I've got a few things almost ready to show. Paco will probably be interested on some of what's coming. Liney's moulding experiments, specifically the Trek pant flares inspired me to try sculpting flares into a leg piece. I liked how it came out and decided I would try a Spock with ears sculpted onto his head rather than to the hairpiece as DST would do. I really like this little guy.

The phaser is available on my Printables page.

I really like how those flares turned out - definitely a more subtle yet realistic recreation of how they looked. Looks like it makes posing and standing them a easier too

Spock head looks great, like the 3" one shrunk down.

Can you now give him all kinds of fun hairstyles by boolean cutting the head with ears out of a model?

Thanks Liney.

Good eye. I stole the face sticker design from 3" Spock. I might do one more iteration and shrink it ever so slightly.

Theoretically, yes I could cut that eared-head out of a hair piece and have it fit Spock nicely. That's literally what I did with the very simple hair piece he has now.

It was actually rather a pain in the butt. When applying the face sticker, I had to center it between the ears and then cut holes in the sticker for the ears to poke through. I basically applied the sticker, cut around the ears, and then reapplied it. Worked pretty well but was a bit fiddly to get there. I made a Vulcan security officer as well and I'm really happy with how the heads came out.

I suppose the opposite is true as well. If I put the ears on everyone, I could take the time to line up ears on my sticker template and from then on, it would be really easy to apply face stickers. The ears would act as registration posts and holes. I don't think I'll bother though except in special cases like Spock.

The only drawback I can see it that Spock can't use anyone else's hair, should the need arise.

I find face stickers abd decals a pain at thd best of times!

I'd love to see all your printed mates together

He's fully 3d printed so that's not really a problem. Once I learn to sculpt hair. The reason my hair pieces suck is that they're still CAD.  Bowl cuts for everyone boys! LOL I do have some minor variation in the bangs.

Funny you should mention a group shot. I was thinking to do one after my next round of figures is complete. I must be up around 100 now. And that's counting army builders as one character.

I was in the process of building another small army when I ran out of a required plastic colour. It will be at least a week until I can get started again. It's fun to be back working on stuff though. I had not designed anything new for a while and lately there's been a small surge of creativity. A few new guns designed. Lone Ranger has a printed bandana now. :) Not to pat myself on the back too hard. But I just love Spock and his sculpted ears. He might be my favourite character I've made.

I've got some more stuff coming. But these guys are pretty much done.

My crappy photography does not do them justice. If you can't see it, Nolan has toes. :)

He's 1.1 scale. His feet are shorter than standard but his head makes up more than the difference. Those hands were a pain in the butt. I'm pretty happy with how they came out but they still look weird from a couple of angles. Multi-colour printing is kind of a game changer for me. There is zero paint on these customs. Just print and apply stickers.

The Ranger gets a bit of an update.

A bunch of these parts were done on my old crappy printer. I may give him a redo and just keep the head. With better print quality, I'll be happy with this one.

Ohhh the Lone Ranger is looking snappy, it really makes me want more western characters - like playmobil did.

I see your Gorn is actually able to hold things! An improvement on the original. The head looks very screen accurate,  but sculpted heads on mates always throws me

he Andorian hair piece came out pretty well I think. I have a lighter blue plastic but it's really old a bit brittle. I had trouble trying to  use it in the good printer. Maybe this is what an Andorian with a tan looks like. LOL

I'll be traveling for all of May. I'm going to try to finish off a Conquest from Invincible. All my Invincible figures have been gifts for my buddy that waters my plant and grabs my mail when I travel. The recently completed Nolan and Allen were meant to be this year's gift but he recently mentioned that I should make Conquest so I have taken that as a hint. This is the same guy that makes the short AI videos I've posted.

There's a bunch of Invincible characters way down my list. And now I have to slot in the crew of the Venture somewhere. :)

Funny you should mention the Phantom. I have a roll of purple plastic and have recently added gun belts to my accessory designs. He's been on my list since I got that purple roll. I also want to make young Oliver.

And a horse. I want to make a horse specifically designed for Minimate-like figures. I got some ideas from those AI designs but want to still create it myself.

I think I actually like my Cylons better than DST's. I always loved them but thought they were a little fat. Easier for me because I can sculpt right onto/into the torso. No slip over required. I designed rifles and swords. I'm pretty happy with how the rifle came out. :)

Talking with Liney about how to design Mate-like parts, I wanted to explain how I got my upper leg shape. I ended up doing this render which I think explains it better than my words could. Thought I'd post in case anyone else is working on a 3d model and stumped how to make a similar shape.

I'm not usually quite this helpful. But Liney's email came right in the middle of a bout in insomnia. Gave me something interesting to do. :)

Basically, merge a cone shape and a cube and cut off the excess. The diameter of the narrower end of the cone is equal to the cube width.

Please note, this is not from the actual part. Just something I banged together quickly to explain the steps I took. The shape might not be perfect. But a merge and 3 cuts gets you a pretty decent looking part.
