  1. I know for a fact one of the two Obsidian Order dudes shown in the Walgreens wave was the big muscley one. I think he was the one that came with Hulkbuster. (Which would make sense, two big brawlers)

I honestly don't remember vividly which of the two smaller Black Order guys came with War Machine, and which came with Black Panther.

I believe War Machine was a new sculpt, but don't crucify me if I'm wrong, haha.

Falcon, Gamora & Drax didn't really look like anything to write home about to me. Similar to prior releases. Drax looked very similar to his GOTG2 mate, with a different facial expression. Gamora was a little more different, and didn't have the coat.

So wave two from the panel is?

    Walgreens:
    Scruffy Cap & Falcon
Hulkbuster & One of the Black Order Guys (I don't know their names)
War Machine & Another one of the Black Order Guys
    Drax & Gamora

Zach confirmed Wave 2 won't have a specialty boxed set. Black Panther & The Last Black Order Guy was the TRU exclusive set that needs a new home now. It wasn't shown, but Zach did specify it was to be those two. I BELIEVE he said it's already been produced, so it should get released one way or another (not leaving the Black Order incomplete), he was fairly re-assuring about that. I don't know that he'd have specified otherwise. But my memory is fuzzy, so don't quote me on that.

He was actually optimistic that because Specialty didn't have a boxed set for wave 2, they'd probably have an easier time getting the TRU wave redistributed to specialty, since there's a product void to fill there.

    I don't have pics. :P

I feel bad that you typed that all out. I guess you could kinda connect this to you theory, but it completely takes away your first point

Hawkeye is ronin in this. There are set pics of him in a robe and you can see his boots poking out as he walks and they look suspiciously close to Robin's boots. Also the directors have said he's on his own journey in this film and he and antman will be more prominent in A4

Don't, I can knock out a fairly lengthy rant with little to no effort. English teachers love me. My friends who are looking for a concise e-mail to answer a simple question hate me.

  4. RE: Hawkeye...

This is just my personal speculation, but I'm putting a spoiler tag on it anyway incase I'm actually right...

    Spoiler

I'm sure many of us have seen speculation that suggests Avengers 4 may be based on Secret Invasion. That speculation in mind... I feel like it's an obvious conclusion to draw that someone in Infinity War must die and be revealed as a Skrull... the same way Elektra died to set the story up in the comics.

And I can't help but wonder if the general lack of Hawkeye that many have noted in pre-production materials might correlate to the fact that there are things about his role they're trying to keep attention away from. Perhaps he's the "skrull death"

THAT said... it could easily also be one of the more prominent Avengers who aren't expected to return to the franchise, like Cap, but I can't help but feel that if they used one of the top Avengers, it would more or less cheapen the death and leave it feeling inconclusive. And I'm not sure that's what they want to do for those characters. Wheras for someone like Hawkeye... audiences could more easily live with the loose end (and they could potentially always bring the "real" Hawkeye back later, without the need to coax one of the headliners back into their role.)

Even if he's not a Skrull, I still can't help but wonder if his lack of presence is an indicator of his pending doom. He could easily be a "Hedwig" "Madeye Moody" type kill. An early death in the movie, to set the grim and serious tone moving forward into the rest of the plot.

Now completely unrelated to Hawkeye: I'm personally beginning to believe more and more that Black Widow is Veranke, and they're going to re-assign Spider-Woman's plot onto her for the 4th movie. I recall when Spider-Woman became a prominent breakout character in New Avengers, there was a lot of demand for a solo series that never came. I recall that after she was revealed as having been Veranke all along, Marvel finally came clean and said, "THIS is why the solo series never came. We thought it would be a bait and switch to sell fans a title that they didn't know was following an imposter as the star character." ... I can't help but draw a parallel there with the Black Widow solo movie Marvel has been dodging for years. We're only NOW seeing that movie become reality... as we draw close to Infinity War. Many have questioned why it took Marvel so long to make it. What if THIS was the reason. Yet that said... we still know nothing about her solo movie's plot other than it's rumored it could be a prequel. I grant you none of this is hard evidence, but the pieces all fit. She gets revealed as having been an infiltrator as far back as Avengers 1... She's the lead villain in Avengers 4... and then she gets the solo movie which could either explain how she was replaced (in prequel form) or how the "real" Widow re-acclimates and joins a world that sees her as the villain (much like the real Spider-Woman did after returning in the wake of Secret Invasion) OR frankly... the solo-movie could explore both ends of that plot through flashback/present day.

