I figured I would start posting my customs again on here after not doing so for years. I occasionally post my customs on a few of the Facebook groups, but I know some of you do not visit them so I figured I would start posting them here again.

My first customs are also my favorite Marvel army builders. I love the 1st release of The Hand Minimates the most, although I still like the second versions also. I have 8-9 of them and buy them up when I see them for a good price. I decided last week to make my own and go with their grey outfits instead of the red. Their uniforms, hood, arm and leg wraps, spear, sword and sheath, and shurikens are all 3d printed. The face decal I made in Adobe Illustrator. I am probably going to make at least 6-8 of them for my Hand army. I hope you all like them.

Oops, I just realized the wraps on one of the legs slipped up above the knee.

Those are absolutely gorgeous! Are the 3d parts resin prints? Did you design them?

Beautiful photo. I'm so impressed with all of it.

I used matte PLA this time. It seems to help cover layer lines better than regular PLA. I want a resin printer to make things like swords and knives (plus translucent things). Printing them in PLA leaves little lumps from the support trees. Sanding helps, but I still want them smoother. Resin printers look like a pain though. If I can find the room for one I may just end up getting one at some point.

Fantastic results!

Have you ever printed with ABS? I use it almost exclusively for my Minimate stuff. People talk about fumes but I'm still alive and I like the qualities of the material. Easier to sand than PLA among other things. What size nozzle are you using?

I always pick up on 'toxin' discussions , probably because I worked in an industry that was dominated by chemicals & ignorance .   Just be careful , melted ABS gives off styrene & benzene .  Benzene is a killer .

I hear you. But it's not like working in a Lego factory or something in terms of the quantity of fumes produced. One roll of plastic is typically a kilo. It takes forever to go through one. I just make sure I have a window open and don't sit right beside the printer for long stretches. I have been exposed to far more Benzene from the years I smoked cigarettes than I ever will from 3d printing ABS. There are other nasties in the fumes as well so ventilation is still important. But I'm definitely not worried about Benzene exposure.

Lighting model airplanes on fire as a child (making crash scenes) probably exposed me to more ABS toxins than my 3d printing hobby ever will.

Good of you to bring up safety. Danger awareness if never a bad thing.

PS I'd also be more concerned about ventilation and chemical exposure with a resin printer. I have one and haven't used it in years. That stuff is really nasty.

I do have a roll of abs, but have not messed with it yet. Once I have finished setting the printer up in my extra room I will play around with printing in abs. Right now it is set up in my closet in my bedroom and I do not want to print something in abs and walk into a small room with those fumes. I am currently using a .4 nozzle. I do have a .2, but it is clogged and I am having trouble unclogging it (to the point that I have given up on it for now). I think I will probably just buy another. I did buy a generic .2 from Amazon and it ended up scratching the plate really bad. No more generic nozzles for me. I am sticking to the Bambu ones.

My library just got a Bambu Lab P2S. It isn't a resin printer, as far as I know, but should we be worrying about fumes? It's just sitting there on the counter churning away pretty much 24/7. I can smell a little bit of something when I'm near it, but nothing too bad.

I also want to print some Minimate parts. Any recommendations?

Resin prints can be quite brittle. There is a company out there that makes a resin with "ABS-like" qualities. You might investigate that as a possible material to use. The only other thing is where you get your parts from. I make my parts in CAD so they're pretty precisely sized. When I get AI to make stuff, some of it comes out looking pretty good but it always needs to be scaled. My AI hairpieces, for example, would fit on the head of a pin before scaling them up to fit a Minimate.

Is there a staff person who will set it up to print your object? Or do you just book time with the printer and need to know more about what you're doing? Are you planning to print accessories? Or Minimate body parts?

The director of the library -- my boss, since I work there six hours a week and have since DST folded -- is a swell, creative guy, adn is always printing things for people. I am not a huge BSG or Trek fan, so nothing I need there, but some  fun add-ons to existing figures would be cool. I may go for a cross-legged pelvis piece? Seems useful.
