  1. These two minimates I could not find on Ebay or google shopping ANYWHERE... so, clearly, very rare... does anyone know how much these two go for?

You Prick ,why don't you just ask "How much should I sell them for?" :Cock:http://cgi.ebay.com/Marvel-Minimates-Black...1QQcmdZViewItem

Damn. I'll certainly reconsider my thoughts of bidding on ANY of your auctions. Taking advantage of members here is not going to get you any karma points in the long run.

  2. My interpretation of this has been that the list you get is an idea for what that someone wants, but it is only a very rough guideline, and that "Santas" should not necessarily feel obligated to send anything that is on that list at all. This is a game of "giving." We should give what we feel is appropriate.

For instance, on my list, I put the main Minimate wants of mine at the moment, but some of them aren't dirt cheap or extremely easy to find. But, I would not at all be offended or upset if I didn't get any of them. In my opinion, it is the idea of a fellow board member being thoughtful and friendly that makes this a fun kind of "game," not whether they give you the stuff you ask for. It would be nice, I'm sure, for someone to send you something that you truly "want," but if you don't, so what? This is just a fun little thing to do.

    Is this perspective wrong Reideen?

No, I think it is entirely up to the person. My list for example is extremely broad. (Sorry to whomever got me. :)) I listed many of my likes but nothing really specific because I'm more interested in what the sender will come up with than looking for a particular item.

Others are very specific on what they're looking for. IMO, if you can/want to fill those specific needs, great. If not and you want to go out and find something else - something this person has talked about liking in their posts or whatever - then that's up to you.

Since I have about as little a talent in customizing as is humanly possible, I tend to pour over the person's posts looking for hints at what they want, in addition to their want/have list and whatever they've sent in their wish list. It's worked ok for me in the past but may not be everyone's cuppa.

    Does that help?

  3. I would also suggest you talk to your local comic shop to see if you can buy them by the bag if you want a large number of these. Mine was extremely reasonable and more than willing to order as many as I wanted. I don't think I've got as many as BHM, but IIRC I got 2 bags full...

  4. It is probably the time for most people doing the Secret Santa '08 to update their Want/Haves being a bit more specific perhaps ;)

I completely agree with you. Out of the few things on my persons list, I can only find one in stores, and that one item is under the $10 range. And my sister doesn't like me using her eBay/paypal, so it's kind of hard for me to find anything.

Edit'd for this thought. My sister and I just now thought of this, but since there is also a price minimum, shouldn't there also be a requirement to how many items the person has to list? Like at least putting 5 or 6 items on their list, 2 of which are available in stores(and not mission impossible to find). Just a thought, I figured it might make things easier for people like me who can't really get online and shop.

Good suggestion. I'll add that to next year's rules.

  5. Sonic on the other hand is potentially the WORST game on 360. Understand that I LOVE Sonic Adventure 1 & 2. S360 however is painfully bad. In fact, unless you are INCREDIBLY gifted at Sonic games it's highly likely that you won't beat the first (official) level. I know you said you already picked it up, but I'm just warning you. I bought it for my son, but it's so incredibly hard that he cannot play it. It might be a good idea to trade it towards something else. If it's for yougsters, my son LOVES Thrillville: Off The Rails.

That's too bad about Sonic. I haven't played a Sonic game since my old Sega days, but my kids enjoy playing as Sonic on Smash Bros. I figured it would be fun for all of us to play together. :( I'm guessing it isn't even worth the $9 I paid for it? (Local Black Friday deal.)

Thanks for the other suggestions guys. I'm really looking forward to the wide range of games that's opened up to me now! :D

  6. Unless its radically different from 2007, 2008 or, hell 2006, just pick the one that's cheapest. I guess my question for you would be how closely do you follow the sport? Do you need updated players/teams/etc or do you just want to play?

BTW Trekker, I own a Wii, Gamecube, PS2 and now a 360. We also have 6 DS's in the house with more games than I can name for all systems. You might say we like video games a bit in our house. :)

  7. Ok. I finally got a 360. (Un)fortunately I don't get it til xmas, so I've got time to stock up on games. I picked up Bioshock, Sonic and it comes with KFP and LEGO Indy.

Should I hunt for the 1st Fable or just pick up Fable 2?

I need to start somewhere on Halo - do I need to go to the beginning or jump to the latest one?

Gears of War 1 or 2?

Dead Rising is on my list to play.

Other suggestions? Am I way off on any of the above games and I should skip some in particular?

  8. Probably my biggest faux pas was assuming that the picture a certain 'Mod' has in his MMV profile info was...... 'her' dressed up  . If you figure out which picture & which 'Mod' you'll probably forgive me ......though I often wonder if he has

Anonymity on-line brings it's own problems.

 Thank you BHM. To be honest, I think the reason that's there is because we were discussing conventions here in the US. Someone mentioned the Chicago Con, which I'd been to and snapped that pic of a cosplayer. (With the wife's blessing of course.) Someone (everyone) liked the pic, so I moved it to my profile.

If its any consolation, you aren't the 1st to think that might be me...

  9. Another company "Character Options" is apparently releasing some lines, despite the rising costs in China

    # Toy Fair 2009 Character Options will be exhibiting forthcoming Doctor Who product lines at the London Toy Fair (28th-30th January). Trade magazine ToyNews reports 2009 lines will include “Collect and Build figures, Time Squad collectible figures, further Classic Figures and the Doctor’s Book of Impossible Things" The Journal of Impossible Things will come with a mini sonic screwdriver. Other new products to look out for, as previously revealed by ToyNews, will include Captain Jack’s Temporal Manipulator. A greater emphasis will be placed on releasing products in the first half of 2009 with new products also released to coincide with the four Doctor Who specials - Thanks Neil

One of the products they're bringing to market are these:

  10. I still haven't got mine... anyone else still waiting?

I had one email bounce back to me. I was on my way to work this morning when I looked, so I didn't have a chance to see who's it was. When I get home tonight I'll double check it and remail to whomever it was.

  11. Thanks mate. Yeah, it's pretty hectic right not. Since the Mrs is finally out of school and working full time, we decided the time was now to get something bigger. :D

All emails have been sent. If you didn't get one, please let me know asap and I'll get back with you.

  12. At this time of year, I wouldn't bother calling them. I was there..last Saturday? looking for a tool bench playset for my youngest. It was on sale 50% off and was something we'd been looking at for a while.

Anyway, since it is a large item, they don't stock them on the floor - you have to take a ticket and go to the register to get it. They were out of the tickets, so we asked an employee to check for us. He was so new, he didn't know how to use the PC to look the item up. I even gave him the item number and he couldn't do it.

A manager we recognized came over (we have 5 kids, so it's always someone's birthday and we're in there all the time) and was able to look the bench up. They didn't have any, but another store across town showed 2 in stock. We asked if she could call and have them hold one. She said TRU policy is to not hold items for guests. (She said 'besides, even when I do call them, they leave me on hold for 30 minutes and then don't know what they're looking for.') We would have to go out there and see if they were still in stock. I asked if they could give us a raincheck - 'no, we aren't giving rainchecks for this item'.

I thanked her for checking and left the store.

Right now, I think the staff at TRU is overworked and underpaid. Be nice if you do go hunting and leave with a smile even if you don't find what you're looking for. Be happy you have a job, a roof over your head and disposable income to spend on minimates. Some folks aren't so lucky this year.
