  1. Yes, it is a shame someone not be named got well, let's call it a little greedy and dipped, double dipped and triple dipped into the proto pile - or save from the trash - depending on who you listen to. Either way that and some other shady behavior definitely locked down the gate. Shame really because if they are getting trashed, it would be a true crime.

  2. Hey guys. Long time no see. If this thread needs to be moved, please do so. Not sure where to post it.

I have been lucky enough to see so many first shot minimates they have unfortunately become numb to me. I am talking about countless trips to cons, toy fairs and the NY DST showroom and even the AA office before that.

I have become spoiled by most standards.

But I have also become curious. As an avid collector of far too many toy lines I appreciate the collectibility of "prototype" toys. I know while all of it is hard to come by and can be rather expensive, some toys lines can be particularly hard to get stuff from.

How much minimates prototype stuff is there out there? I have been curious out of all those countless hand painted first shots, how many made it out to collections and how many just hit the trash.

I am not asking anyone to out their what they may have in the collection if they don't want to. Just a general idea.

But in the spirit of sharing, I have one. A wave 8 Gaijin Wolverine II. Looks pretty much like the final version but has no claws.

  3. Hey there - sorry to start another Battle Beast thread but there was a request for pics from me and I didn't want them lost in the 10+ page thread. I hope no one is offended.

    Anyway on with the show:

First a couple in and out of package shots

Next some more out of package pics

Now a side by side by side comparison with a Battle Beast and another Minimate

At first I thought this was Battle Beast #15 Grusome Gator but now I am leaning towards Laser Beast #112 Dino Gator - I just didn't even think about that one until I pulled them out for the pics.

And finally just a goofy pic for some fun

The figure is a little cumbersome with all the add attachments to the green blank but I couldn't be happier for the return of the Battle Beasts!!!

  4. I took a bit of a hiatus because San Diego Comic Con wore me out. That show is a little too much - too many people, too many lines, too many exclusives. So now I am back and I am going to post a few reviews of some of the exclusives I picked up while I was there. First up is the GI Joe Combat Heroes Snake Eyes and Timber preview figure set. The review can be found here.

  5. Chuck explained at the Minimates panel that they had to switch to a new plastic to comply with new UK and CA laws that legislate what can be in the plastics so they are safe for kids. I forgot the specific item that can't be in the plastic anymore.

Phthalate is perhaps the chemical 'hinted' at. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/10/15/...=Health_3366238

Phthalate softens plastic & is perhaps used in the accessories in 'Mates rather than the figures themselves.

Yeah, that's what he said. I couldn't remember the wrod. I am sure he is said that is why the minimates themselves feel different. Did anyone else here go? Maybe they can remember better. I was drooling at the time because the Attack of the Show panel was next in that same room and I was dying to see Olivia Munn.

That and I was so happy to see Digger. I haven't seen him in years. I didn't know he was finally coming back to the States for SDCC.
