Mega Blocks: Halo Wars...

Recommended Posts

Gotta love it when life just goes ahead and kicks ya square in the balls, am i right?? I mean, why on Earth would we ever want Halo Minimates; Microsoft deserves to make their great franchise into some worthless block company's building toy. Come on; who'd want highly detailed two-inch pieces of awsome loaded with weapons and profit rates when we can just get little pieces of crap and vehicles/playsets that need to be built?? Oh, wait...<.<

Umm, seriously Microsoft?? You've gone right ahead and turned down DST because "we already have Kubricks. It'd be far too similar" and yet you go another route and make MORE block figures, let alone from infamous Mega Blocks... I'm sorry, put this has my panties in a bunch; just look, and try to hold back barf, for yourself:

Okay, so a giant Master Chief and the vehicles are enticing. Everything else is pretty much crap. Come on, Microsoft. how much cash have you raked in with these games?? And how much did you just throw away?? I mean, not many Halo fans are going to walk into a Toys R Us, let alone to find these. I mean, at least you'd have a chance to get them in Game Stop or something with mates.

End rant.

EDIT: Yeah, i'm prepared to sliced and diced for this...especially after re-reading it...definitely flipped-out a little too much.

What are you talking about? Those are pretty cool!

While i will admit that they are fairly alright...coughcough...I, and probably many here for that matter, would prefer mates so much more. Honestly though, i only like that one vehicle...the purple one...(While I'm not a huge Halo fan, i do like he game, i just don't memorize the stuff ;) ) Mates would be much more detailed, and albeit not having Warthogs or anything, would most likely sell better. As i stated, there would be a chance for video game stores to actually carry them.

Either way, that doesn't excuse Microsoft's block figure comment. And again, this is just an opinion. I anticipated some of you to have the half-full ones, and am no way against them. ;) To me, they just suck.

Bearing in mind that DC,Marvel,Rocky,BTTF,Bruce Lee,Street Fighter,Ghostbusters,Terminator & 24 all have their kubrick versions I can be fairly confident that kubrick licenses will not directly affect a potential Minimate license for Halo.

edit: If you are directly quoting Microsoft .....things change once licenses tire .

No offense TTF, if you aren't a Halo fan, you shouldn't make such a big deal out of it. Especially calling Microsoft a "dumb ass" because they are not making toys that you want

I like these, I think i will try to save up some money for the Warthog at least....

Okay, true. I guess i was kinda hard. I just get mad when things like this happen. I mean, we've wanted Halo mates, and Mega Blocks isn't my favorite company. Mix them, and i just get a little...you know...definitely going back to edit.

However, i just said i wasn't a die-hard fan, not that i'm not a fan in general. The game is great and i'd just hate to see it wasted on something like this. I will admit, they do have some...nice...looking stuff, it just really isn't me. Still, you're right; it doesn't excuse my flipping out. I did expect more to side with me though. ;)

I'm a big Halo as if quite well known. Of course I would much prefer Minimate's and vehicles etc, but as this is the closest we will get, I quite like them. they're not completely terrible but many of the vehicles look mis-shapen, but I suppose what can you expect when curvy space age vehicles are made from building blocks?

How big are Megabloks figures? Would Mate's fit in that 'hog? And how much does a boxed set generally retail for?

Very small; smaller than Legos. It should be fine, because they always get the vehicular scale off, but you never can tell...and pricing is the same as Lego, as in usually overpriced.

I'd want these, a lot, because it'd be cool to have some Halo peoples. I don't wanna buy the Kubricks, because I hate Kubricks, so that'll be a reason why they'd sell these even if they have Kubricks of Halo.

I also want the vehicles, and hopefully the Minimates fit. It'd be sweet to have a Minimate control the Warthog.

It is disappointing that Halo didn't go to LEGO or DST. But it kind of makes sense that Mega Bloks got the license as they seem to produce more realistic and war themed sets (and the vechicals do look pretty good). Where as LEGO and Minimates are usually a bit more light hearted and fun.

You are right though Two-Face, the Mega Blok figs are pretty much the uglist mini-figures made.

Actually, those look to be in the newer MegaBloks style, ala Pyrates, Spider-Man 3 and King Arthur. Those last two lines are actually fairly close to Minimate scale and MegaBloks tends to oversize their vehicles. So, the good news is that these vehicles ought to fit Minimates quite nicely.

