And I'll grumpily acknowledge that that Marty will likely be a draw for people who missed the first box set. Agreed. But I do feel that Marty should have received a different facial expression. He looks bored or maybe stoned, particularly in the fancy control arty pic. I switched my one at home with the more expressive/worried BTTF 3 set head, and it is much cooler, IMO. Looking at the backs, there's no suggestion that they are pull back vehicles (like a clever icon or diagram) - I think DST was just trying to cleverly indicate that Minimates were getting some wheels. Also, I love the Max jet. looks like I spent $10 on the SDCC Max pilot for absolutely no good reason at all. It's the exact same figure. cesium salami Posted August 12, 2010 Share Posted August 12, 2010 I picked up the three vehicles at TRU today for $11.99 each. Weren't the BSG Viper and Cylon Raider around $17.99, or something really high? These didn't seem like too bad a deal at that price. My first thoughts: The Terminator HK is pretty fun. The treads on it are fake, and it doesn't move too much, but it looks pretty cool, and the Endoskeleton Terminator can fit inside of it to "drive". The "Time Machine" is what it is. Nothing too exciting other than it being a squished DeLorean. It comes with stickers, which give it some good character, although the ones on the inside almost require you to take the toy apart to get them on well. They do have instructions on where to put them, unlike the BSG vehicles. The Marty is pretty good, for those who missed the first boxset. I'm not in love with it, and if anyone really needs a BSG normal Marty, PM me and we can work something out. Also, in the set, Marty came with extra hair and hands? I guess this is something from the packaging of the Radiation Suit Marty. The MAX jet is the star of the three. Maybe it is because I had the lowest expectations, but I am blown away with how awesome it is. The plastic quality is really good. The jet seats two minimates, and you can rearrange the wings to make an awesome jet pack. I like the pilot a lot, he's very secret-agenty, but wish we had some generic SHIELD soldiers to strap in this thing. I'm definitely going to pick up another jet, so you can combine to make the bigger vehicles or extra jet packs. This vehicle came with stickers too, but half the sheet is made up of logos to put on minimates to make your own MAX team! Very cool. If this is the future of minimates, I'm in. I'll get some pics up tomorrow if no one else has by then. Overall, this is an awesome (first?) wave of vehicles. Well worth it at 12 a pop too. My only negative is that we won't be getting some of the iconic Marvel stuff. I'd love to get a Ghost Rider Cycle, Fantasticar, or a Quinjet in this style. I guess this is something from the packaging of the Radiation Suit Marty. That was my guess as well, although it's the generic slick-back hair that came with Heroes Spider-Man and some others. I already tried it on Marty but it doesn't look right, so I'm just going to give it to MAX instead. I also found the vhicle sets today (if that wasn't obvious). I didn't pick up the T2 set yet, but I did pick up the other two. Here are some pics and commentary: First up, the MAX jet. Sticker sheet and instructions: [a ttachment=8510:Minimates_MAX_001.jpg] I really like that the instructions make this one toy seem so expansive. I like the extra symbols on the sticker sheet. Just the jet: This really is a cool design. Like the BSG Viper, it looks very sleek from some angles and very pudgy from others. The only drawback seems to come from DST trying to make two figures fit in the very cramped cockpit. I had to finese/force MAX into the pilots seat and I couldn't get anybody other that a very simple mate without any accessories to fit in the rear-facing "seat". Comes with everything you see here! It took me a minute to figure out what the "MAX-trix" connectors were for without looking at the instructions. Jet pack: I love the jetpack configuration but it does look a little goofy with the clip separating the chest and crotch pieces like that. Now, on to the DeLorean Mini-Time Machine! (Mini-Time?) Sticker sheet: Can't wait to apply these! Gotta calm down first, though. DeLorean: [a ttachment=8518:Minimates_MAX_009.jpg] This definitely turned out better than I thought it would. I love the details and the translucent blue running around it is an impressive touch. The wheels move on two independent axles. I know some people (myself included) were worried about that for a while. Marty: Now, here's a pretty useless "update" of an awesome figure. The only thing they managed to improve was the hair color. The MAX Marty is on the left and the Box Set 1 Marty is on the right. First off, all the colors on the new Marty are darker and much more drab looking. There are no details on the roll-up sleve pieces or the arms. There is no extra paint app on the much darker vest. His shoes make it look like he just got finished mowing a very large, wet lawn. Overall, I like the set but I think the Welly DeLorean will continue to keep the bulk of my BTTF mates company and this set will get a spot on its own somewhere. Easy to get mixed up though, since the Rad Suit Marty was originally shown to come with both Deloreans, and is still shown in the preview pic on TRU.com. I'll be getting that BTTF set. I dont have any of the others but Marty and the Delorean is really all I need. Bring on the Ecto-1 already!
