  1. I was playing around with my action figures today and I posted this over at Marvelous News...

Do you guys do stuff like this?

I love it when different licenses come together! LOL

    Here’s my little scenario:

Greetings to my Dark Lord and Master, Darth Sidious:

I fear that strange things are happening on Naboo that warrant your attention. Recently, one of our spies witnessed a clandestine meeting between Queen Amidala, many of the accursed Jedi Order, and several unknown beings. Many of the beings were carrying weapons of unknown origin and wearing emblems and coats of arms that have never been seen. What is even odder is that some members of the group seem to be doppelgangers of each other (At least three of the women appear to be the queen herself) and perhaps even come from different time periods in our history (or perhaps future?). Given the danger of this situation, I have not shown these images to anyone. Perhaps you know someone who can identify some of the unknown identities in them? I await and am ready to act on any orders that you in your superior judgment deems fit to give me.

    Your Most Humble Servant,

    Darth Maul

    intercepted message from Kamino:

Obi-Wan Kenobi: With the recent information acquired from our new friends, progress in dealing with the "Clone Trooper Problem" is well on its way. The accumulated knowledge of the probable timelines and their best scientists' cooperation with the cloning facility staff is most satisfactory, Master.

Yoda: Excellent, Master Kenobi. Saved, the Galactic Republic will be, before begun the Fall has.

  2. Chaz - that is VERY nice. I might have to commission one from you :)

Thanks. It was a nightmare to paint the yellow trim on. Yellow doesn't want to go over black and it bled all over the black part. I had to use a sharpie to fix my mistakes, and it isn't perfect...I just chose the most flattering picture to show.

As far as reviewing this figure: Is it worth getting the Giant-Sized box set next year for? I suppose if you are a huge Storm fan like me, it will be (I'd like to get a better version that I don't have to paint)... but the articulation is destroyed by Hasbro attaching the cape to her arms. I have even thought of "freeing" her by clipping the cape at the wrist.

As many soft goods that Hasbro uses on Star Wars figs (some unnecessary), it wouldn't have been hard to fix this figure. Also the heels helped her overall look IMO...not sure why Hasbro gives females from other toylines these but not MU. Another gripe is that her tiara sits too low on her head and makes her widow's peak particularly invasive (it almost comes between her eyebrows!).

Oh well, I'm just glad to get her as this is my favorite costume for her. I certainly paid enough for it!

  3. I bought a classic Storm off of ebay. It must have been thrown out because of quality control. There was a red mark in the hair and the hair was painted an awful dark gray. It's feet were brown as well. Today, I replaced the feet with a Baroness' feet and added a jewel to the front of the cape. I also repainted the hair a flat white. I haven't gotten to the yellow trim yet, I think that will be the hardest part. Here are some pics:

Here it was as it came (the light didn't show the red mark or how dark her hair was unfortunately)

Here is my WIP (I am happy with it so far):

  4. I feel like I have been skipping more and more Minimates releases recently, and this is just another one to add to that long list.

Same here. The only minimates I bought recently were the New Mutants, a Universal Monsters 2-pack, & a Sunfire off of ebay. Why? Because they are new characters that I don't have.

The only thing coming up that I must have is the Magik/Warlock exclusive (Why is it always the TRU exclusives I want?! groan)... and a Lizard would be nice.

BTW: I'm not really hating on this wave. The White Tigers and Hand ninjas are new, and it was time for Iron Fist to show up since he was so hard to find the first time (at least for me!). I also understand that not everybody is an X-Men or Spider-man fan (although surprise! He's in this wave too), but the huge influx of redone characters has made me start focusing more on the other toylines I collect.

Oh well, maybe Wave 39 will be an Alpha Flight wave or Young Avengers wave or something.

  5. One thing I don't really understand is the what is the point of doing vintage style figures of the prequel trilogy? I understand it looks cool but I thought the point was to put new figures on vintage cards. Oh well I do understand that Hasbro banks on selling Star Wars until the world ends so they have to come up with as many different ways to rehash the same things as they can!

Yeah, it's probably what you said. I sold all my true Star Wars vintage figures in the early nineties...little did I know I would start getting action figures again years later. I think the articulation in these figures are so great...I don't mind them putting the prequel characters on the vintage cards as long as that's an excuse to get these better quality figures. :)

I can't wait for the Aayla Secura fig later next year... I'm glad I started getting these. It gives me something to get in between minimate and Marvel Universe releases... and they are much easier to find.

  6. The Vintage Return of the Jedi wave is hitting stores. I picked up all of this wave except for the Endor Rebel Commander (who I just didn't care for).

Finally! A Gamorrean guard for my Jabba display (Dengar is not pleased at being replaced).

This Luke will replace the Bespin Luke. This figure is awfully skinny, though. The face sculpt is new and you can compare it to the Bespin one. I like both face sculpts and can't decide which one looks best.

This R2D2 has a serving tray for Jabba's sail barge, the Khetanna. He also can store Luke's lightsaber but unfortunately, it doesn't fire it out like it did in the movie. :(

  7. Why does Professor X have a giant prune on his lap?

Looking at Thing through the plastic window, there is a lot more wash left on his chest than there is on the pictured version on the back of the box. Hope it doesn't make him look dirty.

A lot of people hate the bloody prune/blanket, myself included. Hopefully, it won't be too hard to remove.

Speaking of the poor paint jobs, that seems to be happening more often. I think I first saw noticed the problem on pictures of Black Cat from the Spider-friends and foes box set (which I didn't get). I wonder if this is some cost-saving process that is causing this. If you run your finger over some of the newer minimates, it even feels slightly different.

Has anyone noticed how even some of the faces have a matte finish now? (example: compare the Jim Lee Jean Grey's face to a classic Phoenix face)

  8. Firestar is an awesome improvement over the official release. It bugged me as well how DST released her wearing her newer mask with her classic costume. Your custom is spot on beautiful.

Thanks! I'm glad I' not the only one who found the previous Firestar a bit annoying. I will have this version displayed with my Avengers and the classic version (when finished) with either Spidey or the X-Men.

Every time a Firestar figure is made (in any toyline), they opt for the original costume and it bugs me, because I found her storyline much more interesting when she was an Avenger. I like your version better... and I'm in love with that Blob! Great work again!

  9. Found a Winter Soldier sitting on the pegs at Target today; if it wasn't for the really splochy paint on the face (it looks half unfinished) he'd be a completely badass figure. Love him either way, and it's great to get such a major Cap enemy, just a little distracting at times.

Two-Face, there is a new Winter Soldier figure coming out next year in the Captain America line that blows the current one away. I think there are some pics of it over at MarvelousNews.com in their coverage of the recent NYCC. It has way more detailing and a better body type, IMO.

  10. I got a Yellowjacket in the mail today. Of all of Hank Pym's incarnations, this was probably my favorite. When Pym wore this outfit in the seventies, he was losing his mind and beating his wife. On second thought, maybe I should have hated him, but I was 9 when I first picked up an Avengers comic and I just thought the outfit was bizarre and kinda cool.

I do have a few gripes about the fig. The right "wing-thingie" is slightly warped on my fig. Also, I had wanted him to hold my Secret Wars Wasp, but his hands won't hold anything. I found it odd that they included a small version of his Ant Man incarnation instead of a smaller version of the same costume. By the way, like Wasp, Ant Man will NOT stand up on his own. He looks a little slim to me as well, I suppose I'm just used to seeing him beefed up in recent years as Giant Man and Goliath.

I do like the paint job. The yellow has a metallic sheen and he stands out next to the other Avengers. Despite the flaws, I'm glad I got him. This is what I envision Hank wearing.
