  1. I am actually at a cross roads. I have deal with several issues concerning my gaming habits. The most important was achievements and I've come to the conclusion that I am not a fan. I have been playing more and more on my PS3 and I really like it. Before I would only buy games for my 360 based on achievements but I had to take a long look and realize that I was spending money and time to earn a score that means.....wait for it........NOTHING!! So, I have offically decided that I'm switching teams. From now on I will only play Cross-Platform stuff on my PS3. I actually came close to just getting rid of my Xbox all together, but with Reach Fable III and all of my Arcade stuff I realized quick that was just a stupid idea, lol. But for now, I'm a Playstation Fanboy who happens to own an Xbox 360. Just thought I'd share that.

With that being said, I'm going tonight to pick up Uncharted, inFamous, and Little Big Planet. neo

Ummm... Neo, Trophies on PS3 are exactly the same.

On another note, I have a friend who struggled with the same thing. He did sell his 360, but eventually bought one again. I guess it just boils down to the question:

Why are you gaming? Is it to accomplish or earn something? Cause then there are several other things you can do that are more worthwhile.

If it's to have fun playing a game, just play. I mean, you can turn notifications off and forget about achievemebts completely.

For me achievements only matter when they involve playing the game in a new and interesting way. Halo 3 and ODST have perfect examples of this. "Annual" for instance in Halo 3 tells you to play 4player campaign on the last level on legendary with "Iron skull" activated... And to finish the level in Ghosts.

It tells people a fun new way to play the they probably would've never thought of.

It's the same with ODST. "Deja Vu" requires you to play though the last level on mongooses with infinite rockets in 4 player on legendary with Iron skull on.

Perfect examples of how achievements can encourage and get the word out on fun new ways to play.

In the end though, it's really up to you. If you actually want to go to PS3's camp, do it. You don't need an excuse... And as far as excuses go achievements are existent on both platforms, so that one doesn't make a whole lotta sense.

  2. I dunno, I guess I feel those 2 need to stay dead. Kinda like Ted. Current DC is built on certain deaths and as great as some of those characters are it would be a step backwards to revive them.

As for the Titan... You're not referring to the one who died in BN, are you? Cause that individual is among my least favorite DC characters.

Finally Abner... The Polkadotman? Cause I agree there. :D

  3. Groundhog, I agree with Miry.

I'm not sure which crossovers you picked up. Personally I would skip Batman, Superman & a couple others, but the story itself was really solid and we got to see the DC reboot that people have wanted for quite some time. Like Miry, I was waiting for 2 Flash Rogues to be rez'd that weren't, but life goes on. :P

I was surprissed how many of the 12 I was indifferent about.

Back to some of the controversy we had a couple months ago:

Looks like our "kill count" wasn't as high as we thought it would be. Sure, a hand full of characters died, but in the end they brought back more people than they killed. :P

Also, most of those who were killed ended up being characters who were just filling the shoes for others who had died :( in the past. Off the top of my head only one character died who is really unreplaceable. :(

For those of you trying to figure out who I'm talking about: They were killed by Jean Loring/Eclipso/Ugly Zombie ex-wife.

The two Rogues I would've liked to see return were 1)The only man to trick the Devil and survuve.

    2) Someone killed by Captain Cold in Blackest Night... Which would've made his death pointless, I know... I just thought there was a lot of unused potential there.

  4. And please put LOTR wave 3 up for pre-order.

Well, he can use Eowyn's hair that's shown in this auction. I can confirm it's genuine since that's where I got my Eowyn from.

Wait, seriously? People HAVE Eowyn... Like there are more than one out there?

How did I miss this info?

Did more of wave three leak?

  5. With music games at the end of their lifespan, someone needed to do something revolutionary to save them. Most people, of course expected Harmonix to step up and change it, since they had done it twice already. (First by CREATING the genre with Guitar Hero and second by evolving it with other instruments in Rock Band) They officially announced RB3 yesterday and we know they plan on making this the game where the change the genre again... But they haven't announced how that is yet.

Surprisingly, a new competitor also announced their game yesterday... And, well, it certainly has the ability to reinvent the genre without Harmonix' say.

    http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/107/1075750p1.html

Poor Activision. :( Until these other companies figure out what happening with music games they can't rip them off and cash in on the idea.

So, thoughts? A game that will actually teach you the guitar?

  6. Well, BN7 hit stands yesterday and OMG!!!!!!

I'm not sure I really feel comfortable talking about it here lest spoilers leak out.

Long story short, if you aren't reading Blackest Night... You should be.

We all knew there'd be a white lantern who'd step up and save the day at the end of Blackest Night... But I don't think anyone could've guessed who it is! All I'll say is it's not Hal.

