Man, this is the most nothing IP. I think at this point every license that isn’t Marvel solely appeals to men in their 40’s/50’s. It’s all shit from before I was born, is there really nothing for someone like me? I’m a woman in my late 20’s, I have no want for the old-ass dnd cartoon or wrestling or anything or this outside of I guess the old simpsons bit being a funny gag. Marvel’s entirely stuff I have no interest in, am I just locked out of Minimates if I’m not into their current licenses? I’ve been here since I was a kid and this line caters to the complete opposite

sorry you're not happy with this.

not sure what to tell you.  what would you like?

not that i have a solution or say in anyway.

best i can offer is one of the things that got me into minimates was the idea of customizing them into whatever i wanted.

A bit unsure what you would like but I *do* admit Minimates used to snag a lot of fun licenses, and it'd be great to get some more modern, fun things-

Cyberpunk 2077/Edgerunners

The Office

Parks and Rec

Prey

Alien Romulus

Marvel Rivals

Baldurs Gate 3

All scream great licenses to me for fun LCS and online impulse buys to us nerds.

Having the d&d license and NOT trying to make a Baldur’s Gate 3 set is genuinely insane to me. One of the biggest gaming successes in years with next to no merch just sitting there. Instead we get 3 sets of the cartoon

I'm a man in my early 70's & undoubtedly in the smallest demographic Minimate grouping possible yet even I can relate to much of what you are saying . ' Much' but not everything!  :)   For the record I was 13 when POTA came out , I remember the hype & enjoyed the movie but ,like you believe it or not, I am not overjoyed at what we're getting .....my reasons are , I believe, different to yours .

In a nutshell what non-nostalgic licence would you embrace ?  I am, unfortunately, known for my sarcasm ....I am not being disingenuous I am genuinely interested .

edit: I was typing as you were posting ...OK Baldur's Gate

Totally agree with Baldur's Gate.

I'm sure the Rivals license costs a small fortune.

As a guy in his 50's. the 70's and 80's nostalgia hits home for me, so a lot of these IP's are right inside my areas of interest.  There are some glaring holes in the sets we do have (i.e., cosmic Marvel, magical Marvel other that Doctor Strange and Blade).

FWIW, the Wheel of Time has zero (0) figures associated with it and its a huge Amazon property right now. I'm sure that is part of the barrier to obtaining that license but what a score I imagine that would be.

I'll just chime in to say that I'm not the biggest POTA fan, but I'm all about these mates.  I am so very glad that they are from the original movie and not the reboots.

That said, I feel your pain, Smashmaster, because the trend of "all the old stuff is new again" is a real problem toy industry right now.  How many times can the same dozen transformers/MOTUs/GI Joes/Thundercats be made before we reach a saturation point?  And I mean that rhetorically because clearly the answer is 'infinite times' because as the audience gets older, they get more cash, and just keep buying it.

These are solid representations of the original Apes movie.

I must admit I’m not a massive fan of that one. Very much more a fan of the Caesar series. But they do look damn good.

I can’t even remember watching this movie once in my life. Smasher, I hear you I think part of the issue is minimates just aren’t sold at mass retailers so it’s more aligned with the tastes of those audiences. I have longed for a Buffy line for over 20 years at this point. Charmed, Archie, Hunger Games, Jem are all properties I think have potential with the Minimates functionality and form but I bet the licensing fees would be intense. What would you want to see?

I'm sure Marvel Rivals and Baldur's Gate are pricey add-ons to our existing licenses, but they're certainly worth looking into. The Marvel sets of late have been very 90s-focused, but the last time we tried to go a little more modern was the Young Avengers set, and that did not perform as well as hoped. The Deadpool set may have a more modern appeal.

Jem has some great character designs, and we've already made a Jem statue. But it doesn't seem much more "modern" than GI Joe or Transformers. The TF designs are at least still relevant with younger fans, as the new cartoons use the classic looks. Movie TF Minimates are possible, but I'm not sure those would have younger appeal. We were trying to make Joe appeal to a younger crowd by shifting to Skybound designs, but maybe that's a lateral move.

