SCW Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Can we get a photo from someone with a camera and not a potato?! Quote
SCW Posted March 1 Posted March 1 Point is we need one of the many people at TF to take a decent pic. Quote
buttheadsmate Posted March 1 Posted March 1 (edited) Nice picture but... "You maniac ! You blew it up! Ah damn you , God damn you all to hell !" I demand gorillas on horses for this line . Edited March 1 by buttheadsmate Quote
cylonchaney Posted March 2 Posted March 2 The costumes look well done. I wish they'd opted to give the apes noses though. I know it goes against the Minimate esthetic. But look at Grodd's face (Hail Ivan) compared to these. The nose really makes a difference for an ape. Probably still a buy for me regardless. Also, please please please make horses. I think they would be a great seller. I'd buy many to "horse up" my Western mates and as a bonus, you could army build the gorilla military at the same time. A gorilla, horse, and net would be an iconic set. Make the gorilla easy to give multiple looks. Maybe two faces like the Cardassian and others. Well done DST. I hope this line is a huge success. I'm in. Quote
buttheadsmate Posted March 2 Posted March 2 (edited) It's never wise of me to compare kubricks to Minimates but it's inevitable . Medicom did several POTA way back in 2002 & 23 years later, with an open mind, they had their good points & their bad points. Most importantly the kubrick line featured the simian characters with simian-like sculpted heads & that set the standard for future Kubrick lines . The Kubrick POTA human characters ,with plain heads in comparison, were at best naive . Sculpted heads became the norm & even seemingly mundane lines like "Kelloggs " characters became almost iconic . The Minimate line has evolved into a first class product but once again it's one step forward two steps back & if the 'above' is an example of what we are actually getting then I just can't see them surviving past an initial box set & that'll be a tragedy . Reach for the sky! This is Planet of the Apes not Planet of the Wig & Whiskers . Edited March 2 by buttheadsmate sp. Quote
Gmonkey2k Posted March 2 Posted March 2 I really can’t see what new collectors they’re trying to reach with this… I do not understand the thought process that got to “planet of the apes will save this line”. Quote

Never underestimate the power of Charlton Heston. I’m already planning my Ben Hur and Moses customs! Quote

At no point in time were we saying Minimates were in trouble and they needed to be saved. Honestly. Minimates will be going long after we're all dead. It was a license we were getting for other product categories (busts, gallery dioramas) and NOT just for Minimates. It is very rare we will get a license just for Minimates, as the profit margins are small, but if we can add it on, we do, and we did. If I recall correctly, I was one of the people who pushed for us to actually go ahead and make them, because I thought they would do well. Hopefully it leads to multiple box sets. And horses. And as far as what new collectors we'll reach... Planet of the Apes collectors? Film buffs? Animal lovers? NRA members? We aren't really making any movie Minimates right now, so maybe we'll bring some old-school collectors back to the fold. Sorry you don't like them, BHM. AS far as I know they are studio-approved and I think they look pretty great. Quote
nandoninny Posted March 3 Author Posted March 3 I’m already hoping for more. Love the original movie series! Quote

SCW Posted March 3 Posted March 3 The Kubrick sets should go well with these too. I think POTA has a pretty huge but underserved fan base. These could do well. Zach, you have to get some into the hands of Dana Gould so maybe he can get Dr.Z to plug them! Quote

hellpop Posted March 3 Posted March 3 These are cool! Cult movies used to be a Minimates staple, so this feels like a step back in time in more ways then one. Zach, any plans to do the modern movies, or is the license just for the original? Quote
