Shanester
The Sideshow "PFs" are all things of beauty. Mixed media pieces of this size are just amazing to see. When I first saw the Hulk PF at SDCC, I was awe struck. The detail is amazing. These things keep their value very well, also. Most all of them can now be sold at a nice profit. karamazov80
Yeah, the potential increase in value is another consideration regarding the price. If I saw a Hulk PF for, say $500, I would immediately buy it, because it looks amazing and I would love to own it, but now it goes for $800+ on eBay now (originally sold for $330 or so). Doctor Doom has frequently sold for $1,000 or more. But as Shane says, you have to see these in person to understand how this could be the case. luke314pi
Luke, was your Cap the Exclusive version? I don't know how the pieces are connected, but the arm of mine seems sculpted to the body (mine is the non-exclusive). I guess the glove is glued to the arm, so maybe that could fall off? Or maybe the part with the bicep is glued to the "core" body? Yes, I have the exclusive, and the arm with the different shield swaps out at the end of the glove via a strong magnet. It was lying on my desk with a big chip in it when I got home from work one day, but it must have gotten bumped, because it never falls off by itself. Its just one small casualty of having two small boys running around the house.
karamazov80
Ooh, sorry to hear that. Glad you could patch it up somewhat. Regarding PFs, just saw this today: http://www.sideshowtoy.com/?page_id=7937 Unless I find a great deal on a Hulk in the meantime, this will probably be my next PF. I really would like to pick up a Thor PF and Classic Iron Man Comiquette to go with my Cap, as well as an Indiana Jones PF before all is said and done. The woman's favorite Disney character is the Evil Queen, so she's gonna get that one!
handsomedevil
Also, you probably know this, but the "premium format" figures are not 1/6 scale articulated figures, but rather 1/4 scale static statues, meaning they are pretty dang big and they stay in one pose. I knew they were statues, but I didn't realize that they were that big! You guys have sold me. I'm going to take the plunge and preorder Darth Talon. I will rationalize it by saying it is an early income tax return splurge! If I love mine as much as you love yours, I think I may have to start selling off all my puny little articulated toys to finance a new obsession! ...and since the PFs aren't really 1/6th scale, maybe we should start a thread for them since we've derailed this one pretty badly thanks to me! luke314pi
Anyone planning on picking up the Hot Toys Blade figure? I wish he had been in his Blade I outfit instead of Blade II. Also, I think his face needs to be more narrow. I might wait for this one to drop in price.
karamazov80
I like it a lot actually, but Blade isn't the iconic sort of comic character that I feel the need to spend $150 on. If Hot Toys does a Ray Stevenson Punisher, though. . .
karamazov80
Speaking of Blade, any Blade Runner fans out there? http://cgi.ebay.com/custom-1-6-Blade-Hunte...=item2ea90291b9 I am very tempted to get this bad boy, but I passed on the recent Deckard, which now fetches a high price on eBay, and am not sure if a Batty would do by his lonesome. If I knew this was coming ahead of time, I would have picked up a Deckard earlier. This is not an official, licensed release, btw. Punisher
Sideshow's Firefly pics were released today. Really doesn't look like the Firefly I know.... Edited November 24, 2009 by the punisher=D
karamazov80
That is the most disappointing toy news I've seen in a while. He looks like a generic Cobra spy. Not Firefly by any means, and I'm most likely not buying him. If they would have stuck to the concept art, I probably would have picked up at least 2. Here he is, for those interested. Cool looking figure? Sure. Firefly? Hell no! Edited November 25, 2009 by karamazov80
TM2 Dinobot
I found the Dragon NYPD sniper for $10 at Tuesday Morning. Does anyone think she's worth it? http://www.entertainmentearth.com/item_arc...iper_Figure.asp
karamazov80
It is worth it if you think it is. You would probably have to pay that much for the rifle and bag alone off eBay.
Docholliday666
$10 bucks is worth it. THe rifle and bag, as Sam mentioned are very nice pieces. And there aren't that many 1/6th female figures.
Shanester
For $10, I would have jumped on it. Dragon does an amazing job with their 1/6th and was probably the premier 1/6th company until Hot Toys upped their game.
Fizzle
What state did you find her in? I've been scouring the TM's here in MD for a couple of weeks and have found no Dragon figures, or really any toys of interest.
karamazov80
I live in Louisiana, and don't remember ever seeing Dragon figures at Tuesday Morning. Lots and lots of Barbies, though. Edited November 25, 2009 by karamazov80
TM2 Dinobot
So I took yall's advise and went back and got Wynona. You were right, good figure, and I feel like I did good for $10. The only problem is she has a loose head. They also had Atilla the Hun and some Japanese dude, but I passed.
Shanester
You really can't go wrong with Dragon stuff. They were the pinnacle of the 1/6th world until Hot Toys upped their game. I have a few Dragon pieces in my office. Some Germans and the Apollo 13 Astronaut.
Mattallica
other than the missing camouflage on the Balaclava it seem like a very "realistic" version of this
karamazov80
I think that Sideshow is trying to tip-toe the line between keeping these figures modern and "realistic" looking, and maintaining a connection to the older toys, cartoons, and comics that many of us knew as kids. But with this one, I think they stray a bit too far from what he originally was. Sure, he looks cool as a modern terrorist guy, but is that Firefly? Well, he has lots of cool gear that is appropriate to the character, he has a gray color scheme (sort of), he wears the balaclava, he has the really sinister eyes, all fine. But he's wearing some kind of arctic jacket instead of some regular-type fatigues with a turtle neck underneath (though a kind of ribbed sweater still appears under his jacket), and his iconic gray camo has been replaced by a plain gray on his balaclava and looks to be shades of green/gray on his jacket/pants. In my opinion, they remove too much of the essence of his iconic look, and I think the figure suffers a bit because of it. However, I've warmed to it a bit as time has gone on, and I'll try to mod him a bit to reflect the more recognizable look. I actually wouldn't have minded so much if he wasn't one of my top 5 favorite Joe characters, but. . .the hoodie is just weird to me. Mattallica
what i want to know is whats the deal with the apple?
karamazov80
Firefly was best known for his ability to genetically engineer giant, evil apples that would do his bidding. That's why his arch enemy was biological warfare specialist Airtight. Or maybe it's there for scale Edited December 2, 2009 by karamazov80
Shanester
There is a lot of dislike for the current Firefly prototype and its warranted IMO. Not as bad as the flames over the HT Alien (Big Chap) though...
TM2 Dinobot
I really hate that Firefly, but it's Sideshow, so it doesn't surprise me. This has me dropping my jaw in amazement. http://toysrevil.blogspot.com/2009/12/this...das-by-hot.html
karamazov80
"Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?" Hot Toys also just announced another Iron Man. . .sort of: http://www.hottoys.com.hk/index.php?target...;product_id=496 Looks pretty great, particularly the headsculpt, but I'm not a big enough fan of the film to be interested.
