Kubrick Talk

Love your display, where can you order cases like those?

I believe Are-Jay has now exhausted all supplies outside of Japan :D

Seriously though these are now discontinued according to most reports . They are brilliant for displaying most Kubricks but fail miserably in accommodating anything other than standard-size kubricks ......there are many non-standard size kubricks notably Spawn ,as Are-Jay has found, & many of the Disney Series' figures . These cases can still be found from ebay sellers & cost up to $100 a carton of 20 , another reason for their demise ! Paying $5 for a case that may eventually contain a kubrick of the same value is a bit disheartening however some of the figures Are-Jay is displaying are worth upwards of $100!!!

I was wondering if anyone knew where to get any of the Metal Gear Solid 20th Anni Kubs?

EBay

Also are the older ones worth it?

As with anything, that depends on how much money you have, and whether you like Metal Gear Solid and Kubricks. However, they are quite nice, particularly Snake and Ocelot.

Like you say, they can be a bit pricey. When I bought them, they cost me quite a bit, but they were worth it to me.

I bought my MGS 'Basic' set about 18 months ago purely because I liked them & not having a clue (at that time) wtf MGS was. They cost me $40 & when I got them, I liked them so much, I bought another set for a similar price. Their current cost on ebay is $60-100+ but I recently saw a set go for $42 so it's still possible to get them at a fair price. It is ...surprise,surprise... the chase pair 'Raiden' & 'Goggles' that command the big buck ($100 each) though it is possible to find them cheaper. When the 2nd series of these were released prices seemed to rise accordingly but I wonder if prices will hold? My enthusiasm for kubricks, in general, was re-ignited by Karamazov80 & latterly Are-Jay , both of whom having become fiends for these buggers. It must be said that their are some kubricks that are utter shite & should be displayed beneath the rim of a toilet-pan but there are also some pieces of sheer beauty , I consider the first series of MGS in that league. I have every kubrick MGS figure & it is unlikely I'd part with them......at any price, I may however part with my 'Olive Drab Snake' if you have a Minimate Riot Spidey you'd trade

& your name is Kylie Minogue.

Edit:

This price of $699 for the set of 8 is totally outrageous http://cgi.ebay.com/METAL-GEAR-SOLID-2-KUB...1QQcmdZViewItem

Cloud cuckoo land!

Voila My current want list! I might soon be adding the first MGS series to it IF and only IF I see them at fair prices. Also notice I don't want any Kubs from the first 7 series since now my favs are expensive and harder to find: Namely Boba, Vader and any sort of StormTrooper. :glare: If there are any other Kubs you guys think I'll enjoy please post here or shoot me a PM. :teehee:

Not sure if this has been mentioned in this thread before, but has there been any update to the Ghostbusters Kubricks that were announced around SDCC? I believed these were supposed to be out around the fall time frame but haven't seen anything since they were announced.

Any news on the SW box set with red clone captain and super battle droid?

Any pics of it either?

I'm not sure I've even heard of it but I can tell you this .....it'll be the best part of $300 which at the moment is about £220 & $200 more than what it's worth .

I'm sorry..... but these shitting things are totally out of reality now.

Went shopping tonight, and picked up something for the Kubs at the local Target. It is actually made to hold spices or something, but works really well for other purposes. Just when I was having some custom stands made, I run across this, which is perfect. Gonna pick up some of that blue tacky stuff to keep them from falling over too much.

I also picked up a case of the wave 2 Alien Kubricks today that I got for a reasonable price. There was a 50% chance of getting the Kane chase, but, I was unlucky. However, I do now have a complete set of those, including the cool, non-exo suit Ripley. If anyone wants to trade a series 1 Alien or two for some of these, shoot me a PM :) .

Nice find!! And you're right; it does look like a spice rack. ;)

Anyway, not to go too far off topic or anything, is that a Mary Poppins Kub sitting behind Snake?? If so, i officially hate you. Because it's just not fair. I want her. :P;)

It is Mary Poppins, and really has quite a good Julie Andrews likeness. Though I'm not a fan of their cartoons so much, the Disney Kubs are quite cool, and very diverse, with everything from Toy Story to Rocketeer to Nightmare Before Christmas.

Those crazy Japanese... they'll make Kubricks of anybody  (Those mayor of Halloweentown and Muppets kubs look awesomely spot-on though )

I own exactly one Kubrick: the red Spiderman from the Spiderman 3 movie series. I still prefer my Minimate version of movie Spidey to the Kubrick version, though I'm not sur whether this is due to taste or to me being bothered by Kub Spidey's weird-shaped head and somewhat clunky body.

I do also own a few of those designer vinyl Bearbricks (the ones that come in blind boxes) though. As far as I'm concerned the overall silliness of the Bearbrick concept helps make the whole artistic license thing more believable/excusable compared to actual superhero/comic likenesses (which I believe Bearbricks shouldn't touch with a twenty-foot pole). Two of my favorite Bearbricks were both chases with interesting designs: one (from series 17) is white and looks like it's been scribbled on by a kid with crayon, the other (from series 15) is actually some kind of hollowed-out Bearbrick with beads inside to market it as a "baby's first rattle"-type Bearbrick... except for some reason it has an eyepatch. Those crazy Bearbrick people.

Although my affection for kubricks is well-documented ,kubrick Spider-Man in all his incarnations suck.

If you'll pardon the expression Karamazov80 ...."Nice rack" . I notice that it seems to have holes in the base & I'm wondering if they would be compatible with the holes in the feet of the kubricks? If they were similar maybe a 'peg' could be inserted in the base & the kubrick attached to it....just a thought!

Those actually aren't holes, but rather little bumps. The gray material is a rubbery substance, and that, along with those little bumps, are there to keep spices, etc. from moving around. I have thought about looking for little pegs that might fit in their feet, and using them for my custom stands, though. Haven't had any success yet.

Awesome collection karamazov80! Lots of nice rarities in there too! And I see you picked up the Grey Fox you've been wanting, congrats! I'm quite jealous of the Ackbar and Chewbaca =) Love the stand too.

Thanks for the words, Are Jay! Yeah, a fellow board member helped me out with Gray Fox and. . .probably half of the others there :P That is probably 1/4 of my collection, anyway. I probably have almost as many Kubricks as you have Mighty Muggs! When/if I ever get enough stands to have the bulk of my Kubrick collection displayed that way, I will try to post. It will be obscene, though.

Ol' "Skiff Guard" Lando is actually out of frame there. He is a great Kubrick due to the amazing detail on his outfit, but there was no room for him or some other favorites of mine on that display:

I have bought my Kubricks from various places: EBay, this and other message boards, other e-tailers (TOYNK, Verycoolthings), my local comic shop. Some of them were gifts, some were traded for. The Early Bird set (Luke, Leia, R2, Chewy) was actually shipped from Japan, but many of those I actually bought were sold from U.S. sellers. There is actually a Kubrick message board called Kubrick Nation where you can buy and trade Kubs.

kubricks i think are a waste of time for the simple fact they dont have a great ranger of motion. the only one i have purchaed so far is lando from star war sonly because he made star wars wat it is today

A little change of heart there?

You can try BBTS, Toytokyo and the such for online stores, but for singles you might have to stick to ebay. I know a great store in Ontario to get Star Wars singles, but that is about it.

One more thing yogafire, it does not hurt to use capitals, periods and commas. Please, if you are going to post, at least put a little effort into it.