Prey and Romulus are great, we certainly have nothing against Alien and Predator Minimates, obviously. More have been discussed, although not specifically from those films. We'll have to see how our Fox license works out -- I honestly consider Apes as a franchise to be in a similar vein, if a different era.

The Office could be fun, I saw they're making a Polly Pocket set. I guess I don't think of Office or Parks & Rec as "active" licenses, but they're certainly more appealing to a younger audience, I suppose?

I certainly apologize if anyone feels left out of the Minimates experience. Especially women. And obviously we want to appeal to a younger crowd, so if anyone has other ideas in either vein, I'd love to hear from them.

The Office , it's a great show but a Minimate set ? I could rustle up a Minimate set, anybody could, I ,personally, don't need to pay for one .  A 'Minimate' outside of its packaging must be instantly recognisable to a high percentage of people ...that is the test of a Minimate that might sell . Suits & civilians, male or female , are just fine for context characters  but the basic Minimate does not work purely on its facial features alone however well those faces are designed .Minimates 'work' with instantly recognisable costumes, colours & features. I'm absolutely adamant on this .

Marvel characters are 99% instantly recognisable because of those factors & they are successful .... the Netflix box sets being the gold-plated exception .

Colours, costumes, capes & characters ,that's what sells Minimates .

& 'suits & ties' are becoming more ludicrous & scary as each day passes.

Movie TF Minimates are possible

I hope you mean one more box set is on its way.  Still need one more seeker.  Make the whole set repaints.  🤠

Haha PoTA gets the old men of the board to out themselves. I too am in my 50s, closer to 60 than 50.

I'll buy the crap out of these, even if they don't fix the ape noses. (Please suggest it Zach).  I really hope we get to a second set and it has Urko in it. Urko plus the first set characters would be pretty good coverage.

Urko, Nova, and two generic apes (gorillas preferably) would work for me.

MM announces a new license - Page and half of people complaining that it's not the license they want, instead they want hip new licenses like 30 year old TV shows. This is why we can't have nice things.

I, a HUGE fan of the Young Avengers set, loved it!

... but it was a set of a comic from, like, 2008-2012, over a decade old by the time the set came out, and aside America and Kate, had no MCU or 'mainstream' appearances save a Kid Loki cameo, I think? Even then, the comic lasted about a dozen issues, and while it is considered a 'cult classic' among Marvel fans, bluntly, I don't think it would be the hot seller others might, even though it was an INSTANT need, for me.

Personally, I have to think that having current comic costumes and outfits or popular games available at the counter at check-out at local comic stores has to count for something. Please look into Rivals, at least; I can see those popping off. My local stores' staff and customers talk about the game non-stop, strike while the iron is hot!

X-MEN 97

This all day every day. As for the Office, it did well for Pops, pulls huge numbers on Peacock, and many of us did buy the playsets. Same with Seinfeld. Friends is in a whole other league. As for modern teams/looks, the FF set was perfection for me but it didn’t sell as well. The YA set was an interesting choice that also didn’t sell well. I think it’s fair to say modern comics themselves are more IP factory than actual sales. Given headwinds, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see more leaning into 80/90s IP to try to make sales. Spector Creative had a great video last week talking about the challenge of female led properties that had some good nuance to it. I would love to see more modern properties but the ones that really pop have a hefty price tag. Aside from Buffy, charmed, Hunger Games, Blood and Magic, and Witcher I don’t really see/know of anything that would make a great toy. Would love to know more if there is stuff out there.

I meant modern movie TF. Bayformers. There is one last 86 movie set.

So Rodimus Prime, Unicron, Kup… Devastator?

Would I like to see characters like Cliffjumper, Ratchet, Jetfire? Sure. Can I live without them because this line was amazing? Yes.

@DSTZach do you know if they’ll match the metallic characters from the majority of the box sets or be in the classic animation style?

Anime based minimates would be cool to see. Like My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, One Punch Man and Chainsaw Man. They wouldn’t be out of place at stores like FYE and Too Cool.

I am glad I held on to the Kubrick Statue of Liberty ruins from their POTA run.  I knew it would look cool with POTA Minimates.
