Modifying Marvel Minimates

I can't see Skin or Synch being made. They've both been dead for early 20 years and have virtually no footprint in any form. Maybe one of them as a BAF (Synch i guess as Skin would be too interesting and deserve extra parts for powers).

Chamber, Husk and M - them I can see - and Jubilee i guess - but all of them being packed with someone who can pull their weight. Like a Phalanx Covenant or Operation Zero Tolerance wave so they could be thrown in with, say, 90s Savage Bandana Wolverine or purple costume Storm or something more people would actually buy the set for. And sadly, no, Emma does not count.

And most of the Generation X lot have individual tweaks to the uniform making swapping parts impossible... and unfeasible...

Of the males - all 3 of them do not have match skin tones for starters. Synch is the only male wearing a full uniform, Chamber usually doesn't wear the uniform and when he does he has his trench coat over it (and Chamber should probably come with the alt look of his face scarfed and the costume most people recognize rather than dumping him in the uniform and jacket look just so you can give parts to make someone else) and then Skin has sleeves, shorts and a v-cut on his neck so there is not a single part of him that could be used to make someone else.

Females - again, all 3 of them do not have matching skin tones and would have skin showing on the chest piece above the zip... Husk would be much better off coming with parts to reflect her powers rather than shoving in a chest block and a face just to make M or Jubilee, and Jubilee wore a jacket over her uniform a lot too.

The one way i can see us getting the whole lot would be... I think a 4-pack could be a way to balance it out, a Con exclusive 4-pack and still even bolster that with the not entirely necessary variants of Emma or Banshee and Jubilee. Say a 4-pack of Emma, Banshee, Jubilee and Skin - that way the combined pull of the first 3 together almost makes it sales viable and Skin gets the help of the other 3. Then put Chamber, Husk and M in an actual wave, each packaged with someone that could actually sell (or Husk and M as variants with an army builder), with Synch as a BAF.

And if you think we'd ever get Gaea or Mondo, you're being really bonkers. I'd be surprised if we got an Emplate but I wouldn't say it's impossible, just very unlikely (I mean, can you imagine a a kid-friendly looking toy with the write-up "Emplate sucks out children's marrows for food").

I find your lack of Penance disturbing.

I think Husk and Jubilee could get away with using the same skintone. I realize one is a blonde white girl and one is Chinese... but... Jubilee, frankly, is often drawn looking very Caucasian. Thanks to the 90's cartoon there are many casual fans who just assume she IS white. Her 90s and Strike Force minimates both look fairly Caucasian to boot. They could get away with it in minimate form.

That said, I agree, that I don't think any of them have great odds. Just wishful thinking really.

I do think the surviving members who went on to become actual X-Men have a better chance of slipping into waves in their modern forms, than we ever have of seeing a whole wave of Generation X minimates. Similar to the way we randomly got characters like Siryn & Warpath, slipped into odd X-Men waves. I could see M getting into a random wave one day (or if they ever blessed us with Modern X-Factor, she could easily fill out a 2-Pack)... Husk has been a secondary X-Man long enough to pop in virtually anywhere if we were lucky someday. She'd make a good partner for a random Archangel, as they had that romance for a while. Chamber... I feel like his odds were better 10 years ago. When he was still actually an active X-Man. He's kind-of fallen into the background/limbo a lot in more recent years.

I feel like Skin had good odds back in Gen X's heyday, but yeah, now he's been dead for too long. Synch, frankly, I don't think ever had great odds, he didn't even make the retail lineup for the Gen X action figures as I recall (and was a toyfair exclusive, I want to say). And being dead and 20 years later certainly doesn't help his odds now.

Skin tone really isn't an issue there are plenty of images with everybody all done up so you could totally do the main 6 with only one male and one female chest block .They could easily do a box set with Chamber (with what ever fire blast add ons they care to make to give him an alternate look), Synch  with a skin head arms and legs, M with a Husk head piece and Jubilee and if they really wanted to be generous throw in an extra set of the red arms and a Gaea head. They would have a box set that everybody would buy two of with out much in the way of new tooling. As for whose dead and inactive and whatnot I don't think it would be much of an issue because it would be a specialist market thing anyway.

I feel like Chamber would be easier to convert into Synch than Skin would, TBH.

Slap a leather jacket piece, new head and arms, and an around the neck energy effect onto a basic red torso and legs and you have Chamber.

Wheras Skin usually had bare legs and arms, and a lowcut neckline, as was mentioned earlier, meaning he'd need to replace not just the head and arms, but all four limbs. Possibly even the torso block. At that point all he retains in common is the crotch piece.

And Jono's handkerchief face vs. energy blast face would be easy enough to achieve... just print the handkerchief on the head block, and hide it under the (removable) around the neck energy effect.

