  1. I hope the new box set comes with all the goodies from the control art. After that NO MORE! I'm pretty sure this covers every conceivable necessary GB figure except GB1 Janine who is sorely needed. I kind of agree with karamazov that she is more essential than a plain clothes Dana. Also, I'm a little bugged that Egon still has the flat hair, I'm pretty sure his hair had that exaggerated coif in both movies.

EDIT: Uh oh, back of the box says only a PKE meter and lab coat for pack-ins. D'oh!

EDIT AGAIN: Maybe Egon does come with the new hairpiece. I think my monitor was too dark to see properly. :o

  2. I don't think these would sell gangbusters like Ghostbusters, but there has to be a way bigger market than for 24! Buying 24 mates always seemed to me like buying Grey's Anatomy mates or Law & Order mates -- I might like those TV shows but they're just TV shows. For some reason sci-fi stuff lends itself much more to wanting a toy representation, for me at least.

If I put on my marketing cap, here's how I might see it.

24 had a largely civilian-based line; designs did not excite nor could there have been a huge demand for 24 figures. Indeed, much of the other 24 figures have featured mostly Jack (some Palmer). LOST has proven a larger and more devoted following with a far larger cast that could be "marketable"

Since you mentioned Ghostbusters, it was mentioned in the LotR/Ghostbusters thread that the success of the GB line had to do with the devoted fanbase and the lack of GB market saturation. LotR fans would probably go for the Toybiz figures which were easily available, well made, and had a large depth of characters. The only other option for GB fans were the overpriced Mattel figures which had poor variety and lack of core characters (by that I mean non-slimed Peter and Egon). For LOST fans, the only alternatives for figure collecting have been McFarlane (expensive and static) and Bif Bang Pow (expensive and ugly).

  3. The finale made me cry manly tears. DST should placate me with some LOST 'mates.

Though, now that I think of it, I wonder if the 24 line (I believe the last 'civilian' mate driven line) performed poorly due to fewer fan favorite characters and less because of any visual appeal. I'd think most people would want a Jack Bauer (24 doesn't have the same rabid following as LOST) and after that, little else. With LOST, many of the main characters have large followings (Locke, Hurley, Sawyer, Ben, Sayid, Desmond, Eko, Daniel, Richard) who could be pared with many of the show's less-than-loved characters (Shannon, Michael, Ana-Lucia, Ilana, Paulo and Nikki) to maximize a larger amount of figures. Think about it, DST!

  4. Crud, now they have to have a John Conner/T-800 Father's Day set!

    Did I miss that somewhere?

Oh no, just thinking out loud. This is probably not the right time to add things to my wishlist though. ;)

I'm looking at those Universal Monsters pictures again and feeling some kind of plastic high. Dracula is a tad duller than the rest, but that could easily be rectified if he had an alternate expression baring his fangs.

  5. should we change this threads name to "Universal Monsters Minimates"?.

    but i just wanna see

    phantom of the opera 4 pack(erik,red death erik,christine and raoul)invisible man(invisibleman in clothes,completely translucent invisibleman,flora,and arthur

dr jeckyl and mr hyde(jeckyll, hyde, ivy, and muriel)

    wolfman(larry talbot,wolfman,gwen,and sir john)

    frankenstein(dr frankentein,the frankstein monster,elizabeth,and fritz)

    the mummy(imhotep,helen,"ardath bay"mummy,joseph whemple)

    dracula(dracula,van helsing,,mina harker,and jon harker)

hunchback of notre dame(quasimodo, esmeralda, jehan, and captain phoebus)

wow,the next few years are gonna be AWESOME!

Would you consider Phantom a Universal Monster?? I mean, i'm VERY prone to theater, and i consider anything PotO to be romance...and musical, i guess.

    Monster, i see not. [/Yoda]

The Lon Chaney version would fall under the Universal Monsters licence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_Monsters

  6. "Kubrick's Rocky line doesn't have a slab of meat for the Italian Stallion to punch"

Yeah, but Minimates do which why we're awesome.

Medicom gets some pretty choice licenses, but I think the 'mates have them beat in terms of articulation, accessories, availability and pricing. Still, I'd buy most of these in a heartbeat (especially Kane).

  7. If DST were to pick up the license for LOST, do you think they would realistically sell? It would be nice to have them in waves like the Star Trek or BSG figures, but I don't know if they would have the visual appeal that those lines had. Basically, I'd like LOST figures, as long as they are received in the same way as the 24 'mates.

    P.S. 5 days!

  8. I know that another Endoskeleton is a bland choice for a lot of you (and I agree; I want my Liquid T-1000!) but does anyone know if it has any differences from the other Endoskeleton figures? At the very least, it could provide a little variety in my post-apocalyptic display.

  9. M'yup, that's Kyle alright. He's got Michael Biehn's gorgeous Minimate eyes.

I absolutely love it, both Kyle and the Ground Killer Thingymabob. Though now I'm greedy for a motorcycle two-pack for the Terminators. Let's see a Series 2!

With the Delorean, I'm still on the fence. The Marty figure has guaranteed that I will purchase it, but just from the pictures I do agree it is too chunky and squat. But my mind can always change once I see some better pics of it (possibly in relation to some other minimates).

  10. So, the only ones that got released from wave 2 were BD Sarah, John and AA Sarah packs? Wasn't there something else that we're missing?

Yeah, if Wave 2 had been shipped to Toys R Us, there would have been a BD Endoskeleton and Liquid T-1000 in lieu of the AA T-1000 and Inmate Sarah pack. (The BD Endo was released in the single pack assortment though)

  11. Santa came through this year and I got all of Series 2 in my stocking. A quick review:

Combat T-800 is without a doubt my least favorite of the six figures, mainly because he's such a pointless retread of Assault Gear T-800 (which was pretty similar to Biker T-800. Hmmmmm.....). Though since DST blew almost every possible Arnie variant in Series 1, they had to put some sort of Terminator figure in Series 2. Still, I would have liked for variety's sake a bullet-riddled jacket or some battle damage tampo on his leg (in case I ever want to replace the lava legs on the BD Arnie)

Young John Conner is very nicely done. His likeness is simple and yet instantly recognizable. The scale is off, but I should be used to inconsistencies in scale in my block figures by now. A must have and worth they lame Arnie variant.

Battle Damaged Sarah Conner was not a figure I was really looking forward to since I already had the SWAT Sarah, but this figure has grown on me. I think it's the angry face and wild hair that makes her so much better for action posing on my shelf.

Motorcycle Cop T-1000 was much more anticipated since I did not have the Liquid Cop. Whoever said the stylized look made them think of Cartman was dead on. The battle-damaged torso under the jacket was a nice touch, now I have three cop torsos to mix amongst my T-1000 figures. Very nice!

Inmate Sarah Conner is kinda bland, but no less accurate. I do wish her face wasn't so damn angry so she doesn't look like she wants to murder Kyle (who she is currently posed with).

Asylum Assault T-1000 gives us the last of the possible battle damaged parts we will ever need for a T-1000 figure. The exploded head might just be the best accessory of the wave. The normal head's likeness isn't great, but given how un-cylinder Robert Patrick's head is, I have a feeling this is the best DST will ever do.

Nitpicking aside, this was a great way to end the T2 line. I eagerly await what movie property DST picks up next *cough*Alien*cough*
