  1. Black Panther and Daredevil had a history of team-ups back in the early 70s. BP was one of the first hero's to know Matt Murdock's identity. So they do have some connection, although it hasn't been brought up, and BP hasn't been in a DD comic in about 35 years.

But yeah, this is a pretty awful gimmick. Daredevil was consistently one of Marvel's best titles, month in and month out. It benefitted from being on the fringe of the Marvel Universe. Now they got a new editorial team, and they've made the Daredevil comic crap iand even gotten rid of the main protagonist in just 12 issues. Thanks Marvel.

  2. I love the jetpack configuration but it does look a little goofy with the clip separating the chest and crotch pieces like that.

Oh, I flipped the glider around so that the clip went between his head and shoulders. The drawback to this is that the helmet and chest armor have to be take off, but I thought it looked pretty cool:

(yeah, that's my toaster he's in front of, I was hungry at the time of that picture)

  3. I picked up the three vehicles at TRU today for $11.99 each. Weren't the BSG Viper and Cylon Raider around $17.99, or something really high? These didn't seem like too bad a deal at that price. My first thoughts:

The Terminator HK is pretty fun. The treads on it are fake, and it doesn't move too much, but it looks pretty cool, and the Endoskeleton Terminator can fit inside of it to "drive".

The "Time Machine" is what it is. Nothing too exciting other than it being a squished DeLorean. It comes with stickers, which give it some good character, although the ones on the inside almost require you to take the toy apart to get them on well. They do have instructions on where to put them, unlike the BSG vehicles. The Marty is pretty good, for those who missed the first boxset. I'm not in love with it, and if anyone really needs a BSG normal Marty, PM me and we can work something out. Also, in the set, Marty came with extra hair and hands? I guess this is something from the packaging of the Radiation Suit Marty.

The MAX jet is the star of the three. Maybe it is because I had the lowest expectations, but I am blown away with how awesome it is. The plastic quality is really good. The jet seats two minimates, and you can rearrange the wings to make an awesome jet pack. I like the pilot a lot, he's very secret-agenty, but wish we had some generic SHIELD soldiers to strap in this thing. I'm definitely going to pick up another jet, so you can combine to make the bigger vehicles or extra jet packs. This vehicle came with stickers too, but half the sheet is made up of logos to put on minimates to make your own MAX team! Very cool. If this is the future of minimates, I'm in.

I'll get some pics up tomorrow if no one else has by then. Overall, this is an awesome (first?) wave of vehicles. Well worth it at 12 a pop too. My only negative is that we won't be getting some of the iconic Marvel stuff. I'd love to get a Ghost Rider Cycle, Fantasticar, or a Quinjet in this style.

  4. Really liking the Mole Man and Atlantean Soldier! Even the Torch looks awesome.

Namor and the Thing I can't get too excited about..Sue Storm was needed though.

Still a very cool wave. I've been getting more pumped about the TRU releases lately more than the normal LCS waves.

  5. Here is a link.

So far, I'm pretty underwhelmed on the Marvel stuff they are showing. A Heroic Age box set, AOA box set, Captain America through the ages set (although the block of ice is sweet).....and series 37.

Universal monsters and the Max line can't get here soon enough though.

  6. Now I've got my hopes up for a SDCC Inhumans box set. It works perfectly: pack Medusa, Karnak, Gorgon and Triton in the 4-pack. Then later on, follow up with a Human Torch/Crystal 2-pack (since they seem to be rolling out FF members).

That's got to be the plan. I feel like Columbo solving a mystery.

  7. It says Warpath will round out previously released sets...since we have X-force Wolverine and X-23, I'd think this Warpath will be black and silver also. So, it's a recolor of the TRU Warpath.

I'm really looking forward to Lizard, but the rest of this wave isn't too exciting. Prof X could be OK. I've already got 4-5 Things, and Doombot will have to be pretty different from Dr Doom for me to like it.

Yeah, I'll probably still buy the whole wave though.

  8. I don't have this set yet and am waiting for my preorder. But is looks like BC has the same problem Lady Loki had, the color on th chest block is chalky compared to the head piece. It's hard to tell from the picture, but does she look like she has a tan?

