I didn't know Iron-Cow had such a history with minimates, and looks like we have a lot to thank him for! Shame DC ended, both Plastic Man and Two Face would have been incredible.

The site also has lot's of cool tid-bits and pics about each mate he helped create. Definitely a good read!

It's looking like Mattel is going to finally axe the expensive 6-inch line of DC figures. I'm sure Mattel will meet with WBCP and point fingers at DC Collectibles, a division that's doing better and better at offering high-quality figures in both 4- and 6-inchish scales lately, and accuse them of cannibalizing their sales. But what works for DCC in the specialty market obviously doesn't work for Mattel and their subscription service.

I don't know how well the Fisher-Price lines are doing but they don't appear to be slowing down. However it's a demographic that moves on rather quickly and doesn't seem to mind endless repaints of figures, vehicles, and playsets. The question is what do these young consumers move on to?

In the absence of a 6-inch line, which offers nothing in the way of vehicles or playsets, I'm guessing this is why Mattel seems to be putting more of an effort into their 4-inch scale efforts. It's a more affordable and mass market, consumer-friendly format but with the articulation they're adding, I don't expect the retail prices to be any lower than $7.99.

I'm not sure when Mattel's license with DC runs out. Maybe they're hoping that the upcoming Batman/Superman flick will do the trick. But from what I've seen, Mattel's failings have been their own and I see no reason for that to change. Therefore it's only a matter of time before they reevaluate the property and it reverts back to WB.

When that happens, hopefully someone at DST and WBCP will use the opportunity to get some DC Minimates to the specialty and mass market through the usual venues and I'll be a happier, albeit somewhat poorer collector.

Rupert already owns 21st Century Fox, home of Fox Broadcasting and 20th Century Fox Studios. Time Warner is home to Warner Bros. Studios and DC Entertainment. Combining the two media giants would have some pretty significant implications, not the least of which would be Fox taking over WB's licensing and giving DST another shot at offering DC Minimates.

Sure, we could see a Green Lantern vs. Aliens movie. We could get Archer to crossover with Scooby-Doo. But the big deal would be the renewed potential for DC Minimates and that specualtion alone seems to be driving Fox's stock price up by 15%.

We have made a LOT of requests to AA/DST bout DC Minimates. I think our case is well known by Chuck, Zach & co. Lets start targeting DC instead. They're the guys who really need to know that there is passion in the collecting community for Minimates.

The request for a response on DC Minimates is currently doing reasonably well in the current Poll, but i'm sure we can get it even more attention.

Pop on over to Facebook and add your vote if you'd like to see DC Minimates back. And remember, even if you're not a huge fan of DC, the attention that a name like DC would bring could help open up the door for all sorts of other franchises to be Minimated.

So I recently won a lot of 7 Minimates on ebay:

I bid on the lot knowing that by winning i'd get doubles of the Demitri (Turqoise) & Morrigan (Pink/Black), but i was okay with this as I was really only wanting it for the Akuma, Evil Ryu, Lilith and P1 Morrigan anyway. :tongue:

As always after getting them this morning I went through the process of adding them to my Minimate Gallery on flickr, once i'd finished I wanted to return to the Demitri (P1) in blue that i got from this lot, the first reason for this was that even when i opened them up from their envelope and checked them, instantly i noticed his hair was a different colour, so having already noticed i decided to retrieve my other P1 Demitri from my small storage box (where i keep them for the time being). I placed them side by side and noticed several differences in the two figures.

I decided then to look on Minimate Database, this would be a good start. Having done a search for Demitri it tells me he's been released 4 times in the SFII / Darkstalkers Series.

He was released twice in Series 1, in a two pack with Morrigan and a two pack with Lilith.

He was then released in a box set with Akuma, Evil Ryu & Morrigan, then Finally released in a blind pack.

Having looked at these four none of them display the same colour properties as the one I have before me, here is the original Demitri that I got in late December last year;

I haven't actually done a clear shot of them side by side yet, it's late here in the UK and i didn't want to take it using artificial light, but i'll be able to do side by side comparison shots tomorrow, if it's needed.

Out of the two figures I've noticed the one from todays lot has:

The colour of his hair is Lighter Brown than the original.

The colour of his flesh is peachy as opposed to the original which is pale.

The colour of the inside of his cape and boots is cherry red as opposed to a more orangey red in the original.

The colour of his actual outfit is also a different shade of blue.

Finally, and this is the standout difference is that the head/face design appears to be printed in two different colours? His eyes and brows are blue whilst his facial features like the face lines and mouth are black. It probably isn't that noticeable in the pictures i've offered up so far, but i'm hoping tomorrows side by side will be able to show it more clearly.

So what are your thoughts? Is this something already known to the Minimate collecting community? Is the one I have here a cheap knock off designed to look like the original but made in another factory somewhere? Or is this something made purely as a chase figure? The reason i posted up is to draw attention to it and obviously see if it is a knock off/fake or not, and secondly because i thought if it was a variant or chase i would of noticed it in the database it would of been catalogued by them already?

I am formally starting this thread to create a petition for DST. I look at all my lonely RYU minimates, and think, "Where is Ken?". That is like giving us Mario with no Luigi. Salt w/no pepper, etc. (you get the point).

So,

I say give us a Ken (red) & Blanka (green) 2 pack. That is it. I am not even begging for a E.Honda & Dhalsim, just the 2 most popular characters from the game.

In Tomart's Action Figure Digest issue #107 there's a picture of three Tony Hawk minimates. Anyone know the story on these? At which point did the line get scrapped? I'll try to scan a picture tomorrow, but they look like three inchers to me. At least they have the same elbow articulation as the Star Trek onesThe 'mates are featured in the Toy Fair '03 segment on page 47, if anyone else has a copy of this magazine.

Had anyone heard of those new-ish stores called Five Below? They're like a dollar store, but slightly higher quality with a price cap of $5 to show for it. Anywho, for some reason they have Street Fighter Minimates in stock for $2.50. They had everyone in Player-1 colors, except for the Lilith variant.
