karamazov80
So, I've noticed a few "Kubrick-like" figures on eBay, that apparently are not official, licensed Kubricks. For instance: http://cgi.ebay.com/TERMINATOR-2-JUDGEMENT...1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/Star-wars-EMPIRE-STRIK...1QQcmdZViewItem They look more more generic than other Kubricks, and are obviously much cheaper. Does anyone know if they are knock-offs of some kind? Are they officially licensed or not? If anyone has any of these, can you attest to their quality? I considered buying the Terminator ones a couple of times in the past, but their overly Lego-ish faces really turned me off. Should I reconsider? Although I don't own the ST sets (Starbricks I believe) I have seen them 'in the flesh' & for the money, they are OK . I do have the T2 set(somewhere) & much the same can be said about them, they are OK. Sorry about the lack-lustre review but that really is all that can be said. More to the point of my reply. In the Far-East 'Kubrick' has become the generic term for small block figures & many people will describe any block figure as a 'Kubrick'. This is not essentially an intentional method of deceiving potential buyers but it can be confusing. There seems to be more & more block-figures jumping on the bandwagon, some good & some bad,Kubricks & 'Mates lead the way by far. Nothing wrong with these but to emphasise my point .....these ain't Medicom Kubricks: http://cgi.ebay.com/KUBRICK-GATCHAMAN-FIGU...1QQcmdZViewItem Edited June 5, 2008 by buttheadsmate
Shanester
I had the T2 set and a KO Spiderman. Both were aquired in an Ebay lot. The quality does not match that of Medicom, but they would be good for a custom fodder.
Trekker 42
That Star Wars set reminds me of something I once got from the Disney Store which they no longer have. They weren't that good and highly uncustomizible. Not worth 20 bucks, but if it went lower then I'd reconsider. As buttheasdmate said, they're ok. Cappy
Those particular sets are, as the others have said, *meh* in quality. The Star Wars are definitely unlicensed knock-offs. I have come across another SW bootleg, Vader & Stormtrooper only, that are of much higher quality. This was before Medicom released their own versions of those characters. And I have a couple of Spider-Man ones that are great also. They're not the ones you see all over eBay which usually come in a set of 3. Which means Kubrick bootlegs can be nice, but usually aren't. Because they are, after all, bootlegs. I would be leary of block figures trying to pass as Kubricks, as opposed to figures that simply have a resemblance to Kubricks (like the ones in bhm's link above).
