 'and knowing is half the battle!' kids.......

That would be awesome... I'd love themed packs like this, or from different episodes, could be cool for the fourth character in each boxset to be some wacky offbeat person who would never be made otherwise.

i believe Hasbro fears a hooded character too closely evokes groups like the KKK, so its ok to have the character be a "terrorist"leader bent on world domination but not a bigot? IDK

What a joke, if this is the reason...

My guess is it is based on the first GI Joe Animated Mini-Series from 1983.

    The Viper?

    hqdefault.jpg

Yes!!! would love the Viper! me and my brother loved this episode and would pretend to be him on the phone all the time, and leave messages as the The Viper, lol!!! an example of a great character from an episode I'd like to see make a 4-pack!

I don't know, I love how Thing's brow fits onto his head. Just works for me, I guess.

I agree with BHM on this. For me, the problem isn't that it is a sculpted headpiece, because 9/10 time it works... The problem is the drastic contrast in color and texture for the head vs. headpiece. The smooth sharp bright color and dark lines of the rock features of his head do not blend well, at all with the oft muddied looking and rough texture of the headpiece. The styles do not match, especially on later versions where 90% of his body is textured, and only face, knees and elbows are smooth. Knees and elbows i can deal with, but the Face/Headpiece has bothered me from the start. Two solutions for me... make full slipover head, or make a smooth headpiece with tampoed rock details (but this only works if the whole minimate is smooth with tampos. We almost had it with the trenchcoat thing, but the hat gets in the way, lol.

  12. hmmm,"comic and Toy line" (specifically not cartoon). I wonder if its gonna be based on something like Tiger Force/Python Patrol or one of the Special Missions comics or maybe a crossover with the properties ... I'm all in for anything, just can't wait for the reveals!

Will future sets be revealed at SDCC?

Not sure if we'll continue to keep the Joes and Cobras separate.

There were discussions about the packaging, and I'd be happy with a simpler format, but I guess we'll see how Series 1 and 2 do.

I absolutely love the old school single figure cardbacks.... i only wished it was minimates art for the characters and not the old style paintings of originals... I still love them, but would like them more the other way. I'm guaranteed to buy at least two sets each to hold onto one carded figure and one to open and play with... I open everything, but to me, these look good enough to stay in package.

any idea when we'll see SDCC images?