Other than the obvious spoiler, thoughts on the issue?

I've heard some people upset about Trieye being in the big 2 page color lantern spread, since he's, y'know... dead.

I think the book was fairly solid.

We found out what the Guardians big secret was and the pages with Lex were lots of fun.

  7. You call "The Battle for Bludhaven" an event?

Miry, I've gotta call you on your statement:

You're looking for things to complain about. Off the top of my head the only major DC crossover I can think of that destroyed a city was infinite crisis.

Sure, Bludhaven twice is a little rediculous, but who cares?

  8. DC and continuity... two things that haven't gone together since the real Crisis. Since then, its a game of what's in, what's out this month. Here's to hoping GJ's promotion brings some stability over there.

So, basically Dick Grayson is in a catch 22. With a Kandorian running around playing Nightwing, he can't go back to that name. Dick won't want to go back to Robin, and if Bruce Wayne is alive, then the clock is ticking on how long till Bruce takes back over as Batman. Guess he'll just retire again. Or they'll kill him... or the Kandorian... or both.

And Dick can't go back to Bludhaven... they blew it off the map. Or to be more specific, Captain Atom blew up, and finally got around to turning evil like DC wanted to do ages ago, and that was pretty much the end of that town. Not that I minded, it was kinda cool to see that old story revisited, if a little over the top destructive.

I know Captain Atom turned "evil"... But that didn't have anything to do with Bludhaven, did it?

If memory serves, the brotherhood of evil dropped Chemo on Bludhaven.

  9. It was too short. Poor Dick. :(

    Snicker!

Was it longer than during knightfall when Dick wore the costume though?

(I've kind of given up reading DC recently as it seems like the whole Batman thing is a complete mess!)

    T.

Yes, it's been longer than that. Bruce died a year ago during Final Crisis. By the time he's back it'll be a year and a half. Still, during that time Dick had to fight for the Batmantle and all that.

The common misconception is that the best thing DC has going for it are the big 3. DC really shines in it's use of minor characters. What DC really has going for it is how much it focuses on characters like Booster Gold, Mera & Question.

I'm not buying bat books but I still find myself spending too much every month on comics because of their ability to work with no names.

That said, Paul Dini still writes a great Batman and Greg Rucka's Detective Comics (starring Batwoman) is very highly praised.

I was mostly annoyed that they replaced him with 'Dick' because it has pretty much been established that Master Richard does not want the role. That was the whole reason he left to go to Bludhaven, so he could stop being in Bruce's shadowy shadow. Then the whole little brat thing made me just a little more mad.

Yeah, I've always liked that Dick became his own man, and I especially loved that the name Nightwing originally had a Kryptonian origin. It showed that Dick was inspired by more than just Bats, and that he wasn't destined to just follow in his old mentor's footsteps. I kinow that's out of continuity now, but I like it.

That's actually still very much continuity. Nightwing gave up the mantle of Nightwing when the REAL Nightwing returned. For those of you who aren't current in DC Kandor was returned to it's former glory and now their are 100,000 Kryptonians alive. They've created a "New Krypton" and *Spoiler* will be going to war against Earth in a few months.

  10. Miry, I think battlecat was saying DC had hinted that they were doing the time travel thing with Bruce BEFORE they revealed it with Cap.

Either way, they're both rip offs of Booster Gold's "death" :P

Seriously... I don't give a damn. Grant Morrison blows. Anyone who wrote Final Crisis shouldn't be allowed to write comics anymore.

As for Dick being Batman... Sure he was rebellious at some point, but he grew up. Classic story of, well everybody.

Paul Dini has made Dick a great Batman (no thanks to Grant Morrison)... It was too short. Poor Dick. :(

  11. Man, I gotta make more of these :D ... and when I do...they will be donated to a proper home.

"A proper home" better be in Northern Alberta... :P

Seriously, these are among my favorite mates I own.

Especially Destro & Cobra Commander... They just capture the characters so brilliantly.

    Thanks again. ;)

  12. Well I promised these like a month ago, so it's time I lived up to my word.

All except one of these are Nervous' mates.

    First up: The Joes

Duke was one of the first customs Nervous did while Wetsuit and Gung Ho came later in "Gen 2." :P

The other 2 pics of of Cobra... Apparently you did a lot more baddies Josh. :ninja:

The Cobra trooper is one I bought from someone selling off their mate collection. I honestly don't remember who it was.

Zartan is, once again Gen1 while the rest are Nervous' later customs.

Pic 1: Now you see Wraith...

    Pic 2: Now you don't. :P

    Gah!

    These pics are low qual.

