AdyCarter Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews....RY-TOWER-DC.XML 'tis a shame, no more exclusives from them I guess Quote
Cyc Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 So really we're down to just Previews and AFX, AFX who seem to have near constant sales of their exclusives which makes me wonder if they'll ever be interested in any more... Quote
cale Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 are minimates dying (SOBS LOUDLY) IM REALLY SAD NOW Quote
antacost Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Can't say as I'm surprised. Nobody can compete with Best Buy on pricing for CD's... Tower's toy section on the website hasn't been updated in forever, either, so it's not that big of a loss if they go under... I know they were a supporter of the line since way back, but they haven't shown us much love lately... Quote
Amazing.JL Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 No kidding, their prices were high even on sale Only their minimates were cheap. I scored just about every time too before evryone new what minimates were. Quote
Shanester Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 This will probably mean no more exclusives, but there will still be other entities picking them up and of course we can always hope the Cons get new exclusives in years to come. Quote
The_Donster Posted August 23, 2006 Posted August 23, 2006 Here's a e-mail I received today from Tower A message from the CEO of Tower Records: I’d like to personally update you on what’s happening at Tower and why this is such good news for you. As the CEO of Tower, I announced Sunday night that Tower is filing Chapter 11 reorganization. That might not sound like good news, but for the over 3,000 employees of Tower and Tower.com, as well as for our millions of loyal customers, it’s actually very good news. Here’s why: We have the financing in place to continue operations as usual and have the product you have come to expect in our stores. And if we don’t, we can get it for you. It also means that we are now positioned to sell our company within the next 60 days or so, in time to have even more product for the holiday season. Most importantly, as usual, Tower gift cards are still good in any of our stores or on Tower.com. And now the best news of all: take advantage of our "Buy 4 Get 5," in store promotion and, when you bring this email in to any store between now and September 4, we’ll give you an additional $5.00 "CEO Discount" as a token of our appreciation for your loyalty. More savings for you! Russ Solomon, the founder of Tower Records, recognized the need to cater to you, the music and movie junkie, by opening the world’s first music superstore in 1960. Today Tower is still the industry leader, thanks to you, our customer. So come by and see what’s new in our stores and we’ll continue to keep you posted on our progress. Joe D’Amico, CEO Quote
rx78jj Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Buy 4 get 5 what. Anything...... anyways i never really like tower all that much. Stuff there was always a bit expensive. Too bad for the minis though. Quote
jodd Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 I have decided to become the new CEO of Tower. My name is Jodd E. Fudd, I am a millionare, I own a mansion, and a yaht. *hehehehehe* Quote
Rad Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 You own a yaht? Isn't that some kind of small mud hut? I own a yacht! I feel superior to you mr so-called CEO! Quote
Ivan Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 It also means that we are now positioned to sell our company within the next 60 days or so, in time to have even more product for the holiday season. I'm confused. If the company does get sold, does the money from the sale go to purchase new merchandise? I don't see how that works, but then again I'm not a contract law/MBA/financier type. (I even had to consult Google to find out how to spell 'financier.') Quote
Kirby Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Tower filed chapter 11 a few years back. This is round 2. Tower has been cutting back on non-audio materials since their previous bankruptcy. Though, this is makes it really tempting to pick up the 50" Qee - what a deal, especially on shipping! Quote
AdyCarter Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 Towe are starting a liquidation of all stock beginning today... Quote
AdyCarter Posted October 7, 2006 Author Posted October 7, 2006 Yeah chances are it'll be instore where the massive pricecuts happen Quote
Amazing.JL Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I'll stop by a few and see what they got, hopefully we can find cheap skrulls Quote
Lobsterman Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 If you're looking for cheap skrulls, the Tower here in Vegas (apparently a flagship store) has been clearancing a lot of toys from other stores at 80% off. Last week, I saw a huge box full of skrull sets marked down. How many are you after, exactly? Quote
TENIME_art Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 So far at my Tower, only 10% off on toys. We've got tons of Skrulls, a few Professor X's & AFX Iron Mans (yes, "mans" not "men"), and almost all of series 10 & 11. The discounts will go up over the next 8-10 weeks. But, since I'm out of a job, I'll need any interested parties to pay me before I get their 'mates... @$!#*&^%-ing Tower CEOs... @$!#*&^%-ing Great American Liquidators... Quote
Amazing.JL Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 ^Is that the one in Schaumburg or on Clark St? Quote
TENIME_art Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Army Trail in Bloomingdale. I get an additional 10% off the discount price. They took away our discounts! Like we're working there for the @$!#*&^%-ing $7.50 an hour... Quote
boyd Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 I was checking towerrecords.com this morning, and noticed that they have pulled all toys off the site. No crazy deals on discounted Skrulls online, unfortunately. Quote
Marquis de Carabas Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I went to the one in waaaaaaay north phoenix three days ago, and managed to snag the very last super skrull. he was 20% off, so I was happy. horror movies were also 30% off, so I had to get "santa's slay" for $10. it's such a funny movie. nandoninny Posted April 19 Posted April 19 a little late but i just watched the documentary on Tower Records ("all things must pass" - directed by colin hanks). it reminded me about them having exclusive minimates. anyone have a list of which ones were their exclusives? also curious to hunt down the promotional ones they had. i don't recall a tower in houston but i remember going to the one in austin, LA, and NY though and just thinking it was beautiful. i didn't know the history though. yeah, the prices were nuts but when it came to selection and imports they were pretty darn the best Quote
Trekker 42 Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I remember two. One was the tubed Silver Surfer and another was my favorite Minimate, Sauron. Quote
