Classic Comic Colours - Pink or Purple

Recommended Posts

Thought I would post this here as we don't have a sort of wip discussion thread.

I was wandering if I could get some answers/opinions on some colours.

People like Zemo, Titania and Machine Man. In older comics they are clearly a pink/magenta colour, much like Gambit. However a lot of other sources clearly show them as purple, a quick google of Machine demonstrates this.

I'm currently trying to make Machine Man, so I bought some cheap issues of MM from the 80's and he's pink, in fact he's the perfect match for Citadel Miniatures 'Pink Horror' paint. So I adjusted my decal to this colour and it looks really off to me.

So I thought I would use 'Screamer Pink' as its more purple, which matches my idea of MM better. But is less accurate.

Which colour looks better to you guys/gals?

Pink Screamer is actually quite a bit darker than the decal, I just did a test coat of paint. I'm still leaning towards the purple but the pink does't look as bad, here are some pics comparing it.

Been playing with paint today, left to right: Screamer Pink, Screamer Pink with Pink Horror over it, Pink Horror.

They look much lighter in the picture than they do in person. I don't think painting the pink over purple is significantly different enough to plain pink. I did try mixing them which looked good, but I couldn't ever mix enough.

I might just make one pink and one purple and decide which is best afterwards.

Edit:

Found some more purple paints. Parma purple which is magenta on the torso, and Tamiya x-16 which is the purple on the thigh.
