Possible Downtime

Recommended Posts

We've pretty much outgrown our current server, which is slightly annoying as its paid for until next July, but its impossible to up the bandwidth allocation here so we're going to have to move.

Theres no timescale for this as of yet as I havent even began to shop for a new host, but I figured I'd keep you all in the loop just incase we exceed our allocation here in the mean time.

If all goes well there should only be an hour of two downtime during the move.

Also if anyone knows any good web hosts that offer MySQL access, PHP, and around 20gb of bandwidth a month please let me know.

I'll keep you all updated as I know more, and yes all posts, topics, EVERYTHING will be moved, none of this wiping malarky.

If anyone is interested we're getting around 28,410 page requests a day on average and an average of 260 unique visitors per day, and thats excluding bots such as google et al. So we're seemingly pretty popular.......

Truly a case of "If you build it, they will come." Kevin Costner would be proud. Now if I can only figure out how to get that much traffic over at the HQ...

Forums will always be different to websites, Fujis. I wouldn't worry about it.

People constantly check in to view new posts etc, it's much more immediate than reading one article per day like on MMHQ (and much less than that on MMC).

Yup as Danny says though forums are a much more "living" entity than a website, hence the insane amount of page views we get every day, a better comparison between site traffic is to go on unique, botless visitors, or just unique visitors if you can't filter out bot traffic.

Eeek. I pop in quite a few times in a day. Didn't realise it'd have a detrimental effect on the Bandwidth though. Perhaps we should work out a shift system? :D