I just compared the two. Lady Loki is a little off between face and chest, where the chest is a little more chalky. It's pretty acceptable. BC is a huge contrast in color, mainly because the minimate's face is a little tan, and the chest color is a light shade of gray. The two colors don't even remotely match.

I'm painting Vulture's wings as I type this. I'll post some pics with my repair work once complete.

  9. Wow. With the lines on the face and whatnot, that Spidey looks genuinely horrible.

Wow, I didn't even notice the lines on his face until I saw the close up. The blue base of the torso is what bothered me: the flesh tone isn't thick enough to keep the blue from bleeding through.

I e-mailed DST about Ock's arms. I didn't have the back part of the bubble. :( Would heating up the pins that go into Ock's back help them go in?

  10. Where were the Doc Ock's tentacles in the packaging? I don't think I could have missed them.

Attached are a couple of quick pics. I actually like the Doc Ock, but don't have the arms, of course. The Spidey I didn't really care about. Black Cat's skin tone is a head scratcher. Her chest must be grey from all the chimney sweeping she's been doing. Vulture's wings are an odd color, and I can't get his white collar to center just right, it keeps sliding around.

    So, yeah, disappointing set.

  11. Wow....I'm completely floored by all the stuff we've been shown. Tons of new licenses.

The SWAT, Firefighters and Pirates are very welcome additions. Universal Monsters was probably overdue, and good to see them at last (hope we get them all). Father's Day....is....well, I don't know what to think. I like the creepy little kids though.

My only disappointment is that, other than the giveaway, there was no real news of Battle Beasts, which I was looking forward to. Oh well, maybe something is still cooking for SDCC.

  12. Wish Black Panther's slip piece wasn't so dang big, though, or had the eyes printed closer together as cesium says.

I wish my Black Panther had it's face painted on straight (or ears molded straight)...

    4116233255_2ee19ce6b6_o.jpg

My Back Panther had the same problem as storm 1:08's had. Hopefully DST will have extras with the face painted on correctly.

Huh. For what it's worth, the ears on the BP I got are fine so they are not all like tat. I still hate the eyes though.

  13. After looking at Glantern's pics, I'm convinced its not just the Black Panther I got....the eyes are off. The one on the left is higher than the one on the right.

Man, I had high hopes for this one too. :(

  14. I'm really not liking the Black Panther minimate. His cape is just too big. It gets in the way of his hairpiece and his mask, and it's hard to pull his head off with it on there. It also restricts his shoulder movement too much. He does look OK without it, but something about his mask isn't quite right....the eyes are too far apart or not even or something. Also T'Challa has a big crotchpiece.

Moon Knight is incredible though! This is how you do a minimate with a cape. It doesn't get in the way, and looks awesome! He has a belt, instead of a giant crotch, and you can store the crescent-arangs he has on the belt (with a little work). This is my favorite of both new waves.

The 90s Storm is pretty amazing too. The hairpiece is spot on, and the paint is a metallic pearl color.

Daredevil is kind of OK. Nothing really wrong with it, just a bit boring. The billy club pieces are nice though.

I also picked up Scorpion, who rocks. The tail is really well done, with a backpack piece like Angel's. It has a ball-and-socked joint in the middle, but only pivots horizontially on mine.

  15. Well gee...thanks for that. <_<

Seriously, you can't honestly be happy we're getting SELENE in the middle of this awesome wave, can you?? Her only connection is being the second Black Queen; an updated Emma, or even a King, would have made more sense than her. AND are time-accurate with Black Jean. I'm sorry, if i went too far, but she's a dumb idea for the wave, and i'm sticking too that.

Selene and the Hellfire Guard are actually my favorite out of this whole wave. I grew up with the 70s/80s X-men, so my definitive versions of all of these characters is already out (GSX Cyclops, Secret Invasion Beast and Phoenix), so the rest of the wave is essentially duplicate costume variants. I'm one of those guys who likes having characters we never had before. Although I will give you that the 90s costumes were popular versions of these characters, I'd have liked a few more new faces. Just my 2 cents.

  16. Got mine a couple of days ago. As far as promo mates go, this one is pretty sweet.

But yeah, 1000 minimates seems to be enough to feed our little subculture, for the most part. One one hand, minimates are still obscure enough that everyone who wants one badly enough can eventually get one. On the minus side, some minimates still aren't very widely available. Oh well.
