  1. Very sad news indeed.

I have to admit, when news of this first made it across the pond, reports were very sketchy, and I remember saying it sounded like some sort of really poor taste viral marketing or publicity stunt (I had no idea where the reports had come from, and neither did the daytime tv folk... it just felt suspicious).

Only saw the online reports later, haven't been able to stop thinking about the incident and the poor victims all day. Feels like another world.

  2. I've been in a bit of a daze since seeing it. Not sure if it was a masterpiece, or entirely redundant.

Got all teary as well. I definitely thought it was really detached from the other 2. No doubt it was emotionally involving, if a little predictable... I'm not exactly in a hurry to see it again.

also... Blake seems like a character who could get Coulsoned, and end up in the comics. Think I'll be trying to come up with the best QC recipe tonight, so... any ideas would be cool.

  3. Please please please do Godzilla right, please.

Love the bit in, I think, Final Wars, when Zilla turns up and the Japanese guys start laughing, 'hey, thats the thing those stupid Americans thought was Godzilla! Hahaha!' ... then the big guy just beat it in seconds.

  4. Still seems good for the ol bleeding eyed Bond villain as that dark elf fella thats being discussed.

Problem is that he had to drop out because of the Hannibal TV series he's doing. :'(

    Ohhhh, really?

Definitely a shame that, kid has his priorities all wrong!

  5. We all know movie releases are usually accompanied by a comic wave or box set for the character. You've got to think at very least one of Falcon or WS would make it in if they did similar for Cap 2.

re: casting... isn't he the guy that was being heavily linke with the Panther role? Never heard of him myself, and I've seen the Hurt Locker

  6. Order... IN! wasn't going to miss these guys, now, when is NYCC?

Luke, like you suggested, I asked for these guys to ship with my other SFCC order in the order comments box just now... does that been there will be a partial refund or something? If they sjip together then thats lovely, but please just keep tue postage saving... still owe you from the Maria Hill issue.

  7. just seen this Aapje, horrible news, I'm sorry, having a think now...

have had a quick look, and found the following

London Eye Hostel; I'm sure it isn't what you had in mind when coming over here, but it seems they have room available from about £20 a night, per person. It is close to Lambeth North tube station

    London Eye

this is their telephone number... 020 7582 3088

I'm sorry I can't be more help, living in a city does mean one doesn't have very good knowledge of the hotels. I will try and look some more. How long are you supposed to be staying in the city?

  8. Wetherspoon's :P Nuff said !

Do go to a Whetherspoon pub, have a burger and an ale.

So we can assume that if the UK meetup ever happens, that it will happen in a Wetherspoons

oh dear, I did used to work at a 'spoons... perhaps I should remember how to spell the name.

Right, a few quick ideas Aapje... sorry I'm late, I've been working non-stop, so hope you still have internet access over here.

You can easily blow a day or so taking in the main 'sites', going from Parliament Sq (with the Houses of Parliament), up along Whitehall (to see Downing Street?), Trafalgar Sq and Piccadily Circus...

... from Piccadily, you're only a 5 minute walk from either Oxford Street (which is long, and busy, and full of huge chain stores) or Leicester Sq (which in fact has a very decent Wetherspoon pub, 'The Moon Under Water'. I do recommend). There are also a lot of street vendors near Leicester Sq, that do large Chinese, Indian or Pizza portions for a decent price (these are, of course, our national dishes!)

...both of which lead to the Shaftesbury Ave (the Theatre district), which is where you will find Forbidden Planet. You're best of asking folks for directions to the Shaftesbury Theatre, as it is across the road. This is pretty much the only place you'll find minimates, I'm afraid, and it will all be old stuff.

As for cheap food, on a week day, Pizza Hut does an all you can eat buffet for about £6 (last time I went, anyway!), it really is great value... and they're everywhere up in town.

I do recommend the London Eye, have been up once and thought it was certainly worth the money. I realise you mention you're on a bit of a budget, and it will cost approx 40-60 euros a person. That's a lot to me, but if it is a special / 'once in a lifetime' occasion, then I can certainly think of worse things to spend it on.

Talking of cheap, we do museums very well, if I do say so myself. The following are all wonderful places you could spend a whole day (along with the nearest tube station)...

Science Museum & Natural History Museum (South Kensington)

    Imperial War Museum (Lambeth South)

Tate Modern (Southwark, or London Bridge if travelling overground)

    British Museum (Holborn)

... all of which are completely free, and will be well signposted from those stations. South Kensington also has the Victoria & Albert and Madam Tussards, I believe... but both are rather expensive.

If you have any questions, I'd be happy to help.

  9. Its the only place I know of, and they are very pricey indeed (I went there in the last few weeks, all they have arr Thor movie stuff, Shadowlands and X-Force box sets... I may have forgotten something). Still work going to, its near Shaftsbury Ave, I believe... 2mins from Piccadily Circus and Tottenham Court Road.

I'm a Londoner, born and bred. Do go to a Whetherspoon pub, have a burger and an ale. I'm knackered and off to bed, but will have a think and post some cool cheap options later tomorrow.

  10. Glad its going down well, absolutely loved it. Near enough perfect for me... tone, chemistry, character looks, etc. Spidey is my no.1 superhero, and this really impressed me. Even liked the Lizard, who was my only initial worry.

Stay after the credits, of course... real wtf moment, which I'm sure we'll discuss soon enough.

Got to agree with yb, forgotten most the music already, and didn't care about Pete's parents, or Uncle Martin's death... but did like how Peter developed as a result of the former. This was not a Parker I'm used to, but was perhaps more real and likeable than his comic counterpart even.

Both Osborns have to be a cert for the next film. Would love to have a spoilered chat, but can't seem to get those tags sorted on my phone!

Do Sony have Kingpin on their license? I forget who made Daredevil.

Could certainly be interesting to see how Spider-Man's presence has affected the rest of New York, namely the primt media... and organised crime.
