Its 1:32 scale, like the old AMT bridge - so should fit with mates pretty well... at £80 I'm not sure I willing to risk it though.

Yeah, then I remembered I'm a nerd with big boy money, soooo....

I've been test fitting everything together and its all looking very promising! Have the interior dry fitted at present

Initial thoughts:

  • Basically the perfect size! Door and chairs are great for minimates - the sliding inside door is a tad short - but this may have been the case on the real set - its been a while since I've seen an episode with it in.
  • Annoyingly not really designed to show off the interior - which they market as the main selling point.
  • With a bit of tweaking you could probably mod it to be able to slide the interior out the back - or build the outside and inside of shuttle as separate models - I'll probably do this.
  • The chairs are enraging - the chairs barely friction fits in the bases so they can tilt, but this means they tend to fall off if you breath on them - will be gluing them in the upright position
  • I like that the box tells you all the Tamiya colours you need

They advise you to paint everything and slap on the decals before gluing - however there's no real colour guide, apart from the list of colours on the box (below). The decals however - the sides of the box show you where to put everything.

Some colours say what they are for, but they also just say you need red, gold and dark grey. Looking at the pictures I have annotated what I think they are for:

  • the fact red doesn't say its for reds shirts implies it is used for something else, but everything else obviously red is a decal - maybe wiring in some of the panels
  • Dark sea grey for computers - they appear black in the photos - some of the smaller consoles
  • No idea what the top 2 greys are for, as they tell you other shades for inside and outside walls and floor - upper and lower outside wall

"Aye. She's not much to look at now, captain. A bit of a fixer upper, but she's got good bones."

From outside: "Damn it Scotty! I'm a doctor not a broken down shuttlecraft!"

The Galileo is taking shape nicely - with a few alterations to the recommended colours.

In the meantime, also working on filling out my Science crew by painting/decals on a spare sickbay McCoy, Chapel and Cage Spock - annoyingly I can't find a paint colour anywhere near the right blue - anyone able to suggest one?

If not, I might repaint all the blues to be closer to the lighter toned Mirror Spock

I really wish Captain Archer had been packed with T'Pol.

I feel like I'd be disappointed by a T'Pol Minimate, no matter how good a likeness.  They could definitely do better than a stupid Zindi though. :) That Zindi season was the worst of the show.

Sadly, it was just starting to find its legs when cancelled. I think the next season would have been the best yet.

I disagree. I was lucky enough to get a Seven of Nine without misprinted facial features and it's gorgeous. T'Pol would have been a worthy companion to her, especially in one of her velvety purple/red ensembles.

Sounds good. If it can mostly just be used as a prop, I use the Trivial Pursuit Galileo. Don’t have pics at the moment but I recall it scaled alright.

I hadn't seen that Trivial Pursuit shuttle before - it definitely fits the minimate blocky style, maybe with a little paint here and there.

Made good progress with my shuttle - 90% painted - just need to mix the brown for the interior panelling and all the clear pieces for control panels - then onto the 100ish decals. Reviews say the decals don't play nice with the sculpted buttons = so need to decide whether to sand off the buttons and use the decals, or paint so, so many tiny buttons...

The chairs could do with being just a little bit lower, so mates feet can touch the ground - but this seems true of the crew that come with it as well, so who knows!

Still trying to work out how to keep the interior removable for photo purposes

Poor Scotty keeps finding pieces with no indication of what colour they should be.

Wow. I didn't realize those Bigfoot caveman things had done so much  damage to the shuttle. Repairs are coming along nicely and I'm sure Scotty will have it back together in no time. :)

As the shuttle is going well, I'd thought I'd take a crack at the reissued bridge model.

I wouldn't recommend it. The AMT original issue was notoriously gappy, and if anything the new one is worse.

The floor pieces don't fit well, I ended up with a good 1mm gap when adding the final wedge. And one side slowly rising up,which I had to weight down to ensure it dried flat.

The viewscreen and turbo lift door pieces were 1mm and 2mm too short, respectively, to fit their corresponding floor pieces. I had to file out a notch at the bottom of the viewscreen and glue a styrene strip to the lift wall.

The control panel pieces had a 1mm gap between the lift wall. And there was irregular gapping between the next 2 stations.

Too big to bridge with filler, and a pain to cut styrene to fit. Also far too much work for a £60 kit.

I will say the decals are much better and it does come with Sulu and Spock's scanners which were omitted in the original.

The chairs are a good minimate size and the stations a good height for both sitting or standing.

The 3 sets of steps are perfectly sized too.

I'll salvage the chairs, steps, handrails and helm platform and controls and I debated scratch building a new turbo lift door, with hopes of having it functional. But foreseeing how much further work would be needed elsewhere have abandoned the kit. I'll go back to my original plan of a scaled down 3d print.

Funny enough, I've got some Trek stuff in the works.

I've been playing with the idea of a bridge playset. I've been leaning towards a scaled down Mego bridge playset. A long time fantasy has been to build a functional Minimate scale version of the Mego transporter. It was sold standalone and was part of their bridge playset.

On the other  hand, I like the idea of a more realistic playset. We'll see when I get around to it.

I think elhonez would find the Playmobil one too big for Minimates. Some Playmobil stuff scales OK. Stuff for Playmobil children is almost perfect Mate scale.

There is also a Mega Bloks one that I think is a good scale and look for Mates. I never saw it at a price that made me jump and now it's even more expensive. LOL But I think it would be my pick to display Trek Mates.

I only ever saw the Mega Bloks transporter room, for about $25 at Ollies, but didn't have the room in my suitcase.

I've got a few modular bridge sets saved on etsy and thingyverse, waiting for me to pull the trigger on a 3d printer...

I've also a papercraft one saved I found online, which needs printing about 79% to be mates scale *I think*

Currently on the decal stage of the Galileo. Which is a bit of a chore. A couple are a bit wonky, but they're the side you don't see 🤫

Functional, you say? That would be a dream, and an extremely profitable one with the implications! 😁

So many projects in the works. Your reply today got me thinking and I have another idea on how to make it functional. Hopefully I get to it one day. :)

I need you all to quit making me wanna complete the main crew of TNG, please... Stop it. I have a vacation coming up. Stop. Knock it off. My wallet strains.

The galileo is almost done, just a few decals to replace some that looked badly wrinkled when applied to the sculpted control pads.

In the meantime I've been part swapping heads and hair to pad out my Enterprise crew.

20260402_213829.jpg

Command crew: need to paint over the Captain braid as I can't acetone them off without stripping the yellow off too.

I enjoy ensign Fkboi being baffled by the Vulcan harp.

20260402_213046.jpg

The Science Nerds! Have yet to find a good blue paint match, or print match for stickers. I need a new face for Nurse Not Chapel, and a regular black collar uniform sticker. Guy on the right needs his Star Fleet standard issue uniform. And the good Dr is on hand for when Bones is off on away missions, or chatting with Kirk on the bridge.

20260402_211820.jpg

Security detail. The back 3 have all been repainted, as they use the original Khan torso which again the tampo couldn't be stripped off (ask me how I know...) and need new chest stickers. Paint isn't an 100% match but close enough out of what I already had.

And a few generic space bandit types, to either back up Khan or populate whatever the planet of the week any crew land on...
