lastmaximal
hey all, just wanted to share some excellent commissioned work from a local customizer. he mainly does ML-scale customs, or at least he has for the past few years, and i figured i'd bring some minimate designs/ideas his way and see what he could come up with in that scale. he sure didn't disappoint <img src="http://www.minimatemultiverse.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> some of these ideas are whole cloth, some are adopted from ideas seen here [Winter Soldier in particular]. DONNA TROY has a Power Girl face, i think, and Spider-Woman hair. Valkyrie waistpiece and arms, and painted starfield detailing. <a href="http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04973yz1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/7100/dsc04973yz1.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://img114.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04972hi3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img114.imageshack.us/img114/3097/dsc04972hi3.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> ORION is from a Magneto base almost completely painted over, and has a Darktide Juggernaut head and hair for now while I figure out what to use for a helmet. <a href="http://img508.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04977dl9.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/256/dsc04977dl9.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://img123.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04979dh8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/6444/dsc04979dh8.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://img170.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04978jt2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img170.imageshack.us/img170/1157/dsc04978jt2.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> X2 CYCLOPS is mostly X3 Colossus parts and a Blade coat, with a Darktide Cyclops head and repainted Darktide Cyclops hair/visor piece. <a href="http://img162.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04971xl7.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/9029/dsc04971xl7.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://img127.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04984pu8.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img127.imageshack.us/img127/3294/dsc04984pu8.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> THE WINTER SOLDIER is based on customs seen here -- with New Goblin hair and accessories, a Dr. Doom left arm, and BSG Admiral Cain body. <a href="http://img375.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04980tn3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img375.imageshack.us/img375/4773/dsc04980tn3.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04981hg3.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4241/dsc04981hg3.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> and finally, my favorite. THE SPOILER began life as a Stealth Batman body, with Spectre cape and cowl and Darktide Cyclops belt. <a href="http://img444.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04974cd1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/3368/dsc04974cd1.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a><a href="http://img108.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04975lg2.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/8053/dsc04975lg2.th.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> those interested in custom commissions can see more -- including some truly awesome ML-scale work -- at <a href="http://www.angelfire.com/planet/loosecollector" target="_blank"> <img src="http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a202/loosecollector/BANNER5small2.jpg" border="0" class="linked-image" /></a> Edited March 25, 2012 by lastmaximal

lastmaximal
just met with Dave this afternoon and there's a new handful of little critters joining my collection! these are mostly touch-up jobs and not really as extensive as the Winter Soldier or the Spoiler, but look amazing nonetheless IMO. 90s JUBILEE As with most of my stuff, this began as a quick custom. BTTF2 Doc glasses, coat and arms, SM3 Gwen Stacey torso, Power Girl gloves and legs [the upper halves of the legs are from Mr. Fantastic, i think]. JSA SAND This began life as a New Goblin. With a spare head, C3DC Catwoman belt, Darktide Juggernaut hair, and scratch-sculpted gas mask and some painted details, he evolved into the JLU-style Sand. EARTH-2 ROBIN A DCD Robin hair/head, torso, cape, arms and gloves set matched up with Ambush Bug waistpiece and lower legs [with some BTTF2 Doc upper legs], plus paint, gives us a passable Earth-2 Robin. I may switch out his face for an Invaders Bucky face, and his hair for a SM3 Unmasked Peter Parker hairpiece to make the older appearance more apparent. BLACK WIDOW Also mostly a quick custom -- BSG Admiral Cain head and hair, C3DC Catwoman body, DCD Wonder Woman right armband and DCD Steel left "Widow Sting" armband and Marvel rifle. Repainted hair. XORN This is one of the more standout pieces in this set, which is amazing considering how little actually changed from the base piece -- starting out as a Darktide Cyclops with a Dr. Doom head, this ended up becoming one of the two Xorn brothers with a bit of work on the head and face. He'll get an AXM Cyclops belt wjhen i get an extra, but uses a C3DC JLU Batman belt for now. He currently hands out with Vash's neat open-jacket Xorn custom. those interested in custom commissions can see more -- including some truly awesome ML-scale work -- at Edited October 12, 2008 by lastmaximal

