Been working Arex's 'below decks' Added the hip ball to the back of the hips and rotated the hip socket to run front to back rather than sideways. Need to remove some of the 'crotch' to allow the leg to pivot forward or backwards. I realised I modelled the knee backwards though 🫣 The first pic is how his leg should look, but is very gappy. The second looks better to me, despite being 'wrong'. All 3 knees would bend backwards as per usual, with a hoof style foot to get the 'S' bend shape - the back foot might need to be at a different angle to balance him. Either angle could have what would normally be the inside leg cut out made smaller, as per the red dotted line to look better from the front. His extra leg has the range and direction of motion as the regular two, which is tricky, but not impossible, to do on a minimate. The 2D animation sort of warps depending on what's needed, so I don't believe he would ever be able to sit down as he's shown doing- he'll be standing at a bridge station anyway as Chekov will be a the helm anyway. My Allen hands could use a little work but they were good enough for now. LOL Question for you. Is your Minimate design such that you can make a change and downstream models will also update? Or if you found a problem, would you have to update all the ones you've done so far individually? On a sarcastically unrelated note, have you printed one yet? Nice work! I love where this is going. Liney Posted July 9 Author Posted July 9 I've not thought about that before. I have a master copy which I copy pieces off of to work on. So I would have to update any different version if I make changes. I imagine there's a way - like using smart objects in photoshop. Printing is looking like it'll be at least a month away. The heatwave has put a stop of working on building my workshop space - it's still a powerless, doorless shell currently 😔 Quote
Liney Posted July 10 Author Posted July 10 A bit more work on Arex's legs, trying to work out the angles for his legs and feet. The back foot is going to have to be a different angle to the front ones. Front legs will probably be spread to give a wider stance/better balance, with the feet sculpted to be flat in that position. Blue leg to show the height of a regular mate - he'll probably ended up a few mm taller, which I feel is fine. Quote
