  1. Has anyone in Illinois spotted them?

    Not yet.

I found them in Orland Park last week. They had everything but kurt and besty.

I found them at the TRU on 79th and Cicero in Bridgeview. They had plenty of them.

  2. I suppose it's a little of both, buyers remorse and having to have a complete collection including things that I don't like. I just get a certain personal satisfaction of having a complete collection. I've collected other toy lines before which have come and gone, and it's nice to have all of them and know that it's complete. Knowing there's nothing left to buy, no exclusives, no battle damage variants, etc. It's a good feeling. Yes I am going to buy these minimates, despite the fact I hate them, because I don't see any other way around it. If that sounds crazy, it probably is. Collecting minimates or anything else for that matter is an addiction and I definitely have a problem.

After all the money I spent on these, I think I should complain at least once in a while. I can't be expected to love all of them can I? :P Just expressing my opinion, that's all.

I'm not trying to win anything, and I could give a s#it about internet respect. As you can see I've been a member of this board for years, but have barely posted. I was merely stating a fact that this is the way I collect minimates. I only say something when I think it's worth saying and I think my opinion is just as valid as anyone elses.

Don't get me wrong though, I love minimates. Out of all the different toy lines I've bought over the years, they are by far my favorite. In general, DST puts out more good mates than bad ones.

I just really... don't like repaints. I'll take a thousand different variations on spider-man, but repaints just aren't my cup of tea.

  3. Normally I might agree, but I actually dig some of the repaints from this videogame. I actually like the Stealth Iron Man more than the regular version (he'll stick out more than the 500 other gold and red Iron Men I own), and I have no need for another "regular" looking Deadpool, but the orange version looks kind of neat IMO. Others have expressed interest in the bulky Red Hulk that you can think of as another character entirely. And it isn't like we aren't getting new figures at SDCC in the Thor and FF packs. These are just lagniappe in my opinion. If they weren't released, we wouldn't be getting more new figures. We just wouldn't be getting these.

I'm usually happy with new minimates, don't get me wrong, but repaints are just the laziest product for a toy company to produce. As a completist collector the one thing I hate the most is after buying something and looking at it and thinking, "I don't even want this." Maybe i'm just further expressing my disdain for the poor execution of the "alternate costumes" in the actual MVC3 game.

  4. I picked up the Molecule Man/Spider Woman and Angel/Warpath sets on my lunch break.

I was lucky enough to pick up a second set of the Molecule Man/Spider Woman set, and an extra Wolverine Origins BD Wolverine/Gambit as well.

Is anyone willing to trade either of these sets for a WW2 Wolverine/Final Battle Deadpool?

  5. If anyone still wants to trade I only need the X-3 Jean Grey variant and the Avengers 2 dvd Cap.

BTW I live in Chicago and they had 4 packs in both FYE's (which aren't even a mile apart from one another) I might check another FYE which is about 3 miles from my house tomorrow and see if they have any.

There are FYE's in Chicago?! Where?

    Yeah, no kidding...

After I hit the comic books store to get the Spider-Man Moviemates (and I got the variants! Woohoo!) I went hunting for these two...

There's one at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, that's the only one I know about. I checked it today at about 11 am, and they had zombie packs, the 24 exclusive, lots of misc Star Trek, DC & Battlestar Galactica, but nada as far as Hobgoblin and Scarlet Spider.

Of course... Smackman said he's in Chicago, and he also said he cleaned out at least two malls of every one they had... and being that woodfield is the biggest, most well-known mall in the Semi-Chicagoland area... maybe he's to blame for my misfortune. *Glares Menacingly*

Woodfield is a little too far for me. I went to the FYE in Chicago Ridge mall and the one just a block away from it on 95th and Ridgeland.

Also, thanks to you guys I only need one more minimate to complete my collection. If anyone has the X3 Jean Grey variant to trade, I have a fresh brand spankin new hobgoblin/scarlet spider 2 pack for trade. ;)

  6. If anyone still wants to trade I only need the X-3 Jean Grey variant and the Avengers 2 dvd Cap.

  7. I bought each and every single one off the shelf from 2 different fye's. If anyone needs one, I'm willing to trade. Here's what I still need:

    Avengers 2 DVD Captain America

    X3- Jean Grey Variant

    Blue Suit Professor X

If anyone's interested send me a pm.

  8. The Ultimate Avengers Cap has a different facial expression.

I almost forgot, in the riot spider-man/spider-woman target set, is the spider woman a different repaint? I heard this one was different as well...

  9. Okay, so that clears things up a bit. Thanks a lot for the replies. I also should have mentioned I only collect the marvel and DC mates. oops... I saw a pic of the Ultimate Avengers Iron Man. That's too subtle a difference to be considered a variant to me. I suppose the only ones I need are the blue suit professor x and Ultimate Avengers Cap then.:)

    Thanks again!!

We had a thread about this once, but I'm not sure where it went. *cues someone with link available*

Best of my recollection, the character variations from the numerous rereleases via retail outlets includes:

The before mentioned Professor X, Iceman, and Captain America.

Ultimate Avengers 2 Iron Man with more detail lines on his legs.

Dark Phoenix with darker shades of red.

Ghost Rider with different shades of fire (normal release and TRU 10-pack release)

Mr. Fantastic with and without C3 feet (normal release and TRU 10-pack release)

Hulk with slightly different tampo design and color shades (Ultimate Avengers 2)

Giant Sized Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, and Cyclops with C3 feet (Target)

Darktide Wolverine, Cyclops, Magneto, and Juggernaut with new facial expressions.

One could argue that the Marvel Knights Daredevil and Ghost Rider are repaints, but I consider them separate figures as much as I consider New Avengers Captain America different than regular Captain America.

Basically, the only true variants are the Darktide figures, the Ultimate Avengers Cap and Iron Man, Target Iceman, and Target Professor X. The rest are simple paint variations or updated parts.

  10. I'm trying to complete my minimate collection and I'm only a few short. I just recently found out that there is a blue tinted iceman variant. I know about the variation of Cap included with the avengers 2 dvd and the blue suit professor x target exclusive. Are there any other repaints/variations besides these 3??? I'm not talking simple differences like darker paint applications, but actual varaitions that make the figure legitimately different.
