Marvel 89: Spider-Man

I'm dying for an updated Scorpion and Elektro. I hope they are in this new set. I really would also love a comic version of Kaine - Scarlet Spider.

This has been on my mind for a few weeks:

This story was (famously?) what was handed to Spider-Man: The Animated Series as the bible for some reason. I'm pretty sure things like Peter and Mary Jane's TAS outfits appear in this, that one "Ultimate Spider-Slayer" Smythe was in this and only this story. There's also Electro AND/or Scorpion. There's that Spider-Slayer on the fourth cover, there's the other Spider-Slayers on the first, second and fifth covers. We already had ONE Spider-Slayer (Silver Age one) and this is filled with other variations. Mary Jane, Aunt May, Flash Thompson, Liz Allan and Harry Osborn (as Green Goblin) all have back-up stories. There's even Peter Parker's long-lost parents (yeah, we're not getting them). We didn't too long ago have Bagley Spider-Man (and Black Cat) though but so far this could fit what little clues we have.

I only see one familiar face there. But I love learning the connection to the animated series.

I loved that show as a kid but feel like they never re-aired one character's introduction episodes - maybe too weird that he turned Peter old and Aunt May hit on Peter then. Unless I am miss-remembering.

I loved Morbius' look in the 90's. I would love to see that as a Minimate. I'm also holding out hope that we will see a Midnight Sons set with Dan Ketch Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider with an alternate version of him wearing his trench coat, Vengeance, Lilith, and Blackout

I love the Morbius we have ,why would we need another ?   ....is often the sort of comment that first comes to mind whenever I see requests for a revamp* of any character that we already have .

I then realise that many characters that I have are not always in the hands of other collectors . Morbius,for example, arrived in the 'Strange Tales ' boxset 11 years ago & I can't see it being bettered but I see why many people would want another .  Same goes for  Firestar in every respect .

I use to be more anti-redo but looking at the database and seeing how long it’s been for some of these characters I really feel like anything that is older than 10 years is basically a new character since the line has evolved so much. As for the Firestar comment, sir, she was done wrong and should have been fixed by now. That mask doesn’t match that costume. And the costume wasn’t even painted correctly lol. Justice for Firestar… in more ways than one!

My knowledge of Firestar as a character is limited , obviously . I am however on record somewhere as saying that she is arguably the oldest Marvel minimate which hasn't had a review . One other character that comes to mind as being 'overdue' is 'comic' Valkyrie , maybe people would like another but she is almost (in my eyes) perfect ,14 years on .

Big bold statement : if I were to sell any of my Marvel Minimates ....& that day is coming .... I wouldn't miss much from the pre-2008 waves .

It will be a sad day when you get out of the game. All I did to mine was update the face with a more modern one. 
 

As for Firestar I’m more than happy to talk about her at any time :).

Going through Spider-Man issues, I paused on the long forgotten Round Robin: The Sidekick’s Revenge. Which could actually solve two problems if it was the wave in question. It is a team up of Spider-Man, Punisher, Moon Knight, Nova and NIGHT THRASHER against Midnight, the Secret Empire, and THUNDERBALL!

If this happened: this set could be Spider-Man, Punisher, Moonknight, Night Thrasher and A member of the secret empire which would free up the slot we needed for a New Warriors 5 pack of Nova, Firestar, Marvel Boy, Speedball, and Nita. 

If the went for THUNDERBALL as the villain, a Thor Vs Wrecking Crew set would be feasible as well! 

I hope that DST explores other means to crowdfund (Haslab) or even made to order (Dragonman) because 15 Marvel Mates a year is not enough for this greedy Gus.

My comment about 'that day coming' was , in retrospect, a bit dramatic. Sorry!       I'm 70 next year & it has slowly dawned on me that St.Peter ain't going to be interested in my  'inventory' of minimates .
