As an add on to the above; in just over a day, 1.06 milliom dollars and the 6th biggest comic funding on Kickstarter ever... at just over a day. Just. Over. A. Day.

I really hope Diamond doesn't abandon this line.

God bless you! Really hoping Flint & Jaye make it somehow.

I'll pass it along, but a long-awaited comic re-issue and a fourth concurrent toy line are not the same thing. And it made a lot of money because it's EXPENSIVE - over 2000 people backed the $300 tier ($600K) and another 250 backed the $600 tier ($150K). If we landed that many people for each set, we'd be in good shape.

But the Scarlett comic sales news was well-received, at least there was a lot of interest at the retailer level for that one, which COULD translate to good toy sales through Diamond.

Thanks, guys.

ugh  just one more box set, with minimal packaging, just do a VHS box like transformers.   All new 4 2 joe 2 cobra... come on zach.  make it happen

This is what should have been done to begin with. I just hope the ambition of the footlockers didn’t kill the line.

Plus making 3 each of Storm Shadow, Scarlett, and Snake Eyes in the first four releases of the line. I get they’re popular but it’s a bit excessive to do that many of the same character.
I’ll be slightly sad when the footlockers go but only because I like the cut out files.

We can dig into this till the cows come home. DST doesn’t want to hear it. At the end of the day 16 figures were released across 4 sets and  11 figures were the same figure. They don’t want to hear it.

I am loath to post in this thread because I have failed to embrace GI Joe Minimates in the way some of my fellow-members do so ...believe it or not....I have often bitten my tongue (idiom not idiot) . I want all Minimate lines to succeed & for what it's worth I support any minimate line accordingly including Joemates.   I'm also not seeking to prod the bear but I'm sure as hell that I will so .....

Initially GI Joe 'mates were/are too expensive ,especially the footlockers . I respect the decision to go up that road but it didn't work . I could say that that is 'in my humble opinion' but I shan't be humble about my reason for saying that ....all of the first 3 releases are still readily available online priced way below the original asking price . The 4th release is not so plentiful (as far as I can tell) but what is available remain at their original recommended price. I have no special gift for 'knowing' but the 4th release was perhaps released in fewer numbers , I will add no question mark to that remark.

Repetition of characters which re-utilise tooling is standard in almost every Minimate line , notoriously in the promotion of the Battle Beast line which, for me, became extremely tiresome & almost embarrassing .  The Joe line doesn't appear to employ a huge amount of unique tooling so why the repitition  ?  That said the Battle Beast line for example could have been huge but it became evident that existing Battle Beast toy collectors just weren't interested .

Are GI Joe collectors interested in GI Joe Minimates... I honestly don't know ? Are minimate collectors interested in GI Joe ?

I would have been if there had been less duplication and an army builder release at the start (or even now).

I've mentioned before that I was waiting for an army builder to buy into the line. Still no army builder and still no sales to me.

I know it's ambitious for a new unproven line but I feel vehicles would have helped as well. The vehicles were as much a selling point of the original line if not more so than the figures.

I’m a huge Joe fan. I had a ton of the 4” figures and vehicles and all the Sdcc exclusives.  Problem was they were all in a box in the attic.   I’d buy one, open it, then immediately store it.  So when this line was announced I found a buyer to take them all off my hands.  So I’m all in.  I’ve purchased multiples of each set and will continue to blindly support this line.  Good news about this line is I have them all up and out and in the open instead of just in storage somewhere.  If they make a ton more then I’ll have to keep some stored but I figure that would be a bridge I’ll deal with when i get there.

to be fair, I got rid of almost all my toys a few years ago and only kept my Minimates, legos, some transformers, and some designer toys.   Since then I’ve added a few gi Joe confidential, some marvel legends, and probably too many Neda figures from various line.   Including 2 Warduke’s.

The first Joe box set was a limited comic-themed exclusive, so when it came time to do two mainline sets, doing more toy-accurate versions of those four leading characters made sense. I don't think tooling played a very large part, if any.

Unfortunately, that repetition COMBINED with the higher price of the footlockers (I feel) led to a lack of sales, not just for MM collectors, but for everybody. There was just too much Joe product competing for those 40 dollars.

With the Ninja Force set, it just made sense to do the three main ninjas -- character repetition wasn't really a question, and parts re-use was not really an issue, as the costumes were very different. And the fourth character was a last-minute substitute. If it had been made as originally planned, I think it would have sold a lot better.

Anyway, I'd like us to do more, and we regularly discuss it, but we'll see how it goes.

We were never going to START with an army builder, and even now the success of such a set in MInimate form is questionable, regardless of who is asking for it here, but I guess we'll see. It will likely not be our next release, and those who continue to hold out for an army builder set without buying what we have made will have to live with that.

If DST wants my money, DST needs to make products I want to buy. That's called marketing.

Fair enough if the market I'm part of is too small to be worth listening to.

But I'm not going to support a line in the hope that DST will make what I want. I have enough Bread and Circuses Kirks, Thank You.

I will definitely be able to live with that decision.

Most of the (over 1000) Minimates I already own are examples of DST making products I wanted.

more sales news for new series.   My only concern with the idea I presented about doing a set based on the books is that it means more repeated characters.  Unless each book got a box set which would mean overkill.  Still holding hope something can happen though.  At least the repeated characters would look different

It would be pretty funny if the success of the comics led to a new set of Duke, Scarlett, Cobra Commander, and Destro.

I'd still like Road Pig and Thrasher, but at this point the odds of a proper Road Warrior set seem considerably higher.

If you don't want Duke, Destro, etc., that's fine. If you want Duke, Destro, and a Crimson Guard, but you don't want to buy Duke and Destro to GET a Crimson Guard, that's a decision.

I’m loving the new series and books. The looks are different but I don’t think they are different enough that I would overlook my 4th Scarlett, 3rd Coco, 2nd Destro/Duke. But we could mix and match and do a Duke, Hawk, Flint and Lady Jaye and I’d stomach the repeats…

Seriously? I supported the Star Trek line right into the ground. Buying product I didn't want, in the hope that stuff I did want would come eventually, did not encourage DST to make any of those characters. Doesn't buying Bread and Circuses Kirks create a feedback loop where DST thinks that's what people want? How exactly do you tell, from a marketing perspective, when people are buying because they like the product and when they are buying to "support the line"?

To more realistically frame your post above, I don't want to buy 3 Destros and 3 Dukes in the blind hope that you might make an unannounced Crimson Guard some day. Yes, that is a decision.  It's called voting with your feet.

I wasn't around in the TOS Trek MM days, so I don't know what they were thinking, or even what a Bread and Circuses Kirk is. I was around to voice my support for the later wave, where we made captains and aliens from several different shows, and I don't think those did gangbusters either, or we would have made more.

I never said buy three. I said buy one. Have you bought any Joe MM yet? No, right? Because you want army-builders? If you want to own a Duke, and we make a Duke, and you don't buy the Duke, then you have zero say in what we make next. Sorry, that's called voting with your wallet, except you're voting for us not to make more Joe Minimates. Not trying to be argumentative, I just don't think people who essentially boycott a toy line understand how supply and demand works.
