minifigvig
i sold the few LOTR ‘mates i had a while back, but i think the buzz from the nycc announcements and the 7-inch figures i see in the emails gave me a renewed interest in starting a quest. it ended up being the easiest/cheapest run i’ve prob ever had! only gonna need uruk-hai swordsman and crossbowman now. can live without yelling aragorn (or an angry gollum??*)or clear frodo. any stray thoughts on the line 20 years on?? Edited October 25 by minifigvig forgot another yelling variant
cylonchaney
I'd have loved it if they scaled down the Hobbit mates instead of scaling up the human sized ones. Then they would all scale with the rest of the, dare I say it, Minimate Multiverse. Having 3d printed some smaller figures, I think they could have pulled off Mini-Minimates. They'd be soooo cute. That said, I would have bought more of the ones they made if they made more. Edited October 24 by cylonchaney
buttheadsmate
When I finally became a completist ( several years ago) LOR were actually the last line I hunted down . The movie hadn't "floated my boat" & the 'mates hadn't really interested me. Things changed & I ended up buying them & eventually became quite taken by them . Stray thoughts : Expensive to army-build .....LOR movie armies are massive. Wave 2 far less common than Wave 1 (secondary market). Box sets are extremely common & a bit repetitive . Some of the accessories are too tiny & easily lost. LOR 'mates are various sizes for obvious reasons ....not sure it worked? BTW I'm a packaging collector & I have the box-sets printed in French & (this'll sound weird ) I recall that I may have some in Spanish . DSTZach
I remember going to the showroom at Toy Fair and seeing them for the first time! I had a Sauron once upon a time, from my ToyFare days, but sold it before I got the DST job in a small toy purge pre-moving. Since I rediscovered my love of Minimates and LOTR, I've accumulated 7 or 8, mostly from Luke. But there are some good sales online I need to pull the trigger on. I like the 3-inchers, but the 2.5 inchers are fun, too.
minifigvig
i originally got sauron and the elves at sdcc when i was just a lad! never had the full fellowship or grishnakh, so now i’m excited to set up a display! @cylonchaney i agree on the scaling, i prob would’ve kept them if they didn’t warrant their* own miniverse. and also like @buttheadsmate i was more of a casual movie fan than someone who read all the books, so it was easy for me to part ways initially. i noticed Ivan has the dual language boxes on the database! pretty cool @DSTZach i had a stack of toyfare i held onto for the longest time, mostly for the minimate ads/coverage. and of course TTT!! minifigvig
@buttheadsmate i love all of those and would have especially loved the witch king. now that we have horses, and whole box of nazgûl would be amazing! what could have been…
Trekker 42
Sauron is my favorite Minimate. Just… out of all of them he’s my absolute favorite. That said, I don’t love the rest of this line. Hate to say it, but I think Lego has this property on lock. They kinda nailed Middle Earth. Minimates continue to be the top toyline for Marvel, but Lord of the Rings just… that’s Lego’s now. minifigvig
definitely agree that sauron is a bad ass minimate, i thought he was way cool back then and i’m stoked to have another on the way. but yeah stuff like lotr and harry potter are perfect for huge sets that would be fun to build, lego has that all locked in
