Masters of the Universe movie

My wife and I, and the grandkids went and saw it last night. I have to say that I loved it. I have not had this much fun watching a movie in a long time. There are going to be a few funny parts that you may not get if you were not a fan of the 80's cartoon, but overall everyone should really enjoy it. I don't want to get into any spoilers, but make sure you stick around for all three of the scenes during the credits. Overall I would give it an 8.5 out of 10.

Not perfect but kicks the crap out of the Kevin Smith series.

I'm kind of a jaded grumpy old man when it comes to modern takes on classic properties. I hate pretty much all modern Trek and Star Wars though I love the originals. I watched this to the end and wasn't pissed off. High praise from me. LOL

I'd go so far as to say I thought it was pretty good. I would watch a sequel.

For what they were, I could 'enjoy' the Netflix stuff, though I was lucky and waited until the second season/series whatever was out, so I watched all at once which, when binged, made it more enjoyable. If I had watched it from the start, the clear 'just waiting for He-Man to come back' vibe would have soured me, and the Evil Lyn story in Season 1 P2 was fine enough, but not as a climax to a single story, if that makes sense. Either way, I would rank it low on MOTU stuff, so I hear where you are coming from. 

But otherwise, I genuinely loved the movie. Like, I had fun. And weird as it is to say, it took me back to being a kid, when my grandpa used to take me to the movies. So, I loved it. Was not perfect, had some naggling issues, but overall, really good. 

ABSOLUTELY EFFING TERRIBLE choice to launch it after Mando and Grogu, Backrooms (and Obsession, but that one was a surprise), same weekend as Scary Movie, and before Disclosure Day and Toy Story 5. Seriously, as good as this movie was, it was gonna be DOA, and it seems it took a hit. They should have brought it out during FDather's Day, play to the nostalgia of it. I could take my dad, my friend could take his son, etc.

I rate it a lot lower than that. LOL I was hugely disappointed. Teela was a self-pitying ungrateful dick and I hate Smith for that.

This new movie seemed to want to include the original fans instead of insult them. It's infinitely better than the Smith series.

I can see that re: Teela. For me, I accepted it was giving her (spoilers here-)

a journey of acting out in pain from a PERCEIVED slight and betrayal, but that was born of her loss and grief that her best friend was also the man whom she loved, and she felt BOTH lied to her, along with her other friends and even her dad- but the truth was the grief was she felt hurt she lost her love. Only for her story of her to reconcile, get over it, and then Revolution.

Again, it worked better for me, or maybe I was just forgiving, because I binged it all and did was able to come to that viewing, but I genuinely agree with how you feel, I can absolutely get that.

And yeah, they failed the marketing and timing horrendous, but I am SUPER excited for the potential, there.

Sad fact; not a single cartoon or movie media has done all of Skeletor/Hordak and She-Ra/Snake-Men in its lore. OG cartoon missed the Snakes, 200x She-Ra and Hordak, and the Kevin Smith stuff two of those, to a point. Call it 1.5 out of 3. I would love for just ONE series to feel complete.

i very much enjoyed it and oddly enough my wife liked it more than me.  for the record, i loved the kevin smith series but do think it was not meant for everyone.  the tone of the movie worked better imo.

Yep. My girlfriend was in the same boat, she has seen it multiple times, and I have just seen it once so far.

You nailed it, perfect statement!

I really enjoyed it. It was fun... Growing up we went to movies to be entertained, and i was very entertained. I loved the supporting cast of characters. I hope a second one brings more of our old faves. It was neat how they were "named"

Skeletor was great and maybe stole the show!

I have a bit of a dislike for Jared Leto. But I have to give him credit. He was a pretty good Skeletor. I thought they did a good job balancing the character's cheesiness with his menace and power.