I thought I'd save some board memory... But these really look bad. If people want I can post better ones. :(

  13. I talked about this in the toyfair thread a bit but I'll join in here:

Halo has the POTENTIAL to make the best minimates out there to date. Don't argue with me until you hear me out.

The character diversity and designs make for great looking creatures which would make the set look phenomenal. They have everything they could need: Bright colors, interesting accessories and a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Maybe I'll throw together some pics of different characters.

That said... I'm nervous. Thinking along the same lines as Dinobot I'm not sure they'll use the license to it's strengths.

It's that first boxset that makes me nervous.

That first boxset should be the Halomates I have.

    It should be:

Master Chief, Cortanna, a Grunt and an Elite.

Why? Because it includes main characters and army builders and keeps the line looking diverse. It's a good first building block.

I think Halo babies is a good indication of what cute, big headed minimates could look like:

    http://www.meupapeldeparedegratis.net/game...s-christmas.asp

Alright, they're a little over the top, but that second pic shows half a dozen of the 30 possible characters and you have to admit they all are appealing to the eye and would make a great selection.

  14. Well I finished ME2 last night. Wow. The tail end of that game is epic.

    I LOVED it!

It's so cool that ANYONE can die in the second game. Depending on what decisions you make any character can die... Including you. You can sacrifice yourself or any crewmember.

I made it through with the "no one left behind," meaning none of the major characters died. (It's impossible to make it through with ALL your crew... Which is sad since I saw one of my favorites get liquified before my eyes.... EWWWWW.)

Neo, don't feel obliged to do all the side quests. While my memory isn't that great since I haven't play #1 in a long time I'm pretty sure most of tkhe plot points carried over into #2 are story. You'll get bonuses for being a higher level and stuff, but don't get too worked up about it. If you're getting bored of ME just finish it. ME2 is a FAR superior game and it would suck if you couldn't appreciate it after playikng too much of the first one.

Damnit! Now I have to wait 2 years again for #3!

    Borderline SPOILERS!!! DAMN YOU NESTLE!!!!

This ones so new that a lot of folks are still rounding up crew and doing the missions to get them loyal to you!

    T.

Well WOW. Is all I can say. Turns out I didn't "Borderline Spoil" as much as Tim or I thought:

I was wrong. You CAN save everyone! I was under the impression that I had completed the game as well as possible. Turns out I didn't. Damnit! I guess I'll be playing ME2 through again. I'll probably take a break, but more than anything this makes me love the game more. They were right when they said it would be hard to keep everyone alive! Even a completist like myself failed.

For those of you who ahve skipped this game, do yourselves a favor and rent it. If it weren't for the stupid planet scanning this game might get a perfect score from me. :P

  15. Here's the spiel from DST's website:

    Halo Minimates Revealed!

In November 2001, Bungie and Microsoft brought the world “Halo: Combat Evolved”. The game became a worldwide sensation and helped rocket the “Xbox” to stardom. Since then, the franchise has continued to gain momentum with “Halo 2”, “Halo 3”, “Halo Wars”, and “Halo 3: ODST” (not to mention the DVD release of “Halo: Legends”). Now, as everyone waits in anticipation for Fall release of the prequel “Halo: Reach”, Diamond Select is proud to announce the inclusion of “Halo” into the Minimates universe!

To help launch the line this Fall, comic book and specialty stores will be offering a 4-pack which will include:

    Master Chief

    UNSC Marine

    Spartan in Scout Armor

    Elite in Assault Armor

Future announcements will bring great news concerning other Spartan armor classes from the various games (in your favorite multi-player color schemes), aliens & allies, and vehicles. We’ll also be bringing you news about our plans for a sneak peek/debut at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

    ...

    Nice!

This is a license that might have good timing (Halo Reach) and work pretty well. I'm kind of bored of the games themselves but am looking forwards to a minimate Master Chief!

    T.

p.s. watch Nestle go all girlie and squeal when he see's this :)

    LOL.

Ah Tim... Too much history. :P:lol:

I AM super excited about this!

Other than Ghostbusters, I don't remember the last license that jumped out at me as "awesome."

I notice the 4 pack is all Spartan & Elite armors though...

Their post says they'll be expanding the line to bigger and better which is good... But WHEN!?!?!? The real potential for Halo mates lies in the diverse characters they can create.

Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, ect. Each species and character is SO diverse in look and style that they could make this one of the coolest mates lines out there.

They're all so colorful and different that these could easily look as good as DCD's line or later Marvel ones. All they need to do is go beyond what they've done with the other Halo toy licenses. ... That's where I'm worried. :(

All Kubricks did was Spartans.
