Wasnt the original mask a painted kirk mask?

If it was the hairpiece seems quite appropriate.

Wow, I just checked on Wikipedia, and you are correct sir. That is a really cool coincidence. From the article:

Tommy Lee Wallace, writer/director of Halloween III: Season of the Witch, was the production designer/co-editor on Halloween, and it was up to him to find "the perfect mask" for the Michael Myers character. The mask was intended to have a "blank face", and the William Shatner Halloween mask he found was exactly what he needed, "It didn't really look like anybody." Wallace cut the eyeholes larger and rounder, removed the eyebrows and sideburns, poofed up the hair so it looked "demented and strange" and finally spray-painted the mask white. Wallace explains, "It created a shiver right in the room, and we knew we had something special." John Carpenter claims that the mask looked nothing like William Shatner whatsoever, but joked, "I guess I owe the success of Halloween to William Shatner." According to Jamie Lee Curtis, the mask needed to be a "human image", and the only thing in stores at the time that matched what they needed on set was the Shatner mask.

Here are some Hellfire goons to go with the Hellfire Club:

Face and chest are decals (coming soon to the Factory), and the guns are from BrickArms.

Snake Plissken (Escape From New York)

More decals and another BrickArms gun. :)

And in case you missed this one in the secret santa thread, Union Jack:

Luke - You may have mentioned this before, but what kind of paints are you using? You've matched the decal colors perfectly. Are you mixing paint or are you trial-and-erroring the decal print colors.

Thanks! I mix the paint (Model Masters by Testors) to match the decal colors. Doing it the other way makes sense too though, I might have to try that. :)

Edit: The Hellfire Goons use the BSG blue military uniforms as a base, and I matched the decal color to the dark blue minimate color.

... I'm at a loss for words. All compliments have been handed out, and I don't want to risk making your head too big, it might explode, then we wouldn't get to behold your little works of art :P

By the way, have you ever used Liquitex paints? I bought some Soft Body Acrylics over the weekend and was wondering if you have any opinions.

BS

No, I have never tried them. Let me know what you think. I am always interested in trying new paints. :)

Thanks everyone!

I'm not so much into Escape from New York and I personally think that Kurt Russel plays in the same league of bad action actors as Steven Seagal does ( ), but your Snake Plissken is an awesome custom! I like the way he's realy simple in some way. And in fact I was looking for a way to put decals effectivly on a black mate. The grey shade you used looks exactly like what I was looking for. I'm trying to use that idea...

Say, how do you create your decals? You draw them by hand I guess, and I see you're pretty gifted in that case, but what kind of examples and references do you use to draw face expressions that look minimatish? Do you take a pic of the real Russel/Pissken and do a freehand sketch, or do you arrange them by using other face samples, like Nick Fury's patch, Cpt. Kirk's mouth, etc. that might fit? Or are these the secrets you'd never reveal?

Oh, and by the way, the goons and the union jack are pretty adorable as well. Of course.

I actually make all of the decals in Adobe Illustrator. I do use some facial features from some of my decals with other ones, although modified to be a different size or shape. You can download a 30 day trial of Illustrator at adobe.com, but you might want to wait a few weeks. I am working on a tutorial right now on how to make decals using that software, and you wouldn't want it to expire before the tutorial comes out. :)

Hellfire Club

DSC07865.jpg

My camera was out of batteries, but I was able to snap one picture of this set before it died. Normally I would take dozens of pictures while moving the light source, so I wouldn't get that glare on the minimates, but it was unavoidable here. From left to right they are Donald Pierce, Sebastian Shaw, Jean Grey as the Black Queen, and Jason Wyngarde (Mastermind). There have been many other members of the Hellfire Club, but I wanted to focus on these four. I will also be making some goons. I am just waiting for more parts to arrive in the mail.

The men's coats are modified from New X-Men Jean Grey coats. The Black Queen is a repainted Emma Frost with repainted Pepper Pots hair. Shaw's hair is a modified Wolverine hairpiece to give him his trademark sideburns. I can't recall where the other hairpieces came from.

WOW - All of your customs are brilliant, but those Hellfire Club Inner Circle figures are pretty close to PERFECT! The Hellfire goons are excellent too. Really impressive work. I just don't even know what to say to adequately compliment your work . . .

AA - if you're reading, give this guy a job NOW!