The girls I do think would be much easier swaps. Husk and M could be as little as just the head. Jubilee is head + coat (so arms as well)

I can't see where we'd ever get a boxed set without an Emma in it. We might be able to get away with skipping Banshee, but Emma is more relevant now than she was then. That said, that's too many spots. Emma, Husk/M, Chamber/Synch leaving Jubilee and/or Skin. Unless they pushed the female figure to a triple conversion between Husk/M/Jubilee.. but I think they try to avoid situations like that, because they don't want to force collectors to buy 3 sets to get the entire set. (and wind up with numerous doubles as a remainder)

Man.  I always forget how sharp those costumes are.  They are way more striking than those Blue and Yellow strike force uniforms and it's a shame they've gotten so little play in the action figure arena.

More on topic, I totally agree with Polarboy.  You divide the wave up into boys and girls with swappable heads and you can have the whole team in a snap.  I would go: Chamber/White Queen with a Synch head; Jubilee/Penance with an M head; Husk/Skin with optional torn torsos for Husk; and a BAF of either Mondo or Banshee.  That way each set has some kind of fun, toyetic feature and you can get the whole team pretty quickly.

Count me down for a wave that looks anything like this.  Or just a Chamber/Husk combo.  I can make the rest from there.

I think we could get away with a common collar.

I think everyone would be so shocked and grateful we got them that a closed collar would be fine. Someone here made amazing ones a while back and I don’t even remember seeing a collar.

I feeI like you're making a mountain of a mole hill with their necklines. Aside from Mondo and Skin, they're all zipped up to their necks. To call those V-Necks is more than a stretch. They could easily be a red peg with a yellow collar around the neck, which would more or less completely cover said peg. Even if they didn't have a collar piece, minimate necks are barely visible, they could probably just get away with yellow or red neck pegs (just as new mutants and strike force got away with yellow pegs for their multi-racial head swaps)

I can't see where the basic Gen X Uniform's neckline is anywhere near low enough that it would need to be shown on the torso block.

BUT... assuming skin color WAS a huge issue, for the sake of argument, I still think Husk and Jubilee would be entirely swappable. Frankly Synch and Chamber could still get away with it too, because Chamber's neck is 100% covered anyway, so it wouldn't matter if Synch's skin color showed on the neck because... it would theoretically have an energy blast covering it.

As I said several posts ago, I agree in that I don't think Skin would be a good body swap candidate anyway, so nothing is stopping him from having spare parts. As I also mentioned several posts ago, any spare parts Chamber needed would and could still fit OVER the basic body that came with Synch (same as Jubilee's would fit over the other girls) so no huge issue there either. Whether she was a single figure or a shared body, I agree that Husk's power would be better served with an extra torso and limbs, so I more or less see her in the same situation as Wolfsbane was in the New Mutants set... she'd essentially be a second minimate at the point you did her powers justice.

Am I saying we could get the whole team out of 2 minimates? No. But there is still some room for a couple swappable options to parse down the overall figure total. I concede that all the pieces and crap required might be a bit much to squeeze into a four pack... I think it *could* be spread around a wave of 2 packs. But I think we all know at the end of the day neither of those things is likely to happen either way, and this is really just fun theorycrafting and speculation for fun and speculations sake. We're all aware Gen X is more than a long shot.

As  final thought, I disagree on Chamber. I prefer him in the red uniform with a black leather (more or less just like the second custom on the previous page) BUT that's what makes opinions opinions. I generally prefer costumes and uniforms over plainclothes on every character. *Shrug*

Well, Chamber - being the most likely candidate to get a Minimate - I'd much sooner take him in his black leather look as then he isn't alone. If we never get any other Generation X members, he wouldn't look out of place (and he did wear the leather much more than the actual uniform, and it applies to his post-Generation X appearances too).

If we did get other Generation X'ers later, you have the option to get two Synch's to give Chamber that uniform

But i honestly think Chamber is the only one we'll get. Maybe as a TRU exclusive at that. Chamber and Pixie two-pack seems like a really obvious TRU exclusive (and super-annoying to get two characters and no other members of their respective teams)

I feel like I want to say M & Husk feel just as likely, if not more likely than Chamber to me... BUT... I admit my X-Men reading is about 3 to 5 years behind the curve. I'm currently reading back issues slowly via Marvel Unlimited, so I'm only caught up through about circa 2013.

Circa 2013, Husk and M were being more prominently featured than Chamber... Chamber is kind-of still in limbo in my current reading... but that could all have changed in last 5 years for all I know. That's the disadvantage of reading back issues behind the curve, my perception of present day isn't running on current software.

This topic makes me so sad. I desperately want that early Gen X line-up... (Mondo and Penance included), but I think they're a looooooong way off, *if* they ever com at all.

Same. I think the only way e would ever get them would be in a 25th anniversary 4 pack from an exclusive retailer like Luke or BBTS.

The lower body, hair, vest, and gun are from the new Punisher. The torso and arms are black parts I had around, basically anything would do since the vest covers everything. The holster and pistol are from Bloodshot, though any black holster would do. The gloves are from comic Age of Ultron Nick Fury and the head is Traveler Rick Grimes (just to change things up a bit).

It probably wouldn't look bad with a black head and the skull mask either.
