X-Men First Class moviemates

Hopefully I can get the Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw together... For people complaining about these, would you really like it if they revisited the Wolverine origins, and we got the same figure with each pack albeit in a different costume but nonetheless. I think these figs look better than any movie mates they've done in the past, (up till this season). Plus we get Angel, and with a little help from my extra New mutants box set I bought for extra clothes, I'll finally get original Angel for my FA X-Men.

Sure, they could be worse! But that doesn't make them good IMO :D

These look accurate enough to the film, I just don't think Marvel movie characters work very well as Minimates in most cases. The recent exceptions from Iron Man, Thor, and Cap, are those that come closest to looking like comic versions of those characters IMO.

my goal is to make a comic accurate x-men team using these to go along with ironman, cap, thor. my idea so far is firstclass charles bodies because they dont have muscle detail so they could work as female or male. than id use the new movie hydra helmets for their masks and use various parts from the first class comic set to make angels wings, cyclops visor etc. oh and for beast id use his movie body with magnetos legs and arms

Say what you will about the X-Men Origins: Wolverine Minimates, but I have a soft spot for them. They are what got me started on Minimates, so they will always have a special place in my heart.

The detail on some of those is quite nice. When I actually sat down and took in some of the Wolverines, I was genuinely impressed by the detail and quality. However, they're still not very interesting on the shelf IMO.

So how do you guys think these'll get distributed? Two 4-packs or four 2-packs?

My guess would be distribution will be through bargain bins everywhere ;)

I know it's the movie costumes not the minimates that make them bland but oh my those costumes suck!

I'm not saying anything bad about the Wolverine minimates per se, but when they're offer the same character over and over again and the only difference is a puffy jacket, or a Sgt. Rock outfit, it feels a little played. I think the details were great, in fact I just bought a Wolverine/Blob pack about 2 weeks ago. Who doesn't like a big boned minimate with a fat girl tattooed on their arm?

All I have to say is DST had better make these the shortest production run since BTTF1 and X3 if they know whats good for them!

Seconded.

Also, why isn't there a Moira MacTaggart (sp?) Minimate? As long as it at least nominally resembled Rose Byrne, I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Emma and Shaw make this worth it for me. I've been clamoring for an updated Emma for ages, and this one will do fine. Shaw...well it's Sebastian Shaw. He's about as required as Sinister for an X-men fan, especially Jean and Emma fanboys. It's probably a good thing he doesn't look like Bacon because of that.

The uniforms...aren't bad per say. If anything, they ARE accurate; that's all i could ask for. I'm sure they'll look fine together, but Gods will this movie be a mess.

I get it, Fox rushed the movie to keep the liscence...minimates can re use existing parts, and in this case slap a tampo on a blank body and BOOM x men first class mercendise in time for movie release...

but as said above, when the bar was rasied with thor and cap...these look. well cheap...

Yeah - after seeing how beautiful the Thor mates look, these look a bit dull :(

And as it has already been said, i'm pretty bummed about not getting a Banshee mate. Maybe TRU will give us Moira, Banshee, a helmetted Magneto & a Dark Magneto?

(In the preview he seems to go from X-costume with Black/Grey Helmet to Black costume with Red Helmet. I'm assuming that's after he 'becomes' magneto?)

Me, too. A Banshee would be great, as would a 616 Sunfire, and maybe an updated Thunderbird.

Going over some misc thoughts...

1st, I saw a couple people talk about Azazel's "claws" on the first page. They're not claws. He's Nightcrawler's dad people. Think about that one. (Or look at this link: http://minimatedatabase.com/figure.php?i=1...;n=Nightcrawler)

Second, I'm seeing alot of praise for Mystique, and I get it from the neck up... her head looks great. But I hate her body. I have no use for a Mystique mate in an X-Men uniform. Even if she is one for portions of the movie (as I assume her to be, obviously, based on what we've seen) I'd still have prefered naked Mystique. Much more useful if I could use her to double as an X1-X3 version.

Shaw looks lame. Doesn't register as the character or the actor. Just looks like a generic guy in a tux. (Took me twice as long just to figure out who that was. At first I thought it was Hank McCoy.)

Overall... i dunno. I'll buy them, because I have a complete collection of Marvel Mates, beyond gold and silver spidey, and I'd like to maintain that collection. But it really is a lackluster lineup.

And I blame the movie for that, not Diamond. Hard to make merchandise with a good lineup when the actual movie... doesn't have a good lineup.

Everything about this movie just screams "disaster waiting to happen" to me.

I am seriously not getting the negative vibes here.

Yes, the movie was rushed through production so Fox could hang on to the rights. Plenty of films are rushed and do better than films that have plenty of time. (See The Empire Strikes Back vs. The Phantom Menace.)

Yes, these 'mates are using existing parts in order to get released as close to the movie date as possible. As many here pointed out with X3 Minimates, that series would have performed better had it not been released long after the movie hit. This is an attempt to address that but I guess you can't please some people.

I've also read some block figure purists complain at length about all the sculpted pieces on Minimates over the last few years, to the point that what used to be the body has now become a skeleton. I hope like hell none of those purists are dissing this line.

This is the first toy offering I've seen from this film, probably due to the rushed production schedule. If the movie does well, DST will be well positioned as one of the few – if ONLY – toy manufacturers ready to satisfy demand for tie-in merchandise. Even if the movie doesn't perform well, there are plenty of toy collectors and 'mate-heads who will scarf these up and allow DST to break even.

All things considered, this was a good decision by DST and the best execution possible given the timeline. As a collector who prefers movie-based toys, I'll gladly add these to my collection and hope for more down the road.

i agree with you on everything except one point you tried to make, THESE ARE NOT THE BEST HEY COULD DO WITH THE TIME FRAME. even with the peices released we could have seen something better, havok with beast's hair from the silver age set. emma in her burlesque outfit (all painted on) with the cape from whitequeen/loki, magneto with his helmet (im seriously doubting these will come with any acsessories) and finally an azazeal that doesnt look like a red guy squished into a tiny little outfit; they could have used an actual jacket peice and given him one of the new bamf stands and given him ANY other hair

I really don't mind them at all - my main concern is that i think the blue of the costume is a bit too similar to the blue of beasts fur, so i do hope the final product i a little different.

Either way - i'll be buying all of these.
