Not that I'm calling BS, but how many of how many $90 buy now Mini-Javs have we seen sold... Personally, I think the $200 Javelin was a fluke. I guarantee the next one that hits eBay doesn't go for half that. If you catch the right group of consumers at the right time, you can market anything for way more than its worth. And on a side note, I don't think AA values any customer who's willing to score a profit off of bootleg minimates, regardless of how rare the character is. But then again, that would mean that they do value some of their customers, which can be an iffy assumption at times.
Amazing.JL
I agree that $200 javelin is just a fluke the next one will not go as high. No offense but they must be newbies and maybe a little crazy.
drgnrbrn316
So long as they're happy with their purchase, I guess it doesn't matter how much they spent. After all, worth is in the eye of the consumer.
Cloneme
I picked up a storm cyclops 2-pack yesterday, opened it up and storms arms broke off at the torso, they were SO frozen I tried to ease 'em free but didn't work!!!!! Oh well good thing she's custom fodder, I got another just in case. I just wanted to pose her how she is on the box :(
highassroller
Can you imagine if Target mass released the Javelin Set too? I think that might help collectors and sellers appreciate more limited character runs. If you are a hardcore collector, there is a certain thrill and satisfaction knowing you have something others do not. Regardless, I don't think I need to defend myself as I mad clear points and those who are collectors and sellers understand where I come from. I think if I hooked up people on this site with Manhunters for $20.00, those who buy them will be happy to complete their DC set, others who don't buy them (already have them) will of course view me as a scalper. AdyCarter
Thats why they make chases and the like. A mass re-release of the javelin set wouldnt bother me, as I never bought it on the grounds of its rareness. Im a hardcore collector and knowing I have a Gold Spidey does me nicely. Jatta Pake
To those worried about completing a collection - I'd bet anyone $20.00 we see an official Martian Manhunter re-released at some point in the future. He will probably be green instead of gray though. If bags of Martian Manhunters are floating around China for a $1.00 a bag, how come we haven't seen a flood of Manhunters appearing on Ebay? I'm just too skeptical. No offense, HAR, but I just don't believe Minimates bootlegs are that widespread and available.
Cloneme
Okay so that's one nightcrawler leg and a storm arm and another storm arm..... So Death Toll: Storm x 2 Nightcrawler x

I think most people couldnt care less, except for you've clearly stated that they would be bootlegs and they'd be costing you $1 a bag. Ady, Once again, let me go over why I need to charge these prices.... in detail Round trip Tickets to China: $1,100+ Limited room to lug around suitcases Danger and leg work of going to the free market Hotel Stay and Food for 1 week: $1,000.00+ Also, I don't just buy "bags" of them. It's not like they are in nap sacks to buy. I meant there are alot to buy. They go for about $1.00-$2.00 USD each minimate. Sometimes they are on cards and they cost about $4.00 USD. Not for the bag of them! Sigh... Do you have any idea how many I need to sell to break even on the trip? I only have enough room for a dozen or two of these. You make it sound like this is a cash crop waiting to blow for me. That is not the case. I'm really going looking for rares and uncommon mates. Honestly, I'll probably be stuck looking at dozens of Street Fighter figures, and they will no doubt be in blind boxes.
AdyCarter
Eh? So you're now saying you're making this trip just to get Minimates? Thats a little nuts, no... wait... its compeltely insane. Why not just give the $2000+ to charity?
TBT!
HAR.... Erm... Good luck with a business venture that means you're forking out over $2-3k to buy minimates to sell back here. Say you buy 100 minimates that you can sell for $20 each, that's $2k which is more or less the cost of your expenses. it doesn't cover the cost of purchasing the mates or factor in the depreciation of those mates value because you are flooding the market. all this is of course assuming you sell them all! If you do go then curious to hear of your adventures, but if you're planning it as a get rich quick scheme... you're going to be pretty dissapointed. T. T. So bootlegs in China are: 1. The same high quality plastic 2. The same high quality tampo painting 3. Carded or blind-boxed 4. Cost $1.00 to $4.00 each. I was worried I needed to go to China to get some Minimates bootlegs. Turns out there are a bunch down the street in that French store, TAR-ZHAY. I'm sorry, HAR, but these sound like official releases for the Asian market.
Fujis
Jeez, guys, why don't we cut HAR some slack? He said he was going to China to visit family. Searching for bootlegs is just a part of that trip. And honestly who wouldn't sell some Minimates to make some money back? $20 for a Javelin is perfectly reasonable especially considering that one is selling for over $200 on eBay right now (although I doubt that'll ever happen again). And besides, we could get to see some potentially wicked knock-offs, and by wicked I mean so poorly executed that they're awesome!
highassroller
I would never go all the way to China to only get minimates. I have family there, and will literally only get 1 or 2 days to go to the free market. I'm also going to get some name brand clothes at the free market. The figures in China, may be just retail from China, rather than boot legs, due to the high quality. Either way, they are very inexpensive there. It's like getting Polo or Ralph Lauren Clothes from the free Market. Many believe they are just stolen or overstock rather than bootlegs. Either way they are inexpensive. Why is everyone thinking that I'm going to get 20 Martian Manhunters? Like I said before, the only minimates I saw last time were Street fighter ones. Cloneme
Whoa!? You're going to get 20 martian manhunters?!?!?! At least JP kept the thread on track. Like I said My marvel minis keep breaking from target.
boyd
Right there with you, Cloneme. Broke two hip joints on the Target Nightcrawlers trying to work them loose. And the Colossus mates all came with their chests on backwards. The quality control on some of these mates seems non-existant.
Cloneme
I think maybe running them under cold or warm water might help..... or WD40 I dunno! Why AA, WHY!?!?!?!
Resurrection Bob
So that's at least three of us that have broken Nightcrawler hips? Man, when I finally get a replacement, I'm just leaving his legs alone.
Jatta Pake
At least JP kept the thread on track. Like I said My marvel minis keep breaking from target. My Targets are all dry. How is it that San Diego has the new X-Men Minimates but LA doesn't? I want to break some for myself, dammit!
Cloneme
I have figured it out!!, take a part your minimate as much as you can to isolate the joint you are having problems with. THEN....squirt the smallest amount of WD40 right in the joint and let it do it's seeping thing. Then grap the piece as close to the joint as possible, slooowly start to turn the piece after about 20-30 seconds and it should wiggle free. Then what you want to do is take some dish soap to cut the WD40 and rinse rinse rinse with warm water and that little bit of dishsoap. Good to go. There's one storm I didn't break. Third times a charm**grumble grumble** JP-speaking of minimates not showing up, only one of the Target's here have 'em. Have you gotten the TRU sets yet?
highassroller
Wow! I can't believe you have to do all that bull shit just to get the joint moving! Damn, I hope the future waves don't continue this tread. Just an idea, have you folks tried freezing your minimates? That might be a good way to get the legs loose. Plastic shouldn't become brittle if you put it in the freezer for 15 minutes, but the pegs and limbs should loosen up a bit.

The problem isn't shrinkage or expansion, it's the painted joints.