lastmaximal
Oh yeah, that's right -- it was one from the first batch i forgot to include in the shots. Basically a Deadman head and Apocalypse body... . Nifty work as always. he also made this custom possible by drilling a hole in a Pocket Heroes Black Manta head. here's another from the second batch, which I wasn't sure about putting up at first. The Invaders Namor [which I have yet to get] will give me a hairpiece and head for a later Black Adam custom, but this guy currently hangs out with my Avengers. lastmaximal
new additions! 90s SUPERBOY Kon-El's old look translates well to Minimates -- a Street Justice Batman body, C3 Superman head and torso, Darktide Wolverine jacket and sleeves painted black, and a New Goblin belt round out this sweet custom. 90s AQUAMAN Continuing the 90s revival this round is Aquaman. Foregoing his shoulder armor but including his black/green trunks and golden "left hook" [heh], tweaked Stargirl hair and Dr. Fate head and a detail-painted torso with some Namor armbands and Aquaman waist/legs. 90s TEMPEST Part of the very first batch submitted, this custom is mainly Mr. Fantastic gloves and a Magneto body with lots of kickass black and metallic red paint. The Classic Robin hair and Tyrol head are placeholders for now. BLACK CANARY Caprica Six's head, Warbird's hair, Valkyrie's torso and legs, and Luke Cage's jacket are the main parts of this custom, which also features some of the straightest-lined, cleanest-painted fishnets I've ever seen. JLU THE QUESTION a DCD wave 8 Question hat and coat plus a touched-up Professor X torso and legs produce the male Question. It's possible that a better hat/hair could be worked out, but this looks pretty good on the shelf in the meantime. those interested in custom commissions can see more -- including some truly awesome ML-scale work -- at Edited October 12, 2008 by lastmaximal
lastmaximal
new set 11/16/2008! 1990s BISHOP The mass-release Bishop was an okay representation of the more recent 1999/2000s-era Bishop, so I took a spare Lobo hair piece and loosecollector painted on the goatee, short sleeves and boots, and sculpted on a bandanna. WHITE PHOENIX OF THE CROWN Fairly simple one, this: repainted Dark Phoenix body with NXM Phoenix head and hair. Shoulder and hip ball joints are fused though. GRAY POWERHOUSE JUGGERNAUT Taking on his recent gray/gold togs [like the unreleased ML recolor was going to], Juggy is also a powerhouse-torso figure now. The trouble is that the eye/mouth holes of the helmet now sit a little too high. At least the rest of him is nice and beefy. CAPTAIN ATOM Inspired by Graham's work, this is the only DC custom of this bunch [the next will likely be all DC customs -- Alan Scott, Alfred Pennyworth, Black Adam, Mr Terrific, etc -- since Marvel is still going strong]. Silver Surfer body with a Mr. Fantastic hair piece, spare Captain America gloves, and a good deal of paint. Dave was cool about remembering the JLU starburst logo I preferred over the comic's solid red starburst logo. those interested in custom commissions can see more -- including some truly awesome ML-scale work -- at Edited November 17, 2008 by lastmaximal
Chazwinski
Those are great! If Juggernaut had looked like that, I would have got one. Part of the reason I don't have one is that the one released is so skinny, he doesn't look right. Your DC minimates are depressing me, though. They would have looked so cool. Keep up the good work! TENIME_art
J3$u$, man, those're fantastic!! (And, that's the exact same face/head I used for my Aquaman, too!)
NorthRaider
I must concur on that awesome Juggernaut! And Bishop looks PERFECT. Wow, I've never heard of White Phoenix. At the rate Marvel's going, they're gonna have to start re-tooling Phoenix in every color of the rainbow.

TENIME_art
I've only seen Emma Frost wearing that...when does Jean?
lastmaximal
dag if i know, hee. to be honest i've never actually read that particular arc. think it had something to do with changing the future and the White Hot Room. from, the link above: After being killed by the faux Magneto, Jean hatched from a Phoenix Egg in the future. Sublime sought to use Jean’s Phoenix power to control all of creation. However, Jean remembered her mission and destroyed the future reality. Jean ascended to the White Hot Room as a White Phoenix of the Crown and created a new future by pushing Scott to stay with Emma Frost and continue the Xavier Institute. not my favorite plot development ever, but it resulted in Jean finally getting to wear what I read was the originally planned Phoenix costume [changed to green because of printing/color bleedthrough issues], so meh. NorthRaider
Jean hatched from a Phoenix Egg Okay, now that's weird. In the inevitable event that Jean Grey DOES comes back from the dead in 616 continuity, I wonder what color she'll be wearing. I'm betting on blue

Trekker 42
Yeah, her death does eventually get annoying. YOu know what would be a fun storyline? If in Spider-Man the real Uncle Ben returned and Aunt May died of shock and now Ben has to be Peter's guiding force. Yeah... the return of the real Uncle Ben, not as a story arc, not as a special one-shot, as a new recurring character.
