  1. My Holy Grail would have to be centered around two characters - Batman (Terry McGinnis) and the Scarlet Spider. Here are a few pieces that I have in the collection (pictures to follow):

    - Batman Beyond vs Mr. Freeze lamp - this was exclusive to the WB store and extremely tough to find

    - Scarlet Spider Attakus bust - I believe this may have only been released in France and was another one of those tough to find items

    - K-B Exclusive Scarlet Spider and Spider-Man 2099 action figures (MIP)

    - Iron Spider Spider-Man sideshow statue - probably the most money I've ever spent on a statue....

I also believe that I have every Ben Reilly published appearance since his introduction in the original clone saga storyline (Amazing Spider-Man #149-151). The toughest comic to find to complete this collection was the 1995 Marvel stockholders report that featured a brief appearance by Spidey.

EDIT: Photos have been uploaded. Please disregard any signs of dust and the poor lighting reflected in some of these shots. Hopefully, they'll still give a good enough representation of some of the items noted above. You'll notice that I am a big Scarlet Spider and Spider-Man fan. The mates shown on the top shelf is every Spidey mate made so far, with the exception of the Amazing Spider-Man movie mates (on a different shelf) and the Silver and Gold mates.

  2. Wanda's hairpiece looks pretty nifty. So who else is reading Superior Spider-man? I find that to be an incredibly fun book, and I'm really looking forward to the 'mate. I'm hoping we get a NOW Thor too fairly soon.

I've been reading and rather enjoying Superior Spidey. As one of those guys that dumped Spidey after OMD, it's nice to be able to read the book and not feel that I'm reading the adventures of the devil-dealing Spider-Man. Really hoping the redemption arc continues for quite some time and that we begin to see the new persona become the hero he's capable of (sorry, I'm trying to remain spoiler free). I would add that if you're reading Superior, you should probably also be picking up Avenging Spider-Man as it's been pretty spot on as well and has given some rather interesting team-ups thus far.

Really looking forward to adding the Superior mate to my Spidey collection and can't wait for the eventual release of the newest Spidey costume (see the cover for Superior Spider-Man #14 if you aren't familar with what I'm referencing).

  3. Mez-itz has announced a second wave for their DC series, which will include New 52 Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Aquaman as well as Harley Quinn (regular and variant), Black Suit Superman, Blue Lantern Hal Jordan and a mystery figure. Here is a link to the news article:

    http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/main/mezco-announces-mez-itz-dc-universe-2-inch-blind-box-assortment

I don't care for the "blind box" assortment but I will admit to having a few of these figures in my collection. While they aren't minimates, I do like them for another variation of the mini-figure line.

  4. I understand totally that the current set up that is going to be the new comic is no way permanent and it will revert to what we all know in someway to be the norm as spidey goes in the future.

After having this bounce around in my head for awhile I think my problem with what is happening is that I actually feel uncomfortable sharing this vicious spidey with my nephew and have always enjoyed before this letting him read the spidey stuff I get. I have always thought that spidey and peter show good ideals ppl can relate too, as in the power and responsibility bit.

MiniFiend - can I recommend checking out Ultimate Comics Spider-Man (Volume 2)? It picks up the story of a new Spider-Man and has been a pretty strong read overall (the United We Stand crossovers are easily the weakest of the series).

As for this "change", I'm not sure what Marvel is thinking and I don't think the Clone Saga comparisons are even close. With the Clone Saga, we got a character change that brought out a Spidey that was actually a lot more reflective of the attitude Spidey had when he started while managing to give Peter Parker a happy "ending". However, I've always felt that OMD violated everything the character stood for and perhaps this change is reflective of that? Not really sure, and I'm not sure I care enough to find out. I may pick up the first issue or so of Superior, just to see how this "new" Spidey interacts with everyone. On the positive side, I'm absolutely loving the Scarlet Spider and Venom titles, so at least I still have those.