The bad news is that MegaBloks bricks, no matter how cool they look, never seem to quite stick together.

And TTF, I certainly understand your frustration that DST doesn't get their Minimate shot at the Halo license.

I'm gonna come out and say it:

these look like Sh*t.

Before you disagree with me, I will give you two points that might change your mind:

1st: Two Face is right. I've been pushing for Halomates for YEARS, you might have seen some of the concepts I've drawn up over the years. Megablocks don't cut it.

2nd: Has anyone here looked up Halo legos online? People used RANDOM lego blocks and built things that look FAR SUPERIOR to the crap these guys are selling.

Ill definitely be snapping up these Halo sets and primarily for the figures.

I really like what the Mega Bloks company as a whole is trying to do with their toy lines. They are all fairly affordable , interchangeable, and for the most part original concepts (outside of the franchises / licenses like Halo, marvel , etc. Im thinking of their plasma lines and Neo Shifters/ Machines lines). They are one of the few companies thats trying something different (again ill give them a pass on the above mentioned licenses and franchises as they have to survive in this market place).

Ive never been a building block buyer in the past but Mega Bloks has won me over slowly. They are far from perfect / reaching their full design potential but what they have done with Pyrates, Escape from Singapore and Legends of King Arthur was enough to grab my attention. I actually bought some Pyrates on clearance. That was my first building block related purchase in my life and e Mega Bloks made me open the wallet in less than a year after the Pyrates debut. The other big name company has had well over 20 years and still hasnt made me want to buy their product (although i did think their figures were very cool in kindergarten :D) . Mega Bloks is striking the right balance with their figure / block combination. Not perfect..but a good balance.

.....Definitely buying these and im quite sure another big name company that previously has not entered the "toy/action figure" market in the past will be teaming up with Mega Bloks in the next 2 years. The rumors are out there.

Riiiiiight, "far superior". I'd recommend corrective lenses. I'd maybe give you the Banshee and Ghost (though not "far"), but there is no way in Hades that LEGO's overpriced, pixelated-models are a better representation (at least not these examples). Besides, sculpted 2" figures with 12 points of articulation (and ball-joints at that) trumps 5 swivels regardless of your bias. Accurately sculpted weapons are just icing compared to LEGO's inaccurate rehash (a license as huge as Star Wars couldn't even get some new blaster sculpts...wow). Say what you will about quality (LEGO's are indeed nice), I've never had a problem with any of MegaBloks products (looseness or breakage), and at a fraction of the price they offer some very unique blocks.

Incorrect on every level. You might be thinking of those "Plasmaverse" fig.s. MegaBlok figures (the current models) are 2" with 12 points of articulation (ball-jointed neck, shoulders, thighs; hinged elbows and knees; swivel waist and wrists). As far as pricing goes, MegaBloks always come-in at a better value with more items at half (sometimes less) the price of LEGO.

No cb, you're COMPLETELY missing the point.

My point is that a couple of guys took some random lego pieces and put them together the make models that look better than ones SPECIFICALLY MOLDED for Halo.

Perhaps you haven't played much Halo, in which case one might think the megablocks version of the Warthog is passable... It is not however.

Looks like crap.

To be fair, I have no bias toward lego or megablocks, having never bought any of either. I do know Halo very well though, and honestly, there isn't anything wrong with the megablocks Warthog. It's not perfect but it's certainly not crap. I doubt I'll pick these up, but they do look decent.

Well thank God for that. I've been getting back into Halo recently for ODST's sake, and was gonna *attempt* to bring myself to buy a set. Of course, $10.99 for a turret and 3 Spartans is overpriced in my opinion. Hell, LEGO would get you a 2 turrets and 5 Spartans.

Or Minimates could get you really awsome Halo figures. Ya know, just throwing that out there Microsoft. ;)

They probably will not take your post seriously because you misspelled "throwing". Thanks TTF you've smurffed us all.

Oh...um...i was...i was mocking Microsoft for all of their mistakes in...in business with DST. Yea...yea, that's it... :ermm::whistling:

I have never understood why Microsoft gets the piss taken out of them so much. I have never had any problems with my PCs. The only MAC products I have ever owned are an iPod and an iPhone. I do love them but I have never used a MAC so I can't declare it's greatness over Windows.
