Nothing to be sorry about. Like I said, I'm sure it made a lot of sense for a lot of reasons, but the timing, placement, presentation all probably didn't work the way it could have in a more developed line.

Timing was what it was, we wanted something for the convention and that made sense as a special box set. Could it have been saved until after Series 2 came out? Maybe. Did it hurt orders of Series 2? Not sure -- it looks like we offered S2 AFTER the con, and while I'm sure orders were not as strong as set 1, we did eventually sell out everywhere.

Placement, it was at a convention. Nothing really to be done about that. I think it sold well at the show, on the floor, but Diamond also took some for regular retailers. I think that is where sales were less strong. Maybe retailers saw it as a duplicate of what had come before? Or Diamond just over-ordered. Who knows.

But presentation was great! Set looked great, gave DVD-vibes in person, and I doubt people THINKING it came with a DVD hurt retailer sales, not that that was our intention.

Really, Luke is the best commenter on the set's success or failure, as an online retailer. Maybe people returned it, I don't know.

I had an issue with that set with Diamond first not charging shipping and then cancelling my order without notice or accepting that they made a mistake. They acted as if it was my fault that their system did not charge me shipping. Left me very disinterested in ordering directly from them ever again. A simple, "Hey, there was an issue with your order. We should have charged you shipping but didn't. Can you do it again?" would have worked. Instead, it was something like, "you made a mistake with your order so we are cancelling it."

I'm sorry that happened, this is the first I have heard of it. I vaguely remember something about a shipping issue, but that would have been two years ago so I don't remember the details.

I hope you were able to get the set elsewhere. If not, I believe we still have inventory, and I can send you a 20% off coupon code.

If anyone ever has a problem with customer service, I am always here to hear grievances.

@DSTZach Thank you very much for keeping the community informed for sure. As a fan of the line, I really appreciate how transparent you are. As someone who's been waiting for the PR line for years (bought two packs of the first series), I think it was a no brainer to buy both. I think I was expecting the first two series to come out, then get the movie version, and in the future some more villians/zords (or even if it branches into the other series, like Zeo, In Space etc.). Just know you have a fan in me and I'd buy very series, hopefully I speak for others!

I held off on getting the second set. I am not a huge Power Rangers fan (I know pretty much all of the characters from the OG show), but enjoyed the first set and thought they looked great as Minimates. By the time I got around to ordering the second set, they were sold out. I was surprised since the first set was still available to buy online. It sucks that I missed out on them. but it was my own fault.

I am surprised there was never a set of the bad guys released. Rita, Lord Zedd, Goldar, and a Putty would have been a great set. Do we know if MMPR Minimates are officially done with now?

Yeah, I think people underestimated the second set since it had so many double heads.

Thread necro here… but what happened to Wave 2? I know some made it out but did half the shipment sink into the ocean or something? These figures sold out super quick and you haven’t been able to find them on since they first released.

Just weird how few of Wave 2 seem to have been produced.

I looked at my files to see if I had recorded the quantities produced, but I don’t unfortunately.  They would have been in a weekly document I held, but as the items were shipped and released, they dropped off.

At any rate, my best guess is that they were just not produced in the same quantities.  Preorders for the first one were probably higher, then as sales for it dropped off, people did not order as much for set 2 to try and accommodate for the less-than-expected numbers for Set 1’s sales.  Then, when BOTH were available, consumers got more excited and bought both together, increasing the sales of Set 1, reducing the presumed dead stock of Set 1, and causing Set 2 to sell out.  It’s just an unfortunate incident that happens a lot in collecting.

This is why preorders matter so much, they are used to calculate how many items should be made in a production run.  Not just for Minimates, but all collectibles.

I don’t think people realize how preorders impact more than just collectibles. It impacts books, movies, music, everything, so thank you for explaining. :)