  5. Wow, credit to you youbastards for taking the plunge. I've been a Direct TV customer for many, many years now and consider them to be the best in the industry - often paying far less for more channels than my local cable company can provide. I'm interested to see how your approach works out and if you enjoy the experience. Of particular interest would be sporting events. I'm a big sports fan and often have the channel on ESPN or the local sports channels. It'd be interesting to see if you still have a lot of sports options available with your new setup.

  6. Got my package today! I received two TWD 2 packs, the B&W Dale and the Guts zombie packs, a loose Outback Colossus, a loose Femme Fatals Alice and a 2013 Marvel calendar! Thanks Santa!!!

Still trying to figure out who my Santa is, the note included has me a bit baffled. When I get back home later I'll try to figure it out.

Hmmm.....what does the note say? Someone may be able to help you interpret it.

  7. I'll give Dan Slott this much, that is a ballsy career-risking move, and at least someone is making tough calls and not playing it safe these days. Not gonna bother with it or Superior as i'm not a Spidey fan, but i'm sure proud of him for doing it.

I was more upset with Ultimate Death of Spider-man; Ultimate Pete was so great.

Have you checked out the latest series of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man? I'm loving the Miles Morales character - definitely a throw back to the Spidey tales or yore. Plus, they've continued looking in on some of the supporting cast from Peter's world.

As for #700, I'm a long time Spidey fan and have only picked up a few issues since OMD - all for other characters, none for Spidey (Ben Reilly, Anti-Venom, Venom and Scarlet Spider). As a result, I know I'm not the target audience but this gimmick seems very cliche and overly poor. The Scarlet Spider book has done a fantastic job of giving the world a "darker" Spider-Man and the Flash Thompson Venom fills a similar role. If you're looking for the youthful optimism of the original Spidey stories, I strongly suggest the early issues of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man with the new Spidey or the Blue Beetle comic that was out before the New 52. As for 616, I think the character is tainted. How does one preach "great power, great responsibility" and then make a deal with the devil as soon as things go south? At that point, you've lost any moral principles you claim to have - maybe this new Spider-Man is a better reflection of that premise.

  8. Received my Secret Santa gift in the mail yesterday and was extremely excited about what I found inside. Here's what I received:

    - A vs X Box Set

    - X-Force Wolverine (this is one that has been on my wish list for a long, long time)

    - Venom (SM3)

    - Master Chief (x2 - this is another one that I've wanted for quite some time but don't think I ever found during my visits to TRU)

Thanks to MsMarvelfan for the excellent selection of mates. Upon opening them, I found that my 2 year old son really liked the Wolvie figure and tried to claim him as his own. Thanks again! :)

  9. Add my name to the list of those who want a Noir Spider-Man, preferably in a two-pack with Hammerhead. I'm not opposed to a new 2099 either. Throw Spot in there with him....

I'll add my name to the growing list of Spider-Man Noir supporters. Wouldn't mind an Exiles variant Spidey 2099 mate either.

  10. I dropped ASM on principle because of that crap. The new stuff I check in on occasionally but the whole fact that the marriage was forced in the first place (due to the popularity of the newspaper comic strip) and then forced BACK out of continuity just really persuaded me to ease up on my wallet with one less title.

I mean, it wasn't CHUCK AUSTEN UNCANNY X-MEN level offensive, but every man has his limits, I suppose. I wouldn't be opposed to picking it up again if the right storyline really struck me. Ultimate Comics Spider-Man has been enough for my Spider-fix, for now.

Meanwhile, just preordered my Venom box set since they're popping up on eBay. Yay!

Agree with this completely. I've always been a big Spidey fan but OMD brought an end to collecting the 616 series (with the exception of grabbing the title for other characters on a rare occasion, namely Venom and Kaine). The "Great Power, Great Responsibility" schtick really loses any pull when you consider the main character absolved his marriage via a deal with the devil. After all, how do you root for the guy that preaches about handling his power wisely and then strikes a deal with the DEVIL when things don't go his way. Utter garbage.

Back on topic, really looking forward to this box set and the Flash Thompson Venom, which has easily been one of my favorite monthly reads over the past few months.
