I worked on something wacky last night, not a part of my assault on MOKF. It was fun but I'm not 100% on the final product. Ah well. It'll be ready within a week most likely.

I'm glad you like it @Padrino!

I will say that the metallic paint effect is more pronounced in-hand and I'm pretty pleased with that, but I was never fully satisfied with my solution for the helmet. The shield is Lynx-O's, two of them, sandwiched and super-glued. Using this shield also allowed it to be removable. I left/forced a gap between the two to allow for the energy effect to be inserted, which is meant to replicate his energy sword. I sliced it off a Mega Man Zero sword.

Its beautiful! I was obsessed with Red Ronin as a kid and the comics that I had of him I read repeatedly! Great work!

I don't know why it has never occurred to me before that Red Ronin (as well as the Shogun Warrior while we're at it) would also be amazing choices for David Penikas oversized customs! elhonez, I hope this doesn't feel like I'm taking away from your work at all, you know how much I love what you do. I'm thinking purely for scale.

Oh no worries KC, as obsessed as I am I'm not sensitive about my output -- I agree that oversized Mates are very cool.

When I follow that link though it doesn't take me anywhere but my FB home. Is that meant to be a link to a group?

I'm still in the market for a W68 Thunderbird if anyone has a spare to sell or trade. Hit a fella up if that's you.

This whole wave seems impossible to find online. I was looking for a spare Storm from this wave and can’t find it anywhere

Still no luck with TBird

For Shang-Chi? I wanted to use the Billy hairpiece from Predator for Shang-Chi, but that figure is no less difficult to come by.

No doubt. I've been hyper focused on the Thunderbird piece because it's kind of a cleaner hairstyle, and is already red. So no painting required, other than to paint over the chip when I cut the feather off. I was able to pick up an extra billy months ago, and I remember it taking a lot of work to get it at a decent price. I initially thought I'd use it for Shang-Chi, but now I'm using it  for a surprise deep cut in the wave.

Other more sourceable characters with bandanas in their hair include the various iterations of Ryu, and Gambit. But I'm a sick puppy, and if I find a "perfect" piece, it's very difficult for me to compromise.

But this is good, I've been getting over the hump I've been in and I'm now working on the mokf "box" in the interim.

MOKF Wave 8: Kung Faux Fighting

Acknowledgements: I recognize that I should be calling out @luke314pi and @Barry for each of my "releases," due to the fact that they wouldn't be possible without either of them. Luke for the templates I use for 99% of the decals I've created, and Barry for being the lead designer of all of the parts and portraits, the latter of which I will unashamedly reuse when and where reasonable for a character.

Who??

Shang-Chi needs no introduction, but his clone might. He was never named in the comics, but I've dubbed him Shang-Fuzhi, with Fuzhi meaning (roughly) "copy." You can understand the temptation to bang this one out given the decal work already complete for Shang-Chi.

You may also notice some similarities with the rainbow gang up there -- they are the Agents Syn, clones of the O.G. Agent Syn (the orange one), each with his own gimmicky weapon. As is the theme with most Shang-Chi villains and subplots, assassins, failure, Our Hero wins the day, yadda-yadda.

The "Build a Figure" is Samisdat, who was behind the Agents Syn, and other nefarious schemes.

Production Notes:

  • Welp. Turns out I had the Tbird hairpiece all along. I just have so many g-d parts in so many boxes I don't even know what I have anymore. I need to do some organizing.
  • I went with a separate skirt piece for the gis for maximum poseability. The robe lines are all hand-painted, which ended up breaking up the robe pattern, but was an acceptable tradeoff. I experimented with using a tiny tube (a mechanical pencil) to stencil on paint in ringlets, but it just globbed on indistinct dollops, so I abandoned that plan.
  • Another tradeoff: would've been nice to have more "3D" sleeves, but Shang-Chi's Wonder Woman bracelets are pretty iconic, and I wanted both the sleeve line and the bracers.
  • I tried to paint some black on the blue bracers to give them that "comic shine" effect like the original Luke Cage mate, to mixed success.
  • Shang-Chi uses Pai Mei's portrait (from underneath his impressive beard), Fuzhi uses Mirror Sulu, Samisdat is Omni-Man.
  • I also flipped the yin-yang symbol on Fuzhi's back, just to make him extra-evil.

flawless as always! Amazing work!

I could have sworn I replied to this post yesterday, but don't see it anywhere. As always, amazing work, beautifully done, and with a selection of obscure characters that really captures the era! Thank you for your work.

Also, I can't help but imagine the Agents of Syn having to find work after assassin-ing. Working around an office where their weapons double as toilet snakes, box cutters, letters openers, vacuums (I know it's not a vacuum attachment on the green guy, but it kinda looks like one)...

We moved MMV to a new web host yesterday, and a few comments were lost in the process, but all is well now. 😊
