  1. I am a completist. I have every minimate produced in numbers greater than 500(i.e. I do not have Gold and Silver Spitter-man). I have many of the slight variants such as the SF2 TRU Variants and the single pack SF2. Until about a week ago I had 4 holes in my collection now it is down to 1 pain in the arse BB.

  2. Yeah, if you look at the large image this version seems to have some distinct differences.

-Yellow eyes instead of Toy Fair green.

-Skin seems to be a dark silvery metallic instead of the scaly green of Toy Fair.

-The teeth seemed to be painted gold.

-Lower jaw seems to be missing (or maybe opened wider?)

I'm not really sure what's going on with the leg. I'm not really sure it is a leg. I wonder if this sample got a bit manhandled and came apart in the bag. But I can't seem to match that 'leg' to a part on the Toy Fair version. Curiouser and curiouser.

    *EDIT*

Ah, the pattern on the 'leg' looks a lot like the butt of one of Cable's guns.

The armor looks black. And I concur with the Cable gun observation.

  3. Do not know if it has been mentioned before, but the hands on the figures are also the old design. The newer hands have had a more pointed peg end with a ridge (very phallic) and the hands are sharp. The older hands had a blunt peg with a smooth shaft (not as phallic) and rounded hands. Also Doc Oc's tentacles will attach. You just have to be forceful. I took the fat suit off and put my thumb inside then pushed the tentacles in. I only really had trouble getting one in. If they keep popping out, it is because they have not been pushed in all the way. The socket is there it just takes some coercing.

  4. I used to have a policy of having one extra of every mate that came out since I started. I have since decided that this could not go on as I have so many and am currently in the process of moving house, and have slowly been bagging my loose mates one by one. It is a tedious task that I will hate myself even more for once I have to take them back out. I originally got the extras for trade. Well aside from a single BB mate I have or am in the process of attaining all mates. So what the heck am I going to trade for. Except army builders of course, can never have enough of those.

  5. Maybe I am naive, but when Mattel says that they under-produced because the demand is way higher than they ever expected, I believe them. Sometimes though I wonder if they aren't doing what Nintendo did when the Wii first came out. They purposefully kept production low because it built a buzz about it. This in turn ensured that as soon as they made the next shipment it would sell out. I am sure they know how much they are ticking customers off because of the number of "F#@% You Matty " posts that end up on their facebook wall and in their own forums.

You are correct though the collecting community can be whiny and fickle. You forgot about the huge number that also feel entitled. I am always amazed at the number of 'fans' who bash every product that is put out. For the most part the place has avoided that and I am very thankful that I don't have to go through page after page of gripping about how some little defect has ruined a figure. Yes it happens occasionally but not to the extent that the .org has it happening. If it wasn't for my wife's love of MOTU the fans from the .org would have made me stop collecting.

  6. The deal with production is that it takes 6 months lead time for them to increase production, which means June, which is She-Ra. I know this because I also lurk on the He-Man.org boards. The problem with the line is that if one figure gets over produced it could easily stop the line in its tracks. So they make as many as they think will reasonably sell in a day or two. This way they don't have to pay for extra warehouse space (this is my guess). From what they have said the figures cost a decent amount to make because of the size, detailing, and articulation.

Optikk will most likely still sell fast due to it having a low run number. I am a patient person. I waited 20 years to get toys for MOTU that were this kick ass. If I have to wait another 9 months to get a figure I never thought I would get 'oh darn'.

  7. Just FYI for you guys wanting Mossy. Matty has already confirmed they are reissuing him. So, yes, he sold out in no time but he will be back in a few months. If you guys have facebook it is fun to laugh at the people who get soooo upset about not getting a figure that has already been stated to be on the list to be resold.

  8. I just got an email from Reideen with only a link inside of it. Anyone else get this? I haven't touched it due to the fact that emails like that are often viruses. But not having heard from Reideen in so long I don't know if he would respond.

  9. Just a heads up the Skeletor v. Luthor 2 pack and the He-man v. Superman 2 pack are now in the stores.

EDIT: If anyone finds these and has no interest in the Masters figure, I would happily pay the better part of the cost for either Skeletor or He-Man.