Add to that we have the Captain Marvel movie to flesh out backstory on the Skrulls in general between Infinity War and Avengers 4... and I feel like... the building blocks are all there for it.

Assuming they wanted to keep Veranke the lead villain... Widow is female, she's well known for being duplicitous and very capable of concealing her true nature. Most importantly, she's one of the MCU's original Avengers, which really makes the whole twist feel grander in scope. I think it virtually HAS TO be one of the originals to sell the idea this has been planned from Square 1.

    Anyway I'm rambling...

But yeah... I feel like Hawkeye is gonna die. Lol...

  5. Regardless of how far along they are, I really hope these find a home, and don't go the way of the Ghostrider movie. Even if the sets get re-assigned to a future specialty wave and we have to wait an extra year for them, it would be a shame to tease us with them, and then never see them released.

  6. No, that's definitely Ultimate Warrior. Back in the days before the internet, it was a very common urban legend that Warrior had died and been replaced like 2-3 times.

That said... I feel compelled to ask... because starting with Bret Hart has left room for confusion in my mind, haha:

Will you be focusing more on Classic WWF, "New Generation" WWF, or straddling between the two?

For those who aren't big enough wrestling nerds to know what I'm talking about, classic WWF might typically be considered the "Hogan" era: IE. That would be more Hogan, Andre, Piper, Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, Junk Yard Dog, Sgt. Slaughter, Big Boss Man, etc. The "New Generation" started after WWF had mostly let go old stars like Hogan and Randy Savage, allowing guys like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Razor Ramon, Diesel, etc, to rise to the top.

Bret Hart is one of the few guys who was actually around in both eras, but he was really more of a tag wrestler, nearer to the bottom/middle of the card in the classic era, and didn't become a main event star until they began transitioning to the New Generation. Much the same story w/ Shawn Michaels. But like I said... Bret leaves room for confusion, as his rise into his heyday pretty much straddles the line between the two eras.

ANYWAY I'm rambling... I'm just wondering if we can expect guys like Razor, Diesel... perhaps a bit more modern (purple gloves) Undertaker... or "Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels (not Rocker Shawn Michaels)... or if you'll be sticking closer to the Hogan era?

  7. Found the new wave yesterday... random thoughts...

I like Jackal a smidge better when I remove his bulky pectoral piece. Slims his overall shape down considerably, making him a stone's throw closer to comic book Jackal. Still not overly fond of the extended arms and animal legs... but... he makes a better poor man's comic Jackal with the pecs removed.

I can't tell if Jackal's mohawk is sculpted onto his head, or a separate piece. If it is a separate piece, they laid the paint on mine so thick, that it's pretty much cemented to the head. I don't even see a seam between the two, it just looks like one continuous blob of plastic.

MODOK looks better in real life than he did in the early preview images. This is a decent Modern MODOK minimate. That said... I still prefer the classic look of the MvC3 version overall.

  8. I used to buy Marvel Age a lot, because the quarter bins at my local comic book shop had tons of them. Being that it was more of a Marvel newsletter than an actual comic book, nobody wanted them, but being that I was a young scamp trying to learn about the history of the Marvel Universe, I'd frequently pull them out and say, "I'll buy that for a quarter!"

That said, Forbush Man and Impossible Man made frequent 4th Wall Breaking Appearances in that. I had no idea who either of them were at the time, and they were used in very non-canon seeming ways in those books... but... It makes them feel like a familiar part of my childhood with Marvel, even if I never read an actual... comic book about them. At the time.

You should read the original Old Man Logan! We've made a fewMinimates from it, and it's a great story. She was also in Spider-Verse, I believe, and I think she's appeared in the 616 since then. She's Spidey's granddaughter, and I think Hawkeye's daughter? I forget.

Zach, you're great, and I don't mean to bust your chops, but when you're trying to make a case against the notion that a character is instantly forgettable, it's probably best not to end on a thought like, "She's Spidey's granddaughter, and I think Hawkeye's daughter? I forget."

    lol....

I don't see that happening. The Ghost Rider assortment was tied to the film release. This series isn't a slave to such timing. I'm far more concerned about the Infinity War assortments.

Being that the Walgreens sets are already on shelves, and the specialty ones are imminent, I'm guessing Groot & Rocket at the very least are already manufactured in a warehouse somewhere, and will see the light of day through one avenue or another (possibly even Toys R Us itself, as while plans have been announced to shut down all stores, it's not as if they're shutting down all stores TOMORROW... it sounds like they'll be staggering shut downs gradually over an undefined amount of time. By most reports.)

As for Wave 26 and beyond (Including Infinity War Wave 2)... hard to say without knowing how far along in production they are. Wouldn't surprise me if the plug got pulled. Hopefully it's still early enough for Infinity War Wave 2 to shift gears on whatever the planned assortments are and get all the same figures out there.

The last few waves TRU has had 1 exclusive, while Walgreens has carried 2, and each store had 2 shared sets. Theoretically, if Walgreens was willing to take on 3 exclusives instead of 2... we could get all the same figures we were supposed to originally with only some minor lineup tweaking. But only Diamond knows if such a change would be possible.

OR... I fully admit, they could just get cut and never find a new home, like Fandrall & Hogun. Twice. *Sigh* But I'm trying to be hopeful and optimistic, haha.

Hard to say what makes the most sense given we don't know the current state of Wave 2 behind the scenes (nor its exact lineup)

I'm frankly glad we don't know the lineup, because through not knowing, IF those 2 figures get cut... we won't know what we're missing.

If 2 figures need to get chopped, I'd hope they sacrifice ones w/ Minimal difference like Black Panther or perhaps Vision.

  11. Well the 3 breaking articles I just read that said things along the lines of, "Toys R Us told employees Wednesday that it is planning to sell or close all of its U.S. stores" sure make it sound like it is.

Many however, mention that there's still room for other companies to step in and buy some of the stores to keep them operational... but who knows if/when that will happen.

As far as the current ownership regime it's... sounding pretty done. As much as we'd all like to deny it.

  12. As long as we're criticizing the Infinity Gauntlet, I don't like that it has an overall asymmetrical (in that the stones are not placed symmetrically on the glove) design, but the thumb is centered. His normal hands look better because they have normal thumbs.

Good thing I only wanted Thanos, my iron didn't even come with feet!

That happened w/ my Volstagg, way back in the first Thor movie waves. Believe it also happened with my Elrond, back in the Lord of the Rings waves.

I don't know what sort of factory oversight causes a minimate to get packed without both feet, but it seems to be one of those things that randomly happens 1 in every few hundred.

Much like the old Minimate w/ 2 left arms (Who among us longterm collectors has not met this one a few times through the years?)

  14. Well the article does say, "this is just the first round and not all are ready to show just yet" so PRESUMABLY... when this release was put together... Thor might not have been ready to show just yet.

That said, one does have to wonder when this article was put together, considering I... already own him.

If he's not ready, can I trade him in for a new one when he is? lol

Had a family member finally find them for me at Gurnee Mills while she was on a trip to Wisconsin over the weekend, thankfully. Still haven't seen them in stores myself. Haven't had this much trouble tracking down a TRU set in a long time (I think the Psylocke & Lockjaw set was the last one I never found in stores before this wave, which was some time ago).

Still wouldn't mind getting my hands on a second Chameleon pack to make an MJ. Gurnee only had 1 unfortunately (Multiple of the other 2). Seems the Chameleon  set is scarcer, I'm assuming for that very reason.

Wait, I lied... I just remembered I never found the original Spider-Gwen set either. THAT'S the most recent TRU pack before this one I never tracked down (that said, I at least found that wave, I just kept coming up short on Spider-Gwen. People kept snatching her up. Had to resort to ebay.) ... but before that, pretty sure it was Psylocke and Lockjaw.

A distinction without a difference. If Gunn wants to insist people type out adolescent instead, good luck with that.

I've had about enough of Gunn insisting what I should and shouldn't believe about Groot this week.

  18. Well as long as we're getting all ridiculously tertiary and pushing the boundaries of publishing legality... Marvel made the Beavis & Butt-Head Comic Book. Just saying.

I could go for a wave or two of that.

  19. All four of the current episodes of Toys that Made Us are great. I almost skipped the Barbie episode and I'm SO GLAD I didn't skip the Barbie episode. Even as a male it was very informative and entertaining (and because it was Mattel, had a few bits that tied over to the He-Man episode). Barbie and He-Man were my favorites of the four. But they're all good.

  20. Here's a highly specific one we never got, which annoyed me, which I'm sure we never will get...

A regular, non-flaming, non-levitating cape for Phoenix Five Emma Frost. I don't like that my only display options for her are "Floating and on Fire" or Capeless.

(Naw, I'm kidding, we know they won't)
